The Trinity River Arts Center

Fun place to go see a play… the seating was nice and there were refreshments being served in the lobby beforehand, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would love to come back for another production. Be warned though, the show was a bit rated R for our 12 year old, which isn’t a problem but I would make sure the shows are age appropriate.

I went to the Trinity River Arts Center to see the musical Hair for the 40 year anniversary of the show. I was kind of surprised I could pick up tickets the day of the show in the late afternoon, but it was packed and they even brought out extra seats. It seems to be a popular place.
It’s located in a fairly nice strip mall near the medical center. After one of my experiences in Richardson I wasn’t sure what to expect. The theatre itself was quite nice. Inside was the window to pick up your tickets and they were serving snacks and refreshments. Once I got my tickets I got in the waiting line that went through a small gallery. Nice touch. Great paintings. The mother daughter pair behind me was commenting on several of them and I would of liked to take some home myself, but the $ 700 price tag was enough to scare us off.
Turned out it was a good idea to get in line. Season ticket holders get to reserve seats and a good portion of the theatre was marked reserved. If you plan to go it might pay off to call and ask what an off night is and try to go then. The ticket window opens 45 minutes before the show and seating starts 20 minutes before. It would pay to get there at least 30 minutes ahead of time. The place is small enough that there really isn’t a bad seat, but I’d try to avoid being in the seats at the far ends. The chairs were comfortable and lots of leg room.
As for the show, it was really good. Reading the program there seemed to be several first time actors and new graduates. Some of the songs weren’t quite as strong as I’d expect. I’m not sure if that’s typical of their shows or not. The rest was very creative. I’ll definitely be back for some of their other shows this season.
