The Great Outdoors Sub Shop

The number twelve is delicious! The suggestion given by the cashier today helped me make my decision– I had not been there is over 15 years or so. The menu can be overwhelming if you have never been there.

Service is a bit spotty and nonchalant, but the sandwiches are exceptional, as sub sandwiches go. Far better than their competitors, even my wife enjoyed hers, and she HATES sandwiches. She had the meatball sub, but my favorite is the outdoorsman. They put so much meat on there that even at eight inches, it fills you up better than someone else’s twelve inch.

Good sandwiches, fresh ingredients and you can customize the order. I think the sizes have gone down over the years, but still a good value. Cheap drink refill is nice if you keep your cup.
Pretty busy on double punch Tuesday’s if you hit the rush.

#13 double meat is still my favorite! Been coming here since I can remember and it hasn’t changed. Still perfect!

Decent enough sandwich but not anything I couldn’t have made at home. Overpriced with nothing special about it to distinguish from any other place. Staff was very unfriendly, as if our business was a bother to them.

Very good and fresh. Like subway except with fresh deli cuts of cheese and meat. Love the bread too. I only put 3 stars because for some reason, even if you’re the easiest customer, they are usually always rude. Like you’re seriously bothering them or something. I’d say most every visit

Setup:
décor is definitely original. Keeps it looking like a well established mom ‘n’ pop deli which is super! Gives it the correct ambience of a good sub shop that produces a homemade sandwich away from home with all the fixings. Could use a little more lighting. Staff is nice and welcoming. Definitely more personality than what you would expect from a chain.
Food:
Great. Subs are full, menu is simple but varied. Deli meat and cheese are sliced-​to-​order, which keeps it super fresh and definitely gives it that homey taste. 3 types of bread and brilliant tasting meats and cheese. I went with my go-​to Reuben with «the works» (adds all their suggested toppings) and I was extremely satisfied for my lunch. I like that their combo options also have a drink and potato salad as a choice too (potato salad is tasty too).
Highly recommend this place if you are wanting a sandwich. It’s too good to pass up.
4-​stars because they seemed a little understaffed during peak hours and it took me 15 mins waiting in a line until I could order. (However the one guy who was working was galling ass and made 10 sandwiches in that time. Many props to him!)

Amazing subs. I got the 4ft outdoorsman giant party sub. Not only was it In a shipping box it was delicious and delectable. The staff was nice and prompt. And my order was completed at the time discussed this is seriously too much sammich.

I’m not as sold on it as a lot of people are, but it’s still a dang good sandwich, I just have others I like better.

I’m actually really surprised at the «people are really friendly» reviews. I’ve been here many, many times, and I’d say they are friendly 1 out of 5 visits. They usually seem as if you are putting them out and they are irritated if you have questions or want to make substitutions.
That said, I go back because it’s one of the few healthy places in the area. The salads are ok, but not amazing. I wish they had spinach or something other than shredded iceberg lettuce. They are also overpriced given that I get one meat, no cheese, and only red wine as a dressing for $ 7.75. My fiancé likes the Invention a lot.

My favorite deli chain around. Almost everything on the menu is good. Ask for it heated to change things up. They have fresh toppings and breads, great desserts and shakes. Nice staff and newspapers to read while you eat. My only complaint is it’s around $ 10 sometimes when all is said and done but it IS possible to eat on the cheap here, I just can’t help but indulge on the deliciousness.

I really enjoy The Great Outdoors. The staff is always very friendly, they are quick, and the sandwiches are great. Very customizable, but there’s a ton of options already on the menu. Great Outdoors is perhaps my favorite sub shop, and there’s a lot out there.

I used to live close to this subway shop and I miss frequenting it at least once a week, the people are friendly and the service is always great. It’s down right old fashioned in a very good way and quite a positive change from the fast stuff down the road on Beltline or Midway Road (10 x better than Subway). This is THE subway shop, please go if you have a chance!

This place is great and close to my home, it is a bit pricey for a sandwich but it worth it. They make everything right in front of you, I come here for the potato salad which is the best I have tasted.
