Steak ‘n Shake

The shakes may have real ice cream, but the fake flavors make them nasty tasting. So disappointing.

I always bring my kids here for a special treat. They order themselves and the servers always treat them and I nicely.

I felt like I was in the Pixar film Finding Nemo no lie, my server was the human embodiment of that blue fish Dory, memory span shorter than her time in high school. This lame excuse for a waiter kept muttering «I only make $ 2.13 an hour» like you bet that’s what you’re going to make because you ain’t getting no tip. Like what, you expect me to take pity on you because you use your brain less than a fat girl uses a treadmill smh. The food spanked my taste buds like always but my waiter ruined the experience like hipsters ruined facial hair.

Steak n Shake rocks the great Midwest from Illinois all the way down to Dallas. Lots of haters moaning about their order getting messed up at 4am as if it’s safe to write Unilocal reviews while under the influence!
Hands down, SnS has the best kid’s menu and meals of any place I know. Grilled cheese with fries for $ 2.29!?? From 2−5pm every day is Milk Shake Happy Hour — forty flavors of amazing milk shakes for $ 1.49? Where else can your kids get a sandwich, fries and a milk shake for under $ 4?
Even better, they have an App that actually works. After like two or three visits, I earned a $ 5 credit. Factor in the Crazy Claw machines, the #1 Zagat rated milk shake and the great service offered up by ISAAC, the best server in the biz and you get a four star family experience.
Caveat: If you have an ounce of snobbery in you, you’ll certainly scoff at the notion of being caught dead here while comparing it to McDonalds. An unfair comparison, but one you’ll surely make. Keep traveling down the road. There’s an expensive, overrated French place on the left.

Love the happy hour! Can get a large ice tea for 50 cents. I really like the grill cheese steak burger. And a side of cheese with my fries. Staff has been very Friendly in the drive thur.

Just moved into the neighborhood and did a late night burger run here. Bad choice! We were given our shakes then they asked us to pull up to wait for our food. A few minutes later we get our burgers and quickly noticed that our fries order was wrong so we went in and they fixed that. We should’ve checked out burger orders though because once we got home we realized that our burger order was wrong too. Nothing worse than paying extra for a particular burger and being given something different. Food was not that great because by the time we got the fries order fixed the burgers had gotten cold and the shakes had melted. Not going back there!

Arrived at 5am.
The chef came out and tossed a burger menu on a booth. I took a seat.
Two other customers in the restaurant.
I sat at the booth for 15 minutes, and never received a verbal greeting or even a glass of water from my server.
I was really hungry for breakfast, but clearly saw this was not the place for me.
I went down the road a few blocks to Café Brazil and got an amazing breakfast with terrific service.

I wish I could give negative stars. Rude, slow and horrible food. And I’m a steak and shake fan.

WHAT A HUGE IMPROVEMENT ! We have been going to this Steak N Shake location for roughly 6 years. The service has always been painfully slow but we would return on occasions because we do like the food. Last night we had the best service all the around. Lizzie was on top of everything. She has only worked in that location for 4 days but one would never know it. She smiled, was informative, and completely on track. I have to assume there have been some changes throughout the store as the food come out warm and in a timely manner which has been a huge issue in the past. Thank you to Marlene for making the appropriate change to make this store more successful as well as one I would return to more often.

I love Steak n Shake. By now I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and love them all. Our favorite so far is the Wisconsin Buttery Burger, which we exchange the American Cheese for Swiss plus ask for the Butter Garlic Bread, Mmmmmm!
The Shakes are amazing, though I try to avoid the extra carbs.
I tried the hot dogs and loved them also but they should give you two instead of one for the same price.
The Spicy Chicken Sandwich was very good but dry as Hell.
The only complain we have is that they could do better on the cleaning side.

I would leave a zero if I could. There’s one server for the whole restaurant. It’s 3am and I’ve been waiting for 45 min. No drinks or food. Very disappointed.

Tried this one close to my house just because I was pregnant and wanted some fast food cheese fries. I went through the drive through and though the service was not bad, my food was. My fries were hot but tasted weird as well as my ranch and cheese. I dont think I will be back.

Rude staff, bad service, slow wait times. And oh, a dead nat in my water!!! We left immediately and won’t be back!

Worst service ever!!! The waiter never gave us another refill because he was too busy talking to his other coworkers, The burgers are so greasy, they add to much ketchup, mustered, ect… to much of everything that my burger was falling apart my bun was so wet because of the grease. I will never come again no wonder is so empty here.

One star, and that’s only because the milkshake save them. I will attach a picture of the «burger» here. We went in the drive through the girl was not personable and she had a very unfriendly tone. We were hesitant to make changes to the order before it was finalized because she just seemed like she wasn’t having it. So we get to the window, and the wait time wasn’t too bad. We get to the window and two girls are working on the order and they start asking us what we ordered. So we get home and we realized that they forgot one drink. Then we take out the food and it was disappointment all over in my part. The presentation is so bad I didn’t finish my burger. I’m mostly upset because I rarely eat junk, and the one time I do I feel it was soooooo not worth it.

Service was okay. Took about 10mins for the waiter to even get our drink order. We got our drinks and our food and we chose to get milkshakes as well.
Took about 15 mins to get our shakes and MINE HAD A HAIR IN IT. Right on top of the whipped cream. That is completely unacceptable and just flat out disgusting. Not to mention when I drew attention to the fact that there was a hair in my shake, the waitress was very rude about it. But went and made me a new one.
The restaurant was fairly dirty as well. Will definitely not be coming back to this one EVER again.

Over 30 minutes had passed. We finally had menus only because my girlfriend got up and retrieved them from a server. Our 9 person table had 3 menus because that’s all the server had on her at the time and she didn’t get any more for us. People who sat down after us were getting water, menus, orders taken, food served, etc. (you know. like, normal «service» type stuff, as opposed to just being ignored). We drew the line when a large table (that came in WAY after us) suddenly was being served food. This meant that within minutes of them sitting down, they were served water and menus and had their orders taken, while we were sitting there like chumps, thinking we were waiting our turn. This happened so quickly that we never even saw them get service. When we saw them being served food, we all stormed out. Seriously, f**k this place. I came here almost a year ago and the service was so bad that I made a Unilocal account and wrote my first review. Over 10 months later, they are still just as sh! tty as the first time I came.
Seriously, this isn’t acceptable. I know service takes a hit when you go that late, but there are tons of places we go to post-​bar hours and none of them are this bad. We left and went to Whataburger and got better service there. IT’S FAST FOOD. How is it possible to get better service at a fast food place than a restaurant with actual servers??? Workers at Whataburger actually brought us food and came back around to bring condiments and ask if we needed more help.

Service is terrible, especially at night. They took away the amazing 3-​D Grilled Cheese burger:(. There shakes are always good though. I love the caramel pretzel.

They have the worst service let me tell you! No matter if you go inside or through the drive-​thru you will get ignored for at least 5−15minutes. The food is good on certain occasions. I usually get a cheese burger and parmesan herb fries. The last time I went, a few weeks ago, the fries were hard and the burger was very cold. I told the guy at the drive thru and he apologized and said he would fix it. 60 seconds later he came back with a microwaved burger and the same cold fries. I won’t be back to this location!

Absolutely terrible service. Blonde waitress was on her phone sitting near the cashiers area the entire time and we had to wait 30 minutes just to get water. We were here last night too… but then we walked out after not even getting waters.
Update: still haven’t gotten our waters. We are walking out again.
