SMU Learning Enhancment Center

Overall LEC is great and the staff there are friendly, helpful, etc. My review is specifically about the Disability Accommodations & Success Strategies department. My issue with DASS is the amount of documentation they require to be willing to help you.
I have ADD. I have not been tested for it because based on my symptoms/​issues it’s very obvious I have it, and three doctors have said they are 100% sure I have it (no Dr. is going to give you Adderall if they’re not convinced you have it). Having ADD, being able to take tests in a distraction free zone (which is one of the things DASS offers) would be great.
But, the amount of documentation they want, makes it even pointless to try and get help from them. This is what they want for ADD/​ADHD:
There’s no way my Psychiatrist or Family Doctor is able to write up a report with everything they are asking for. I know both would if they could, but I’m not their only patient and supplying them with everything they want would take hours to write up. On top of that I would have to take the specific tests they want, even though its clear I have ADD.
I find it ridiculous when really all they would need is a note from my Dr. confirming my condition and a short history on it. With all the guidelines they have, it seems like they’re short-​staffed and are using them to limit the number of students they help.
The reason I gave 3 stars is because LEC is great and deserves a ⁵⁄₅ rating, but I would give DASS ¹⁄₅ rating.

Love this place, it has help me past some serious test my time here at SMU. plus i work here so good money…
