It’s great to see a quality Blues venue located so close to Dallas Blues historical sites! Read more — and see pix — about Pearl @ Commerce and the Dallas Blues scene here:

Pearl surprised me. I thought it was going to be a dive. Far from it. Not that I can’t appreciate a good dive! But very clean and nicely laid out with some cool art on the walls. Cover charges are very reasonable and so are the drink prices. Service was excellent and they have some excellent music here. I’ll be going more often. I hear some nights can be pretty crowded. Last night Holland K Smith was playing. Nice blues, even got to dance! My husband hates it when I try to lead though. Don’t let the club next door scare you off — more great people watching! lol

Pearl with a sultry luster. Whenever you want to enjoy live music, but are in the mood for something a bit more sophisticated, Pearl is your place. Saturday night I heard the soulful howls of a guitar that paired perfectly with the singer’s heart tugging croon. The location is right next to one of those clubs were the girls dress with clothes that are way too tight and guys with clothes that are way too loose. Don’t fret, the clientele at Pearl is night and day. People here know how to dress and they tend to be older(40s), but they aren’t missing a step. Impromptu dancing erupts from time to time. The bartenders are great, and quick. They remember what you order and make sure to check up on you. Drinks are cheap too, about $ 6.50 for mixed drinks. Seating is first come first serve so get there early and grab some popcorn. The blues never sounded so good.

Sultry singing voices being sung by a buxom lounge singer echo throughout this interesting jazz joint. Obscurely located downtown on Commerce street, some may not even know it exists, which can be a good and bad thing. I want to Unilocal about it to spread the word, however the hidden little gem is a testament to the cool, jazzy regulars. The high ceilings and exposed brick wall make for a modern, urban and lofty ambiance, which is fitting considering its downtown location. You become immersed in the scene as you scan the room and realize they are people from all walks of life that all have one thing in common: a love for live music. The interior of the space definitely speaks to the mood the bar creates. Happy Hour everyday from 4 — 8 is not a bad gig either. You can sip on your beer while you enjoy some live tunes. Their bartender was very friendly and attentive, which is good, because now I am for sure returning after Megan M. is saying there is $ 1 Pearl Beer. How did I miss that?!

Great music, friendly bartender, great booze selection. This is my kind of place. I bellied up to the bar with a co-worker and listed to bluegrass for a while. Mandolin was amazing! Check out the gallery upstairs after a drink or two — you’ll enjoy! Free parking around the corner.

All that Jazz! I’d driven by the Pearly several times and always said, «I gotta try that place. It says live music each night.» So on a Tuesday night, I ventured out to investigate. First off, when they say live music, what you expect is not what you get. At the entrance, there is a large orchestra of 20+ Jazz musicians.(this is not an exageration.) The pub is small so conversations are drown out by the orchestra.(A great place to take a date if you’re struggling to find things to say to each other) As impressive as the music, the drinks. Walking in with the Jazz playing, I felt like I was in a 30’s tavern in Chicago. So much so, I had to order a martini shaken not stirred. Not a lot of draft beers here but a good assortment of spirits and the prices are great! Although the Pearl doesn’t serve food, the bartender has a list of restaurants that deliver in the area and will even call the order in for you.

I love this joint. Great staff and thay actually take care of you. Being from Atlanta, I miss the Blues bars everywhere. This isn’t Blue Cat Blues in ATL but it’s as close as you can get without being a seedy part of town.

I have been here a few times & enjoyed it each time. The cover varies depending on the performing musician. The music ranges from blues to jazz to bluegrass to folk. Know that this place is VERY small. I like sitting at the small tables that line the wall. There’s a second floor with a pool table, where you can still hear the music & watch the performers via a tiny television. It would be nice if you could view them from the second floor. There is a private glass enclosed room on the second floor as well, which is not for just anyone wishing to sit there. The bartenders/servers have all been very nice :) …It’s been far too long since I’ve been here.

Super friendly bartenders. Happy hour that goes til 8. Great live music. Billiards and an art gallery upstairs. Delivery from Campisi’s, Deep Sushi, Divino’s, and more. Do you need any other reasons to check it out? This place is so chill it’s ridiculous. It’s the kind of spot you wish was a block away from where you live so that you could swing by and grab a drink on your way home. At least during happy hour, there are all types — from an businessman on a laptop(free wifi), to an elderly couple in the corner soaking in the music, to a nurse(in scrubs) stopping in for a drink on her way home. Very casual, not pretentious, and not a place where you need to dress to the nines. Maybe later at night it’s different, but I doubt it. I’d suggest going early(maybe at the tail end of happy hour) if there’s a good evening act. You can grab a drink at happy hour prices, order some delivery, and hang out until the evening gig starts playing. That way, you avoid the $ 15 cover. You can thank me later.

I tried a new beer here and chatted with a friend while an acoustic set played — nice ambiance. Secluded loft area for quieter conversations. Hardwood floors, oldtimers and low key cute couples rounded out a «non-Dallas» experience. It’s not fu fu. It’s crispy.

Ahhh… Pearl. I adore this place. They have great Jazz, good drinks, and free popcorn! I’ve been to Pearl for happy hour and have been to shake my booty to some great music. Every time I come here, it’s always a good time. The seating is perfect to just sit back and enjoy the music. They also have a cute windowed room that overlooks the bar area for private parties. I’ve always wanted to rent that out for a gathering, but haven’t quite done so yet. But I have to say, my favorite times of being there is just after work. It has a quite, local feel. I’m always impressed on their great drink specials for happy hour. And the bartenders are fantastic and fun with conversation. If you sit there long enough, you can see the incoming band set up and maybe catch a song or two before you decide to head home.

I discovered Tuesday night Jazz at the Pearl! I love this place because it has such an amazing atmosphere. It’s not a grungy, smoke-filled bar in Downtown Dallas. I really felt like I had stepped into a place in Austin or even New York! There was a 14-pc. Jazz band there last night and from what I hear, they are there every Tuesday. You have got to check it out! NICEPLACE!

When you just need to unwind and you want a chill place to enjoy good music and good drinks, visit Pearl. This was the first black hospital in Dallas and looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but inside it’s spacey… a VIP room where you can view the stage, a game room upstairs(pool tables) and lots of cool art on the wall. Pearl also has free Wi-Fi. I went to Pearl on a Wednesday — not too crowded, but mainly people came in to get a drink, chat with the bartender, visit with friends and then left. You can even order food from nearby restaurants that deliver to Pearl. Tuesdays and Saturdays are great days to visit too. This is definately a place to go if you like blues and jazz, a great atmosphere, and good drinks!

When you can get Pearl beer in a can and you’re at a bar called the Pearl, you know you’ve hit the sweet spot. This little swank bar is fun and hip without a pretentious air that floats around like someones exhaled cigarette smoke. I went here a while back to see our fellow Unilocaler Chris E.‘s band play, Rebel Alliance, and it was a blast. To your ears mostly, but that’s a good thing. What can you expect from a huge big band with lots and lots of members? I’m interested in checking our what other bands they have play too, but on Tuesdays, RA is definitely worth checking out. The Pearl has two floors and an extra room off of the staircase that is VIP where you can see everyone on the bottom floor perfectly. It’s super awesome. And the bartender was very gracious in letting us take it over. Upstairs you’ll find some pool tables and a lot of empty space, but the band is so loud you can still enjoy them while you are up there. All in all, a great little bar that is kind of big and a great place to listen to live music.

The bar: Nice location, standard bar, nice happy hour. Rebel Alliance live music: BADASS! I stopped in on St. Patty’s day and the Pearl was packed out — I think Rebel has outgrown the space. As long as they still play on Tuesday nights, I highly recommend you enjoy a drink and some freakin’ amazing music.

Pearl at Commerce is a great little bar in Downtown. I stopped by tonight to watch Rebel Alliance play. It was GREAT! Great music combined with the $ 1 Pearl Lite Beer(local brewery) made the night a great one! The bar is fully stocked and the bartenders were more than cool. The crowd that was there tonight was very laid back. Much different than the college bar atmosphere that I just came from. One thing I have to point out, the awesome backdrop of Commerce and Pearl Streets behind the band. The cars and busses driving by just seemed to add to the whole atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Are you dating someone who is easy on the eyes but doesn’t have much going on between the ears? Have you wanted to ask someone out, but are afraid you’ll have nothing to say to them? Take them to see Rebel Alliance on Tuesday nights at the Pearl! You can gaze into your hottie’s eyes, listen to fantastic music, throw back a couple of cocktails, and you won’t have to(or even be able to) talk to each other. Kidding aside, this is a great way to spend a Tuesday, but definitely not conversation-friendly background music. This is in your face, blow you away, kick ass jazz. The Pearl is a really neat space to hear some great music. I think I’d like hanging out here even without the great tunes. It’s an older building with high ceilings and all of the old-building details that make a space seem cool. I like the open feeling of the first(main) floor. We mostly hung out in the VIP room, but I probably wouldn’t do that again. It felt a little fishbowl-y and claustrophobic to me. I like mingling and people-watching up close, not from an elevated platform. Also, something about«VIP» is a bit icky to me, even in a venue as cool as the Pearl. A couple of tips for your visit: 1. Bring some change for the meters or cash for parking. Their website advertises free meters behind the club after 6pm. Those meters are few. The ones out front are not free until later. My silly changeless/cashless self had to borrow change from Megan M. and her husband so I didn’t get a ticket. 2. Eat before you go. The Pearl doesn’t have a kitchen. Overall I had a great time with my fellow Unilocalers. The Widmer Hefeweizen was delicious, the music was incredible, and you can’t beat the company. I definitely recomment seeing this band on Tuesday nights. I know I will be back!

So I went last night to Pearl to see Chris E’s big band blow the roof off Pearl. I could hear them playing before I even walked in the door and they were badass! You go Chris E! Pearl has a nice set up. Stage up front, tables situated against the wall, a long bar down one wall, and even two separate areas upstairs. Happy Hour was $ 3 wells until 8pm and the Tuesday special was Pearl Light beer for $ 1. On Wednesday they have $ 3 martinis, so that might also be a good night to go. I would also like to add that for my $ 3 drink, the bartender was not skerred of a little rum — that bad boy was strong! The bands they book seem to lean toward blues and jazz and along with the ambiance the place has a kind of underground swank chill vibe. They don’t serve food but according to their website you can order and have food delivered from quite a few different area restaurants. I suggest just drinking your dinner though, especially with these affordable prices! The Unilocalers decided to take over the room on the second floor. This room has tables, an oversized leather ottoman, a sink, and even its own bathroom. The entire front of the room is glass so that you can see the entire bar from your perch. It said reserved on the door, but if no one has it reserved then apparently they do not mind if you use it so go on up there and be all VIP baby! Make it RAIN! hehe It was fun hanging out with the Unilocal peeps and FINALLY got to meet the elusive«Johnny Depp»! FUN!

Pearl is a great little bar with a cool lounge vibe. We converged on a Tuesday night to support Chris E. and his band Rebel Alliance, a 17-piece big band on jazzy crack. We had a fabulous time drinking $ 1 Pearl beer and hanging out in the glass enclosed VIP room — complete with its own toilet! — that we claimed as our own for the evening. I think it takes a certain kind of space to hold the sound of 17 instruments wailing in sync and Pearl was a great venue. The high ceilings carried the sound up and around you, enveloping you in the thump of the music. It’s certainly something to behold! The best part about Pearl is that you can hear the music throughout the entire space, even though it essentially has 3 floors. The 2nd floor is the VIP room and above that is another area with 2 pool tables. Each space has it’s own cushy feel and allows for overflow of people from the main floor bar, which also has booths and tables. I definitely look forward to future visits to Pearl, both to see Rebel Alliance and other jazzy acts.

I dug the laid-back vibe. It was pretty quiet for a Thursday night, but the live music was enjoyable(and not overly loud) and the drinks and service were great. I think our waitress was Jodi, but I was a little drunk, so my apologies if I got it wrong. I started off with the Oh Pearl, which was citrusy, and switched over to the White Pearl, which was effing delicious. I loved that their martinis were not frou-frou sweet girl-tinis. I just wish they had their drink menu online so I could remember what was in my tasty libations.
