While we were excited for all the Paleo options at Mudhen(oh, and the cocktails are to die for), hunger got the best of us and all three of us got their burger, medium rare, complete with bacon and their olive oil friend egg. BLOWN. AWAY. Our server/bartender Hana was a close second. Request her, you will NOT be disappointed. Bravo, Mr. Wynne on that hire.

Conveniently located next to the Farmers Market, you can embark on a taste bud excursion at Mudhen Meat and Greens. We knew this place would be good after we casually walked in and found Southern Art hot sauce on ALLTHETABLES! The restaurant is sprawling with ample seating indoors and out. Not interested in a table? Pull up a chair at the bar and enjoy a craft beer and food while engaging in some good ol’ bar banter. The food here is exceptional. The menu includes a ton of veggies and plenty of land animals to eat. I had the Smoked Arctic Char Rueben and it was rather delicious. I liked the fact that it was an open faced sandwich with homemade thousand island. Ton of flavor. For my GF she had the Root Vegetable«angel hair» which also was packed full of flavor. The service was great but I will mention this place is new and we went on their«busiest day yet». Some things need to be worked out but nothing took away from our first experience.

First visit honestly didn’t have me wanting to rush back. The best thing we had were the kale chips — lightly crisp but basked in some sort of wonderful flavoring that also gave it weight. I think it’s like a higher priced HG Supply, which I already think is a bit expensive, but maybe I’m out of touch with how much healthy food costs. The menu seemed a bit limited even though they had 4 – 5 sandwiches and entrees, and a build your own bowl. The build your own bowl was a bit confusing because you basically pick a protein and then add vegetables or carbs a la carte…$ 4 per vegetable and $ 8 per protein… I just had a hard time envisioning what I was getting — was it just one vegetable and protein and that’s it? No sauces or anything else? I think they would be better to move to pre-made bowls to choose from where you simply add the protein, like HG Supply. I also think they would benefit by having more affordable priced lunches versus one menu for lunch and dinner. We ordered the arctic char Reuben(smoked and served cold, open faced on rye with homemade sauerkraut) and their bison sandwich. Both were good but neither really amazing– friend thought the bison was a bit gamy. The space itself was very cool(huge) and the service was fine. The space was empty when we got there for lunch but filled up some as we left — apparently they haven’t done any advertising. Bonus for selling homemade jams, pickles and jerky.

Great new find down by the Farmers Market! Very innovative concept at a price point you dont usually find for such high quality food. They have a Build Your Own Bowl concept that I couldn’t resist. One of the choices was Arctic Char, a favorite of mine that you don’t find on many menus. My husband had the Branzini but my friend’s enchilada won my taste buds over, and I don’t care that much for Mexican food. We were a large group so I was able to taste a variety of dishes and appetizers and let’s not forget the yummy desserts! There are 2 huge patio areas so this will be a great place to gather when the weather improves. Great energy and good food.

I was lucky enough to go to this new restaurant the first week they were serving. We tried numerous items on the menu and they were all extremely tasty, and yet I left feeling good. The Mudhen does an awesome job of providing great tasting items that happen to be good for you. If you can’t decide what to try, I highly recommend the Loco Moco or Flat Iron Steak and be sure to order the Carrot cake, it’s the best I’ve ever had!

This place is simply amazing. Fresh, clean and delicious. We tried the collard spring rolls and the to die for pulled pork plantains(like nachos) for apps. I love the bowl idea so you can pick and choose and create your own meal. I ordered the 6oz rotisserie chicken, fingerling potatoes and butternut squash, my bowl was def. empty. Carrot cake and the cookies and cream desserts were both on point, def. not too sweet. It was just a hint of sweet for after a perfect meal! The cutest thing was when my friend got coffee… They brought out a small sand timer thingy and his coffee in a French press and said it would be ready in a minute and half.

I rarely like to dine at the same places over again but this is definitely making it into my regular rotation. Healthy food that tastes delicious? Definite yes! I thought that the restaurant would be located inside the farmers market, but it is an actual standalone restaurant with plenty of space! A huge board listing all sorts of veggies frames both ends of the room, with check marks next to those veggies which are being offered that day — availability depends on what’s available at the farmers market. Love that this will give variety, surprise, but most of all, freshness! To start, we ordered the daily board, which today, came with deviled eggs, some amazing bacon that should be packaged up for«bacon jerky treats», pickled veggies and a feta cheese spread with wheat crisps, which looked like actual bread that was sliced extremely thin(whoa, cool). Two thumbs up for the plating and variety, but nothing off the charts regarding taste. For entrees, my fiancé ordered the loco moco and I ordered a build-your-own bowl consisting of bison beef meatloaf, sweet potato mash and collard greens. Both the loco moco and the meatloaf were amazing«healthy» versions of the original«comfort» foods. The flavor was still full, but left our bellies not to bloated. My meatloaf and sweet potato hash was so good, I had to devour it all. Only downside to my meal is that my plate incorrectly came out with brussel sprouts(instead of collard greens) and the firmness of the brussel sprouts did not go with the dish(also, the flavoring on the sprouts wasn’t anything amazing — def a skip in my book). Can’t wait to be back cause I’m eyeing that carrot cake for next time!
