First thing we ordered was the mint tea; it was very good. It has whole stems of mint and I believe it was sweetened with honey. It really was really good tea, I love trying different teas but this is by far the best tea I’ve tasted. As for the food, it was amazing. The appetizer platter we got was very good and very well balanced. It had the lamb sausage, the morrocan beef cigars, the egg plant dish and what I believe was the potato. All very good. The bread and side of green olives was yummy too. Me not being a fan of green olives, this really changed my opinion of them. The meal was really good. I ordered the chicken sharmoula which was chicken on toasted bread with the tomato mix on top. My boyfriend got the tantine prepared chicken which was two chcken legs topped with thinly sliced and fried potatoes(fancy way of describing fries) they were really crispy and the sauce was a pickled lemon sauce. It was superb. Our service was amazing. She was extreamly nice. Service was great. Five stars across because I don’t see anything to deduct for. Great service, great food, great price; the interior was really nice too. Really nice place to have a nice dinner and conversation. Atmosphere was great. Go try it for yourself. It honestly is very nice all around. I do recommend going here. The food, price, service, atmosphere is perfect.

Booooooo! Another one bites the dust. DRAT! Apparently, they are re-opening in Fort Worth. Hopefully, they will remain BYOB.

Wow – I don’t know of any other place like this in Dallas! This restaurant is super cozy and inviting(once you get inside). I absolutely loved the décor and the idea of eating in a secluded booth with privacy curtains! Our waitress(might have been an owner?) was ridiculously nice and accomodating, and so was everyone else we interacted with from the restaurant. We started with the appetizer platter. I expected to like the cigars the most because I saw so many raves about them but my favorite by far was actually the eggplant!!! Oh man, I have to learn how to make that! My second favorite was the cigar, but it didn’t blow me away or anything. The bread is awesome as well – and please do listen to everyone who says get the mint tea! It’s so tasty! My cousin and I split the lamb tagine… and my husband got the lamb tagine, haha. First of all, the prunes that came with it are the most incredible prunes in existence. The couscous was fantastic. The lamb was not what I was expecting, but it was pretty good as well. Not really ideal for sharing though(it was a leg of lamb I think, so we were cutting pieces off the bone). I think I want to try the lemon chicken one next time. My 5 stars are because to me this place doesn’t really have any competition that I know of; the food wasn’t all 5 star, but everything was really good and we loved the experience. Dr. S is now set on getting a tagine. We were totally stuffed and didn’t have any dessert but I can guarantee you we’ll be back soon – with some BYOB goodies in tow!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this place is tasty. Friend wanted to impress us with his new found culture and suggested we all eat here for a bit of a change. And damn, I’m glad he did. This place is very different in a gooooood way. BYOB, so we brought two bottles of wine. Meal begins with bread and olives. WOW, these olives are tasty. I usually don’t eat that much bread, but I found myself eating 4 pieces because I wanted to eat these olives. YUM. I got the marguez. Lamb sausage sandwich basically. Came with a salad with some type of house dressing that tasted similar to caesar. DIZZAM. The sandwich was good. Salad was good. Everything here was good. (imma kind of work backwards) For appetizers, we got beef cigars, which were scrumdittility umptious, and an eggplant dish(the only appetizer with eggplant.) It was sort of a lasagna, and it was darned heavenly. Reading over this review in my mind, it’s kinda useless. So just go try this place. Totally different from the norm and I promise you won’t regret it. David the Gnome didn’t. He loved the olives, too.

Went for lunch. Liked it very much. Chicken sandwich(sorry I forget the exact menu name) on baguette. Baguette warm, crispy on outside. Chicken moist and seasoned well. LOT of diced tomatoes and maybe diced onions, can’t recall. Best part is, you can opt for a house salad instead of fries, and it was a huge salad, with lots(more) diced tomatoes, feta cheese, and a vinegarette dressing. I mean it was a huge plate, for $ 6.95. A deal. The mint tea is a small-water-glass sized portion for $ 1.49. HOT. Too hot to pick up the glass initially. Very sweet. Strong amount of mint. Nice, but too sweet for me. Conclusion: Recommended

Suspend your belief that you are in the flat unending plains of North Texas, prairie as far as the wind blows. Imagine instead perching on the Moroccan side of the Strait of Gibralter, Spain furrowed out of the boiling waters a few miles to your north. Your tent buffeted by the sea breezes. Café Marrakesh is your comforting oasis. Ornate lamps anchor the tent-like ceiling of this arabian respite in North Dallas.
Cavernous passageways with curtain-cloaked booths and an upstairs private party room look fun. Curling metal tea-pots adorn many of the tables. Three appetizers we tried: the Moroccan Cigars were tightly wrapped phyllo wrappers with spiced ground beef and a tasty aioli type sauce. Good because they were served quick and hot. Shrimp Sharmoula: we were amused by the«Ocean Garden» shrimp variety listed on the menu-just what the heck is that? Well it’s actually a Mexican shrimp supplier. It was also an incredibly tiny shrimp if you must know. Considering the flavor of the tomato, garlic and lemon sauce, the dish could have been mind-altering with a larger count shrimp variety. Hummus was, well, hummus… tasty with the hot pita and speckled in a pretty fashion with pieces of feta. Main courses were solid if not stellar. The tagine preparation of our Cornish Hen with Lemon, and the Lamb with Prunes resulted in fork tender, aromatic flavors. Moist and sweet with the cinnamon sprinkled along the border of the platters. My couscous with the lamb was a bit dry but the flavor was unusual and good. All in all this is not some kind of 5 star dining experience exactly, but it is a beautiful and authentic meal to be savored with friends. As we neared the bottom of the bottle of our Starry Night Zinfandel(remember it’s BYOB), beguiled by my dining partner’s charms, I peeked through the sliver of window behind us and saw snowflakes swirling out of the North Texas sky, and imagined myself far, far away from home.

I admit, the first time one of my coworkers suggested Moroccan food and Café Marrakesh to me, I was very hesitant. Not knowing a damn thing about Moroccan, I wondered such things like, will we have to sit on the floor? How very ethnocentric of me, and I apologize. Since then I’ve come to love this place. I’ve taken my sister and other friends, and even had my farewell lunch here when I was switching jobs. A whole hearted agreement with everyone who mentioned the mint tea. Try it! It’s awesome. I think maybe once it was brewed a bit strong, but as of my lunch visit today, it was amazing. Looks like they have added some items to the lunch menu, but I fell in love with the Chicken Sharmoula sandwich on my first visit, and the love affair continues.(Seriously, the first time I had it, I didn’t notice till very late in the day that I got some of the sauce on my shirt. I knew it would probably stain, but I couldn’t even be angry. The sandwich was THAT good.) The bread they use is crusty in the best way possible and just oh so good. The roasted onions and tomato relish is refreshing and such a good accompaniment to the sharmoula sauce and chicken. I don’t even LIKE tomatoes but I eat this sandwich just the way it was lovingly prepared. The meal comes with your choice of house salad or french fries and when the waitress asked me which I would like, my pause gave her time to offer to split it ½ and ½. Sweet! I ordered the couscous once, but was not a fan. The mixed veggies were chunky, clunky pieces of carrot and zucchini, the couscous was mushy and my chicken had bones which proved difficult to eat. Even with that said, since the chicken sharmoula was seriously one of the best new things I ate last year, Marraskesh gets great rating. Speed of service has really been improved, my lunch was under an hour today! In the past going to Marrakesh definitely meant an extended lunch. Great tasting food, fantastic and genuinely friendly service make this place into a fabulous dining experience.

The décor was the first thing I noticed which was very different and cozy. There are tables separated with curtains. I checked the reviews of Unilocalers and decided to order the mint tea which was really really good. The mint flavor was strong in a good way. It was very nice — soothing to the throat in the cold weather. Then we were served the bread and picked olives and lemon rinds. The bread was super soft but no salt(which is at times good :-)) We did not order any appetizers though everything on the menu sounded pretty good. I ordered the chicken kebab. The chicken was tender with lots of spices, the salad was fresh but the rice was a disappointment. I was expecting the fragrant basmati rice. My husband ordered the Lamb and Prunes tagine which was presented well in a earthen plate. The lamb was cooked well and the sauce was tangy and sweet. Overall the experience was great. The couple who run the restaurant were very friendly and hospitable. They checked on us after we were served the tea and later after we tasted the entrees.

I fell in love with Marrakesh Café last week. I was meeting a friend for dinner and suggested that we try this place based on Unilocal recommendations. It’s a bit out of the way for us, but so worth it! Thank you, Unilocalers, for steering me here. When we arrived, the front room didn’t look very crowded. Everyone was sitting in the cozy curtained booths in the back. I guess that is the more popular area in which to dine. It is great for a romantic date or catching up with friends. Hooray for BYOB! Our $ 6 bottle of wine saved us a bunch of cash so that we could spend it on awesome food. We ordered the hummus and Moroccan cigars to start. I probably could have stopped there, but we’d already ordered a lamb tagine. That evening, the chef special was lamb tagine with artichokes and preserved lemons. The meat wasn’t huge, but that was a good thing. The flavors were intoxicating and many-layered. I highly recommend trying a tagine. This was my first try at Moroccan food, although I’ve had Lebanese, Persian, and Turkish. We used to come here all the time when it was Hedary’s. The Moroccan flavor is a bit different, and I really liked it! The service was leisurely, as it should be in this type of atmosphere, and our server was helpful. I foresee many return visits!

Wow… good stuff. We had tried Moroccan food in Richmond, VA once and it was terrible. I had a feeling that it was just the place we had visited, so we had always meant to try it again. Thank God for Unilocal, because this time around was completely different. The service was great. We never had to wait for a refill. The courses were well timed. We were always stuffing our faces with one thing or another. Don’t be afraid if you haven’t tried the food before… the tagine that I had was very similar to pot roast, only better. There are plenty of different options for those feeling more adventurous, but those who are picky should find plenty to eat as well.

Authenic. Delicious. Good-portioned. Fair price. Good service. Appealing presentation. Two dishes I recommend are the Beef Cigars(starter) and the Hen Artichoke Tagine(main). I don’t know much about the way meats are cooked in a tagine, but regardless of what kind of meat — it all comes out tender and moist! Ambience is lovely with a very authentic feel. Service was friendly, helpful and timely(though on the Tuesday I went, business was slow). Would be best suited for an intimate and memorable casual date place. There isn’t much actual seating sq footage so large groups isn’t ideal. When arriving, restaurant sign is a bit hard to spot.

I tried this place a while ago after a Unilocaler suggested the place. I decided to get something to go. I ordered the Eggplant appetizer — Zalouk. It tasted pretty close to an Indian egg plant dish I cook. Went well with bread. The Chicken Kabobs came on yellow rice and a salad. The chicken was perfectly moist, tender and spicy. I loved the service even though I had my food to go. The owner was very nice and friendly. I was new to Dallas and was lost while driving to the place. He was on the phone for a couple of minutes acting as my navigator(My Tom Tom was acting crazy). Will eat in next time to experience the service. So great food and excellent service. What else can u ask for

This place continues to impress me. Great food and excellent service. It seems like a simple concept, yet can be difficult to find! Started with the bread, spicy olives, and zaalouk which is an eggplant & tomato chutney or spread. It tastes great with the fresh bread they bring you. We also shared the lamb tagine with lemon, artichoke, and green olives plus shoestring fries on top. This dish was so aromatic and flavorful and the meat fell off the bone. Delicious! Even though we were completely stuffed, we just couldn’t resist to try the bread pudding. It was hot & sweet & oh so worth it! We spent about $ 30+ for all that food! Good deal.

Not my choice, but I loved it. It was chill, décor was not high end but the over all mood worked. The service was excellant, the servers were welcoming and helpful on the food suggestions. The couscous Royal was moist and tender… full of wonderful flavors… It was worth the drive.

Taste(A), Food Presentation(A), Creativity(A), Portion/Value(A-), Service(A+), Atmosphere(A) Marrakesh Café, let me count the ways, I love this restaurant. I work practically next door to this restaurant and it always looks empty at lunch time. I just thought it was some dinky salmon colored stucco building that used to be a taco bell building or something. Boy was I wrong. It is a large restaurant that is very tastefully decorated and has a wonderful group party room upstairs. The food is really tasty and wait service with Rashid was wonderful. They previously had a lunch buffet but because of lack of foot traffic during lunch time they stopped the buffet. I need to go back and try more of their dishes. I had the chicken sharmoula sandwich which is basically a grilled chicken, marinated in yogurt and spice on a baguette, come with a large delicious side of salad with feta or french fries. My co-workers had the lamb and chicken cous-cous. They absolutely loved it too and we want to try more. Rashid says the place is packed at night. When we were there, there was a good number of returning Arab clients so it must be of adequate quality for people familiar with this food. Oh, most importantly, it is BYOB!!! The price for the food was definitely reasonable.

We went for the Mint Tea after having it for the first time at a great Moroccan place in San Francisco in March. Once I saw that Marrakesh also served Mint Tea so close to home, I KNEW we had to head up there. The Mint Tea is great. Fresh, hot and oh so minty and yum! My husband had the Kefta Sandwich and I snagged a tiny bite — it was mmmm for my tummy! Moist meat spiced wonderfully and the mayo/aioli was so good and creamy. I had the Chicken Couscous and it was okay. Everything was cooked well, but it was a bit bland for my taste. I think the waiter recognized that and offered me some harissa(chili sauce) — that really spiced it up for me and made it much more enjoyable. Service was impeccable and we will definitely be going back.

I stopped in at Marrakesh months ago to see if I could pick up a to-go menu and get a feel for the place. I’ve been dying to go back every since! I was treated with such courtesy and hospitality, and they served me some of their fantastic mint tea while I was there. Tonight Marrakesh lived up to my expectations and previous experience. The dining room is quiet and near-empty, with what I assume is Moroccan music in the background. The ambiance is great, the service is personable, and the food is stunning. I mean really. The shrimp appetizer didn’t just have tender shrimp, it was also impeccably spiced. Even my European dessert(crème brûlée) was delicately flavored with orange and was really different then anything I’d ever tried before. I loved the mint tea the first time I tried it, and this time I was surprised to see that when I opened the teapot to see what the spices looked like, it was filled with the actual little mint stalks and leaves… very fresh! The main dishes are HUGE and could easily be shared. I have fallen in love, and I will be back! Given that this place is usually close to empty, family run, and serves delicious upscale Moroccan, I definitely recommend that everyone give it a try.

As you walk through the double glass doors, you’ll inhale the warm and sensuous aroma of cinnamon, ginger and cumin. The staff will have you seated in no time, provided there isn’t a wait, and you’ll be on your way to a sort of heaven for tastebuds. You never knew cinnamon could take the lead role in an entrée until you dig in – and you will DIG in – to the food at Marrakesh Café. You can BYOB or pick up a bottle of wine across the street – the proprietor often comes in and asks if you’d like to buy a bottle of wine, so don’t worry if you forgot to bring one along. The upstairs has been transformed into a cultural getaway perfect for parties, while downstairs each table is encased in privacy by luxurious silks and linens draped from rafters overhead. The staff is more than friendly and ready to recommend something if you’re not sure. Always, ALWAYS have the tea. Trust me on this one. And have seconds. It’s so very worth it.

This a lovely place to eat a delicious and authentic Moroccan meal. The service is attentive yet not intrusive and the ambiance is reserved yet inviting. I started out with the spicy and warm Harira soup and just fell in love not only is it a great way to start off your meal … anytime I can order something that has garbanzos without rice I’m happy. The beef brochettes were well-seasoned & über-tender. They were served with a great house salad too. All the tagines ordered by the different members of our party were found to be delectable & satisfying. The mint green tea is definitely a must order. You get free refills too. I definitely look forward to a return visit & ordering the Cornish hen tagine next time around.
