Sassy waitresses, mess o’greens, beef stew on a cold day, breakfast in a hot pile? If this describes components of a hometown restaurant, paired with loud friendly«what’re you eating» neighbors, then these are your restaurants. The Workers’ Paradise is on Harry Hines at Royal midst truck depots and Korean importers. Crowded, especially lunch weekdays. Irving Boulevard near the Anatole and downtown fares better unless it’s after church on Sunday. Or lunch. Homemade biscuits both lications, pies with six inch meringues. If you like that sort of adult entertainment. You’re welcome.

Classic diner with classic diner food. The cinnamon rolls are delicious. The pancakes melt in your mouth. The bacon has the perfect amount of crisp. When I order eggs medium, I get eggs medium. The service is good. Food comes out quick. I never have to wait for my drink to be refilled. I have never been here in the afternoon or evening. Also, I have never eaten anything but breakfast food here. However, if their breakfast is any indicator of their dinner, I am sure they are delicious.

We decided to try this place based on Unilocal reviews and we were greatly disappointed. Customer Service was basically nonexistent. We weren’t greeted upon walking in and it was a vibe almost as if they didn’t want a packed restaurant! Our server was ok, but we began to get less than courteous service when we weren’t ready to order within 5 minutes of walking in. In all it took us about 10 minutes to peruse the menu and decide upon a order mainly because their«specials» are lacking. Things like there are no combos with eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes or some form of bread. Typically you are choosing about 3 out of these options. In all the food was average and overpriced. I would not recommend and we will not return. You’d be better off at Denny’s and probably come out cheaper.

Popular old-school diner in the Dallas’ Design District. There were people of every type coming here to eat and I could also see that this diner is popular with the nearby Oak Lawn community as well. A good thing about this diner is that it is located next to the bike trail that is supposed to connect Oak Lawn to the Trinity River. The service was friendly and good. The food was okay for diner food. I had large chicken fried steak with eggs, grits and biscuits with gravy. The chicken fried steak was probably the best part, having good flavor even though it was pounded relatively thin. The grits didn’t have any flavor, the biscuits were overly buttery, and the eggs were just okay. Perhaps I may have not ordered the best dish, but there are other options in the menu to choose from. And looking at the reviews, perhaps I should have ordered the chicken fried chicken — but really my CFS wasn’t the problem. It was that everything else could be much better. Needless to say, I ate and finished my CFS first, and quickly. Regardless, I can see how this can be a fun space as it seems to double as a popular community gathering spot.

I travel a lot for work and like to find new places to eat(sometimes). When I tried to check into my hotel early they didn’t have a room ready so I decided to get some lunch. I did a search on Unilocal and Mama’s had the highest rating so I decided to give it a shot. If I would have judged this book by it’s cover, I never would have eaten here but I’m glad I did. This place has a very small hometown feel to it even though it’s just minutes away from downtown Dallas, TX. I opted for the Chicken Fired Steak, side salad, buttered carrots and potato salad. While it sounds like a lot the lunch portions were actually very reasonable. The overall quality of the food was better then I expected from the look of the place. I’m giving it a four-star rating. While the food was good the wait staff wasn’t to friendly till the very end. My server may just have been having a bad day at first but really didn’t come off friendly till she gave me the check. It wasn’t a freak friendly like leave me a tip but it was day and night from when I first sat down.

I love diners! The breakfast is usually some of the best around, simply, straightforward, and comfortable. Mama’s Daughters’ Diner is no exception. Mama’s Daughters’ Diner is a throwback, when you walk in, you can tell most of the people have be coming here a long time. The waitresses know a lot of them by name. There’s something really cool about that. It’s also cool that the waitresses have their own personalities and provide a wonderfully casual service. I enjoy eating breakfast foods and can eat it anytime of day. So coming here is always a treat. The best part of dining in a good diner is the food preparation. So far, on every visit the eggs have been cooked perfectly. It’s hard to get prefect over-medium egg at most places, but not here. The hash browns are nice and tender with a good crisp on the outside. You get a hefty portion, so you’re not leaving hungry. Let’s not forget the biscuits & sausage gravy. Great biscuits and a thick creamy gravy with a generous amount sausage really hits the spot when you want something to remind you of home. This place is definitely on my list for breakfast food anytime of day.

I had the chicken tetrizinni and OMG was it good! The friend okra is on point. Excellent comfort food for my soul. It is just like my momma used to make :).

I order the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes taste very artificial. Gravy taste watered down. My boyfriend got the baked chicken, the piece was so small and no meat on it. I can say the bread rolls and cornbread we’re really good. The buttered corn was good as well.

Great diner style breakfasts here! The place is fun to go to because it attracts people from all walks of life and evokes a nostalgic feeling as if my late grandparents might walk through the doors and sit down with me at any moment. This is southern homestyle cookin’, so don’t come here if you’re looking for gluten-free organic fare. This is stick-to-your-ribs food. Biscuits & gravy, chicken fried steak, ham & eggs, grits, meatloaf, chicken & dumplings… nothing light, but all tempting when you want to fill your belly for awhile. And despite what another review I read says, they do have real butter, not just margarine — there was an entire basket of it on our table each time I visited. I ordered the chicken fried chicken on my first visit. A friend had told me they have the best in Dallas, and although I’m going to have to disagree with that statement, I will agree that it was pretty darned delicious and I would definitely order it again. My husband had the chicken fired steak breakfast, which came with eggs and hashbrowns, I think, as well as biscuits and gravy. He didn’t have to eat until late that evening. On our second visit, Gary got the same breakfast combo, but with ham instead of the chicken fry. I decided to try the bacon & cheddar omelet. I was a little disappointed at first sight of my omelet, because they stir the non-cheese ingredients into the eggs before cooking them, rather than tucking them inside, but after I tasted it, I was pleasantly surprised. The eggs were a perfect consistency: tender, fresh and hot, not overcooked, cold or rubbery as sometimes they can be when prepared that way. The bacon was still crispy, and the gooey cheese filling hit the spot. My hashbrowns weren’t the best that day, like as if they had been sitting in a warmer for awhile, but they were cooked tender and salt and pepper improved them greatly. The biscuits and gravy that came on the side didn’t disappoint either. Needless to say, I didn’t need to eat until much later that evening. If they’re crowded when you arrive, you may be at a communal table, but don’t fret — the other diners will be busy stuffing their faces with their massive portions, you won’t have to worry about them chatting you up or accidentally eating your food…

Love this place for breakfast! There are 2 things I’ve tried which I won’t be ordering again: Ribeye and Meatloaf. Riveted… or maybe it was Sirloin… whatver the breakfast steak is… it was really tough and tasted off. Even A1 could not save it. Nuff said. The meatloaf was really heavy in tomato sauce. Was more like Italian meatball than savory ML sauce. Pass on both IMO. Chicken Fried Chicken though? Outstanding! Nice crunch and juicy chicken. Sides are also tasty. Breakfast anything standard is awesome. Even the coffee is great without much sugar added. We get seated within a few minutes every visit. Is a place to become a regular at easily!

This was my first stop in Dallas. My flight landed at 5:30 am and I had some time to kill before normal people woke up so I made my way to this diner. The décor is cute with all these quotes that«Mama says» but other than that it’s your normal diner scene. The most noticeable thing for me was their excellent service! They were sooo fast. But that did not at all affect their quality. I got a coffee and the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were so flaky/soft/buttery, and the gravy was really tasty. The coffee was also pretty good. Prices are also extremely reasonable.

I was pleased with the food and service. I ordered a spicy chicken salad, which felt a little risky at a diner. BUT they pulled it off well. Everything was fresh and crisp.(Although totally not spicy.) The service was good. I got coffee refills on the regular. The opportunity for improvement: The ladies bathroom wasn’t very clean. It looked like someone hadn’t mopped in there in a long time and it smelled like sewer.

Come here often. Service is great and the food is even better. There great for breakfast lunch and dinner. Good home style cooking at an affordable price. They have daily specials for lunch and dinner. Everything is good! Today I order a #1. 2 eggs scrambled with cheese, has browns, 2 chips and 2 biscuits with sausage gravy. It’s always a hefty meal that I can never finish. I always end up taking the biscuits and gravy home and coking bacon for a meal later(just as good at home as it is there). The cops a got fried, perfection! I put hot sauce on everything. I like spicy. Everything is so good. I never have any complaints. And if you like joe, they have a pretty good cup here :)

I’d like to clone this diner, place it in a more affluent area near upscale retail and churches; then get Alton Brown or other chefs to rework every single menu item’s recipe for optimum flavor and nutrition. Now, how good could it get? This is not an impressive diner, but it’s the top end of the diners in Dallas. People know about it, because of its longevity as a Dallas mainstay, but it isn’t the kind of place I’d take anyone, for any reason. Not anymore. I’m over 50. Food like this just isn’t nutritious enough for me, so it’s not worth the money you have to spend to eat it. But, I like diners, and don’t want to say goodbye to them. How can we get diners like this to improve their menus, improve the bioavailability and nutrition of their food, throw away their can openers, start using fresh or frozen vegetables, season their food a little, and open their eyes to the actual nutritional needs of their aging customers? Really, how can we do that? Maybe I should open my own diner and call it, «Mama’s Daughters’ Customers’ Finer Diner.

This place is «hog’s heaven!» OMG, it’s good that I only eat like this on the weekends. You can taste the real butter in almost every thing. My hubby & I will have to workout extra hard next week. Well worth the extra effort, because the food is yummy. The sides & main dishes truly taste homemade. I saved space for dessert, and indulged in the peach cobbler. Also delicious — fresh tasting with a buttery crust, and topped with vanilla ice cream. There are about 4 different locations. Check them out!

We had a Groupon and decided to try this place for breakfast. It was a bit of a drive from our house, but ultimately it was worth it. The restaurant itself is quite modest and not a lot of parking. In terms of ambience, there is not a lot to say. The food is a different story. I got the combo breakfast #3 – eggs, hash brown, a meat, and either biscuits and gravy or grits. I got the biscuits and gravy. I liked my breakfast a lot. The eggs were fresh and cooked as I requested. The hash browns were from real potatoes and were fresh, not frozen. The sausage patties were good. The star was the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were excellent, probably the best I’ve had outside of Guenther House in San Antonio. They were light, fluffy and flaky, with great butter flavor. The gravy also was homemade with big chunks of sausage. The wife choose a pecan waffle and some eggs on the side. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The pecan waffle was excellent, with lots of pecans. The waffle was light and very flavorful. Overall, we had an excellent breakfast and we both would happily return in the future.

So I enjoy catching Saturday morning breakfast at Diners, one because they are cheap and two because you can normally find great coffee at these indiscript spots. So me and my girl decided to visit this place on a quest for breakfast. Mama’s Daughter’s Diner is located along the backside of the Design District. On the outward appearance, it wasn’t much to look at, but definitely not a sight for sore eyes. We strolled in and took our seats. Our waitress Carolyn was very nice and immediately took our orders and we were amazed at how fast our food came out. My french toast was VERYVERY good. We both enjoyed our food and the coffee was exceptional. We like this spot, and I’ve added it to my list of diners. Definitely drop by. You won’t be disappointed.

This place didn’t do it for me. It lacked in personality, flavor, and, service. There was a decent breakfast crowd, and, service was slow. Our waitress was sub par. Twice I had to get.up.and get my own coffee. Normally, I don’t have a problem with that if I know my waiter/ress is super busy, but, our girl liked chatting a bit too much. We only did breakfast here. We were unimpressed with the quality. The sausage patties were prehistoric scary dryness. Bacon was cold, salty and stale. Very chewy like jerky. Eggs were good. Biscuits were small in comparison with the Purple Onion. They were also a bit chewy. Too much Yeast? They had sausage gravy. Yay! Hashbrowns were typical of a greasy diner. We found this place to be sub par to the Purple Onion. Seriously. Staff here were rude, quality of food sucked, service sucked. Overall just a bad experience. With the Purple Onion being a block up, I would go there.

Do you prefer shredded hash browns over breakfast potatoes? Do you prefer sausage patties over sausage links? Do you like BISCUITSANDGRAVY?! DOYOULIKECHEAPFOOD!!! Tell me the truth now, do ya? If you answered yes to all of the questions above, then Mama freakin’ welcomes you with open arms. For others like me, the spoiled rebellious child, I left beaten with a switch and probably should never return… ever! I did have this romanticized view of an old-timey diner: comfort food that healed all your pains and tasted like something I’d only get if I was a «good girl». Plus, I had the zings one morning so I thought greasy food would do the trick. Put simply, there’s no way to make cheap food not taste like cheap food. I got a #2, some cluck and grunt with two crispy sausages and some grits. Yeah, it was greasy alright, but greasy is only okay if that stuff tastes good. I tried biscuits and gravy for the first time ever to see what the fuss was about. The biscuits were the kind with a brown bubbled top you could poke in with your finger like a fragile shell. Crummy. The gravy didn’t taste like anything either and just felt weird and jiggly in my mouth. No need to relive awful experiences during breakfast, thank you very much. The people that love it here probably think I’m the snob now! Don’t get me wrong, the staff members were very nice and the service was quick during a busy morning. I’m probably just being the brat kid that refuses to eat her peas because they taste nasty!
