I came here Ina Friday night for the Erykah Badu listening party and really enjoyed myself. The event was hosted by The Cannaboids(not sure who they are by ok lol). Lab Art is a really nice space with very cool art so I’m not sure who to blame for the misunderstandings that everyone encountered this night. We were firstly told that we needed to RSVP in order to get it so we did and we got there around 8 and stood in line for the event which started at 9. It was raining and 40 degrees out but we’re fans of Mama Badu so it’s all good. We were first in line when it opened but instead of RSVP they’re charging us $ 20 to get it and of course we’re gonna pay it I mean we just stood in line for an hour in the cold and rain. They did somewhat make up for it by having an open bar but it was still a shitty thing to do. Overall I had fun got some pics and enjoyed the show although I think they could have given more notice regarding admission.

I went for the first time tonight and had the best time of my life. I met the QUEEN Erykah Badu and had free drinks all night and ONLY for 20 bucks… score!!! LABARTFORLIFE! Oh yah and Erykah was the sweetest person ever! That door guy was working his ass off and he owns the place. Wow.

So I went from a five star review to one star because of bad planing and poor hosting. We attempted to attend the Erykah Badu listening party that was supposed to be free. When we arrived we thought we were late but their was line that went around the block everyone was in the rain. The event was supposed to start at 9. We decided to stay and wait because for one it’s a free event and two we get to meet Mrs Badu and see some cool art. As we got to the front of the line the man at the door said«that’s it we are at capacity we are stopping at these two» I was like«sweet we are in» as we were entering the cop that was on duty grabbed my fiancé arm as if she was stealing something and«said hold on» we were dumbfounded like WTF. The guy at the front said no there good as he was counting a huge stack of twenties. He said 20 bucks I said«what I thought it was free we don’t have cash» he said they take Debit at the table as o was walking to the table I was thinking«forget this» my fiancé was disrespected, we stood in the rain, we were treated as if we’re animals, and they still have the never to ask for money. Nah we left. As we were leaving I was thinking they haven’t told the people in line in the rain that they are at capacity that’s messed up. And I’ve never seen a cop at any other event Lab Art has thrown. I’m so disappointed with the Gallery.

Free 21+ event, RSVP by email. Don’t wait till it’s too late… BS!!! I RSVP and never received a confirmation, I asked what was up with that and they said«oh don’t worry as long as you RSVPed you are ok.» I see they took my suggestion from my previews review, and this show sounded promising; sourgrapes and the almighty Ms. Erykah Badu! I was so Daing excited! The show was suppose to begin at 9 p.m. I arrived at 9:15 it was cold 38 degrees rainy as hell but I wanted in! I waited in the cold rain for 45 minutes, when it was finally our turn to go in we showed the guy our IDs, he didn’t have a list with names or anything he said go in. As soon as we where going to enter someone told my bf and I, it was ATFULLCAPACITY and they where charging $ 20.00 a person… WTF??? Does that make any sense? I didn’t care, I wanted to see Badu! I was standing in front of the door looking for cash to go in. When I felt someone grab me by the arm and said«hold on,» wtf I wasn’t even moving I was searching in my purse. I looked up and it was a cop, i give him the dirtiest look and said WTF? Then the gallery guy said no it’s ok they are going to be the last ones. We walked in but I felt so uncomfortable and disrespected. First of I all this is my fourth time going and had never ever seen a cop, it’s usually a girl in high heels welcoming people in… it automatically made me assume that it was because it was a minority event. SMH Second, i wouldn’t had mind paying $ 20.00 for a gallery exhibition, I was going to till rude ass cop grabbed me like I was up to no good. Also, JUSTBEUPFRONT and promote it as an entrance fee, not free. Their is a difference between free and 20 bucks. I pictured the owner saw the line and said«easy money! if this people are wiling to stand in line in the cold rain.» We where walking towards the desk to pay and they kept telling us they where waiting for us, I told my BF nah, Lets get the hell out of here. So we walked away and complained to the gallery guy. He didn’t care, he was making money. As we where walking out about 50 people where still waiting in the rain, cars looking for parking and no one told them it was a $ 20 fee to get in. And that more than likely they wouldn’t even be able to get in. I’m done trying giving this place a chance. It’s always something, and it’s always something worse than the last.

Very cool street style art gallery. Saw many pieces that I would love to have for my collection. Amber(I think was her name) was very friendly and welcoming. She introduced herself right away, welcomed us, explained the gallery with a bit of history of its roots and offered us a beverage, then allowed us to wander around and take it all in.

This place looks cool on the outside but wasn’t open. Had a come back at 4:30pm sign and a contact number. However, they did not return at 4:30 and the number listed wasn’t answers all three times I called. Just bad business!
