DOMAKEEYECONTACTWITHTHEREGULARS ALSO, TREATTHEMLIKEHUMANBEINGSMAYBE because they’re amazing and this place is amazing. This bar’s clientele taught me a trick shot in pool(Juan), argued with me about the Constitution(the 3⁄5 compromise in particular), and got me as close to experiencing the life of a Vietnam War combat medic as I’ll ever get(Larry). Short story: great bartenders, great people, great jukebox, great atmosphere. Doesn’t matter who you are, the regulars will treat you like you’re one of them. No draft beers(proud to say I helped kill the last keg ever at King’s X), but by the time you’ve talked to anyone at the bar, either side, you’ll realize that doesn’t matter. I speak with a convert’s fervor because I didn’t like this place at first. A close friend of mine came up to me raving about it one day and mentioned that apparently Owen Wilson had once been seen there. The first time I went was an education. «Can you make a manhattan?» I asked rhetorically, fully expecting the drink. «No,» said the bartender. My friend just sort of laughed and I ordered a Maker’s Mark, neat. I was put off. Then I got to know the place. The people are friendly. There are actual regulars. A lot of people call King’s X a dive bar, and I guess that’s right, but«dive» is too much a label to be accurate. I loved lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson when I lived in Dallas, but King’s X isn’t just a watering hole. It’s a place where the patrons remember Dallas before it was a mid-level rung on the corporate ladder, before SMU got the death penalty, before there was a JFK monument catty-corner to El Centro downtown. Go, and be yourself, because the people there will welcome you with open arms, no matter who that is. I loved Dallas. This place and these people are part of why I did.

Don’t go by what it looks like on the outside. Or inside. This is a local watering hole, the drinks are strong, the people friendly and they’ll remember your name the next time you go in. Good friendly patrons who will accept you as one of the herd in no time.

Straight up dive bar– and that’s a compliment. No windows, Christmas lights, door bell that rings every time someone walks in the solid metal security door, Jell-O shots. Walked in and Chaka Khan was on the jukebox followed by billy squier, followed by 15 minutes of silence because no one paid for any songs. Asked what beers they had and bartender said nothing and just pointed to the bottles on the wall. Including us, only 6 customers on Friday night, which was perfect. Bartender was very nice. These places are becoming harder to find so finding kings X was a nice surprise.

After the show it’s the after party!!! Woop! Oh my goodness, we fell into King’s X after one of our CMYE at Lalibela’s next door and was immediately greeted with a «come on in» from everyone at the bar! This is definitely a hole-in-the wall dive where everyone that walks in… is officially family! They have plenty of space to have a seat and grab a couple of drinks at the bar with three TV’s as well(thanks for playing the Spurs game… WOOP). They also have a shuffle board, slot machines, pool tables and a juke box!!! Love it! We settled down at a small table by the bar and just took in the atmosphere of the place… and then our bartender brought over a bowl of chips for us… as we looked closer we noticed the goodies that were inside: bugles, fritos, nacho chips, potato chips and bbq chips. Don’t judge me, but I couldn’t stop munching on the bugles!!! LOL! I think I might’ve picked all of them out of the bowl… LOL! After the fellas had a few drinks(and shots thanks to Chester) we ended the night with laughs and a friendly goodbye from everyone there. I’m starting to realize, it’s not where you go… it’s who you’re with and you can have a good time anywhere with the right people, so grab your friends and hit King’s X!

This could easily be my new favorite dive bar. Too bad it’s so far off my radar. A group of us wandered in last night and had a great time. Dana(I think) was our bartender and she was awesome. I enjoyed talking with her when she had some down time. This bar is private so they have to scan your driver’s license, and you sign some sort of membership, but then you have your drink in your hand. This bar has pool tables, shuffle board, juke box, video games and a few TV’s to watch sports. They had Rangers and the Heat/Spurs game both on last night. Also who doesn’t love a bar that serves bugle chips and pretzels! They don’t have any windows so it was easy to lose track of time, but we were having a good time. Would definitely love to come back for cheap drinks!

Who doesn’t love a little neighborhood bar where the guest are as salty as the tequila salt??? This place is located next to Lalibela’s and is convenient to have a nightcap! Even though it is considered a private bar, they welcome all who enter! They have everything a little«hole in the wall» could offer: shuffle board game, juke box, awesome bar staff, and tv’s playing the latest sporting events! I felt so at home, I just make this one of my new watering holes! You can hide and socialize at the same time! Great place!

4*? you say ? Well, 4* for the fun but the cheap booze did a few of us in. I’m one of the lucky ones who drank beer and had no ill effects but if you drink cheap alcohol it will get you in the end. No food, cheap alcohol, hangovers in our party and you wonder what’s up with the 4 stars? Live music, good fun, crazy people = a lot of entertainment!. So if this is what you are looking for King’s X has it. Just eat before you get here because there is nothing to eat here and a little advise from a seasoned dive bar gal — drink beer if you want to get out of bed the next morning.

DONTMAKEEYECONTACTWITHTHEREGULARS! You have been forewarned! Ummmm…shady & stanky don’t begin to adequately describe this dive. I walked in around 10 p.m. & saw a few folks who all appeared to be regulars who probably started drinking at 5 p.m., right after work, but at 10:30 weren’t ready to leave. I saw many people stumbling & heard lots of slurred speech. One lady literally stumbled backwards against my friend and just leaned on him before she walked out of the bar… Another weird occurrence — there was a small white dog that ended up having her own seat on a bar stool. She was the quietest & most well behaved patron at the bar. I wonder what her poison is. *raised eyebrow* I made a decent time of my visit by playing shuffleboard and having a Maker’s Mark Manhattan straight up(which I had to instruct the bartender on how to make). tsk-tsk. I shall not return.

If you’re looking for a small cozy place to relax, come to King’s X. Bet-N-Man plays there every other Saturday. Great band. The female lead has an awesome voice.

This is one of the most underrated dive bars in Dallas! If you’ve never been here, you might have a hard time finding the place. This neat little dive is tucked away in the strip mall, just east of Greenville, on the north side of Forest Lane, next to Momo’s Italian restaurant. The lounge was brought to my attention a number of years ago, as a hideout for some local celebrities. If you ask the bartenders, they can regale you with stories of Don«Nelly» Nelson(the old Dallas Maverick’s coach) and Owen Wilson playing poker or dominoes in the back of the club, for $ 100 a game. They both used to be regulars here and stop by from time to time, when they’re in town. There are a couple of TVs which usually have news or sports on. They serve a cold beer, a stiff drink, and usually have live music(blues) on the weekends. King Me!
