I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife had the tilapia with broccoli and black eyed peas. The pot roast and fish were awesome. The veggies could have been seasoned a little more for my taste but still very good. Service was also excellent! Will definitely come back.

This one is a tough one to review. In my opinion, they should stick with the sushi. This guy obviously has mad skills doing sushi, and a really killer chef coat too.(we did see him on our way out smoking with his chef jacket on… come on man… being a chef I feel qualified in saying this… that’s gross. take your apron and your chef coat off to go to the bathroom or go smoke) The rest of the regular menu items looked and tasted like they came from cans. My mom ordered sweet potatoes and they were canned sweet potatoes in syrup. Those are on the menu as available only on Thursdays when one of the specials is turkey and dressing. Canned sweet potatoes? IDK… The sushi plates and platters are beautiful and tasted amazing… everyone else at the bar was staring at my dad’s plate… but the rest of the food… nothing to look at.

2016 Unilocal 100 Challenge Review #7(update) I’ve been here a few times and I must say I like it. It’s very no frills don’t get me wrong. I mean no mules, no mojito, no Irish cream. So stick to your wells, wine and beer. Food wise, I’m still loving the salmon by far my favorite dish. They have great steam veggies which I always need in my life. Didn’t like the queso or chips! The tortilla soup was legit. Fries are cool. Burgers are OK too. So, overall you can get er done at this place. Music is hit or miss depending on your fancy. No frills service but very nice people.

Not sure how this restaurant has such a good review. Went here for lunch on Friday and as soon as we walked in the door we noticed what seemed to be a toenail on the floor in the front lobby area. No staff was there to greet or seat us and no sign saying to wait to be seated or seat yourself. The restaurant was filthy and the food was very poor.

I’ve been to Kay’s 4 times, 3 of which my order was wrong in some way. Today I ordered a chef salad and got a grilled chicken salad with ROTTEN black lettuce all in it. I contacted Kay’s but no response. Go literally anywhere else.

Surprisingly good with a varied menu. Mostly American fare. I stopped here because it was close to the hospital I was visiting. I ordered the fried catfish and it was flavorful and piping hot. The next night I got soup and salad and the navy bean soup was very good while the salad was fresh and delicious. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service. What more do you want?

Came here for lunch. Good amount of customers eating during peak hours which is a good sign. Atmosphere is nice and comfortable. Bar, sushi, and classic American food. Weird combo for a restaurant, but I’m not complaining. Very friendly staffs. Kim, my server was on point! Makes the visit so much better. Had edamame, which had a little bit too much salt on it. Sushi; spicy tuna, and spider roll both was good but I think the quality of the sushi rice could be better, delicious regardless. They have daily lunch specials which looked interesting, something I’ll have to comeback to try.

I am staying at the hotel next door. Server with pink-colored hair was having too much fun with the other customers around. Forgetting the other customers(me). Forgetting about me once was okay. It took a long time before she took my order. She apologized. I said, it was okay. It happened again when I asked for chopsticks. I had to wave at her because I’ve been waiting too long. She apologized again, and I said it was okay(again). Finally, strike three: I was sitting at the booth and been waving at her but she was too busy«having fun» with the other group of customers and she didn’t notice me. I couldn’t take it anymore and I had to go to the bar to get my check. Paid the bill and walked out. Food was okay.

Odd. I think that sums this place up. We came in on a Saturday at noon. We were the only people there which indicates that it’s not a very popular place. Service was great but the food is rather dull. It’s just a strange place. Basically a diner with sushi that serves fried rice with enchiladas.

I began coming to Kay’s several months ago after I started working in the area. Kay’s has turned out to be a great little spot to get a good lunch, hangout for happy hour, and enjoy some excellent and creative sushi. The thing I like most about Kay’s is that it feels like a neighborhood hangout I’ve been coming to for years after just a couple of visits. There are a few regulars that I see when I come in. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s lunch or happy hour, Kay herself is always there to make sure everything is to your liking. Kay’s menu covers pretty much all of the American classics, plus a few extras. While Kay’s is not exactly fine dining, don’t’ sell it short, there are some really good dishes to found. Mom’s Meatloaf and the Pork Chops come to mind. I must say I’ve spent a lot of my time in the bar area after work. There’s always some sort of happy hour special going on. The drink prices are fair and the bartenders pour a robust drink. I don’t know if you can get one of those big pretty cocktails here, maybe so, but it strikes me more of a blue collar kind of place. Beer and whiskey please… there always a good mix of people in the bar area. The big surprise for me… Sushi! That’s right, sushi! It’s a real player at Kay’s. On my initial visit I was genuinely surprised to find a sushi bar inside. After a couple of visits and talking with Kay, I decided to give it try. The first roll I tried was The Alaskan Roll, which was fresh, delicious, and artfully crafted. It was definitely one of the better sushi rolls I’ve had, especially to be tucked away in an American restaurant/bar. Now just about every time I’m in Kay’s I have to have a roll or two and some sashimi. It’s a great neighborhood place! I definitely enjoy stopping by for a good meal and/or relaxing with a few friends and drinks in the evening after work.

I had the grilled tilapia and my wife had the grilled port chops. Both were really good. Service was okay, a little slow at times, but okay overall. Very nice folks.

We called delivery service, it comes after 30 mins. The food is horrible! Wings are very dry and salty, cucumber salad is too plain! Zero zero!

Odd would be a good way to explain this place. To be fair the service is outstanding. I’m here on a Wednesday evening. The place isn’t even close to half way full. At best a quarter. Given it’s not a prime dining night but still that is an indicator. This place is a sushi bar, hometown diner and full bar all rolled together. I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak dinner, a middle of the road meal. I wasn’t impressed. It was ok, but far from outstanding. Good enough to make a turd as my country relatives might say. You can tell this place gets by on regulars because the average person such as myself is going to get a culture shock coming in here. Drunken loud patrons and very loud local radio over a PA system. Sound buffering walls would do a wonder with this place. As it stands if I’m not picky about my food I’ll come back. However just for the food or environment I’ll definitely pass this place up. Such a disappointment since this place is within walking distance. I hoping for a better experience.

Omg really good and right next door to candle wood suites and several other Hotels. Came here for dinner. We were greeted by these two young Asian girls. Very Asian with cute shorty shorts on. Haha. When taking our orders they giggled a lot. A bit hard to understand but cute. They were a few days old on the waitressing thing. They had to ask lots of questions! I wanted sushi! Ordered Miso and Love Tower. When it came it was beautiful(and I forgot to take a pic). It was stacked rice mold on bottom and shape of a heart Spicey tuna on top. It was played really awesome with two types of drizzle around plate. My first thought was wow how am I supposed to eat this. Then the waitress said I mix it for u. So a mixing she went. I have to say it looked like a pile of mush. Mm I was thinking where is the seaweed? So we tasted it and ambrosia!!! Spicey and sweet. She asked me if I would like some seaweed and I said yes. So she brought me that and some ginger plus Wasabi and soy. So I made little sushi burritos. Lol boy that was good. Hubby had tues special rib tips over noodles with collards. He didn’t want sushi tonite. That was also delish. For not wanting sushi he sure did like my tastes. So he ended up ordering some nigiri. Ika and Tobiko. The chef made the sushi so special. The Ika actually looked like a fish(see pic) hubby left me one to share. Yummy. Tobiko was also beautiful. It had three different flavors of Tobiko, cherry(red), berry(black or purple) and wasabi(green). He didn’t give me any of that but it must have been really good. He said so… Waaaa. So they have breakfast, sushi, American, some Mexican and soon to be Korean Fare! I told owner(he was making sushi) that we will be back when we fly in next month for some Korean! Oh and a great bar with happy hr. We saw a few regulars come in and talk to wife Kay sitting at bar having a few after work. So if u don’t know what u want to eat come here! I’m sure they have something u will love!

Wow! This places sucks! Person running the karaōke, at night, is rude. They do offer great prices for drinks, so if you are trying to run in for some quick drinks before you go out, this is the place go. Ambience is horrible and I feel like, at times, someone in there may shoot me lol(hope I expressed the safety concerns in a polite way). Pros: Blonde who is serving the drinks is very nice and great server!

We went here since our other co-workers recommended this place. To my surprise this place is actually good. The server was really friendly, since we ate a late lunch, she was taking our orders and she sat next to our chairs and talked to us for bit about the menu. My co-worker couldn’t decide on what to get since the Sushi master was on break and he wanted Sushi. So instead, he got the Fajitas as well, I got the chicken and steak sizzling fajita. Brings back my memories of the Taco Mac Fajitas. Good selection of sides and the meat was tender and tasty. We also ordered the chips and queso even though I had better ones in George, my cravings were satisfied and we finished it in no time. I wish I ordered salso to mix with the queso, just like the way I did it with my previous room mate in Georgia. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. I’m sure our new office mates next door will be going to this place.

I’ve eaten here a few times. The first time was around noon on a Sunday, and I was literally the only customer. Apparently, they only recently started opening on Sunday. The server got my order wrong, but I ate it anyway, since it wasn’t far off from what I wanted, and I didn’t feel like waiting for another order to be cooked. They did comp the meal though, so points for that. The place is nice, but it seems to be trying to cover too many bases. It’s kind of a sports bar, with a good number of TVs around, yet it’s also a sushi place, and there’s a lot of comfort food on the menu, like chicken fried steak, and roast beef, plus more upscale items. They have day-of-the-week specials, which I haven’t tried yet. The Tuesday beef tips and noodles are on my agenda though.

I wish I could give this place four stars, but I just can’t. The service was incredible, I ordered my meatloaf and 5 minutes later I had my salad and then 5 minutes later I received my entrée, and I was constantly given refills whenever my drink came close to being empty. The waitress was super sweet and friendly, and so were all the other employees. If there was a ranking system according to service I would give this place 5 stars out of 5. However, I feel the food was a little lacking to go with the great service. For instance, I ordered one of the daily specials which was the meatloaf and it was very bland, and the texture was that of a frozen meal. Not only that, but the meatloaf and the mashed potatoes were covered in a tomato/gravy substance with peppers and onions that honestly, I scraped off after the first two bites. Which meant I wasn’t the biggest fan of most of the meal. Also, towards the end of the meal the table was served rolls and cornbread and the bread was pretty rough, and I felt as if it had been sitting out for a while. But the salad was spot on, and was pretty incredible as a side item. Like I said in my review earlier the service was amazing, I just wish the food held up.

3 stars is labeled«A-OK». Unfortunately, I can’t really say that about Kay’s as a whole, so the next step down is «Meh. I’ve experienced better», or 2 stars. I brought my family here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. It wasn’t busy at all, maybe 5 or 6 other people there. After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit perplexed. One person gave a very low review stating there were 3 tables in the whole restaurant? Obviously they were in the wrong place. Kay’s is a spacious restaurant with at least 20 tables and 15 booths, with a full bar and as well as a sushi bar. Another reviewer stated that the menu was too extensive. That was definitely not true. The menu was average size and variety for a bar/grill. Nonetheless what is accurate about these reviews is the comments about the service. It was EXTREMELY slow to the point of being annoying. My mother-in-law asked for coke with some lemon wedges on the side. We never saw those wedges until we asked 2 more times for it and were almost done with our meals. The food was good, but it wasn’t good enough to warrant a return visit, especially considering how long it took for the food to come out(I am guesstimating at least 35 – 40 minutes for 2 sandwiches, a fajita plate and some chicken fingers). If you don’t mind the long wait, and you are close by and have a lot of time to kill, it might be worth a try. but I personally will never be returning. It just happened to be in the neighborhood of where we were doing some volunteer work.
