Jarvis Gems and Jewelry Appraisals LLC

So this was my first jewelry appraisal and thus have nothing to compare Jarvis against, but my experience was efficient and pleasant all around. I guess when you get engaged and married, you probably have jewelry you need to finally insure. I Unilocaled and researched around for local accredited appraisers, and Jarvis kept popping up. Robbins Brothers also suggested him. I also didn’t feel like going to an appraiser inside a jewelry store in case there were any hidden agendas.
Parking and finding the correct building is a bit tricky, but once you’re inside the office, it’s a seamless process. We sat down and he cleaned my two rings, photographed, then examined them. A wedding band and engagement ring took about 20 minutes to document and $ 200 + tax. He emailed me a PDF of the report 3 days later (printed copy available upon request) and forwarded the info to Jewelers Mutual. I was going to go through Jewelers Mutual anyways based on the recommendation of Brian Gavin Jewelers (who made my rings), so that was a convenient service. I then received an email with an insurance quote from JM a few days after that (Jarvis said 1 day later, but it actually took about a week possibly from the Christmas weekend).

I had a very positive experience with Mr. Jarvis. I had a gem that my grandfather gave me when I was born reset into an engagement ring, and wanted it appraised since we had no idea of the value of the stone. His examination was very thorough, and everyone was very professional and polite.
Where it gets interesting though, is that when I got home with the report, I noticed what I thought was a mistake. Mr. Jarvis had listed a diamond weight that was lower than what was on our sales receipt. After some back and forth, I sent him the original sales receipt, and he was willing to amend his appraisal based on the receipt, but encouraged us to double check with the jeweler because he thought they were misrepresenting the carat weight.
Well, he was right! Turns out, the jeweler switched to smaller diamonds when they were doing the custom setting, and not only didn’t tell us about the change, but lied to boot! When we approved the design, we actually specifically asked if the diamonds would be the same ones that were in the setting we were originally shown, and were assured that they would be.
Since the diamonds are just an accent to the larger stone we brought in, we are talking pretty small diamonds here. We never would have known about the switch if not for the expert appraisal and Mr. Jarvis encouraging us to ask the jeweler for additional documentation.

Highly recommend this appraiser. Not only was everyone friendly and professional, but also Mr. Jarvis was efficient and thorough. I had to take my twin toddlers with me, and even though one of them fussed for a moment, everyone was very patient with us. To top it off, I left my wallet in my car and Mr. Jarvis let me give my card info to him over the phone when I got home. Can’t recommend Jarvis Gems and Jewelry Appraisals enough!

Steven was great. Was recommend by some local jewelry store as one of the best in the Dallas area. They were right. Took his time to discuss the diamond with me and accommodated my requests in appraising a loose stone. I had a great positive experience. Will be returning to complete my appraisal. Would def. recommend.
