First, I kind of dig the simple feel of this place. It’s also easy and quick to get to. However, Swill and Grill left me feeling a little«meh» after the experience. I ordered the basic burger with cheddar and bacon with poutine for the side. The burger came out looking great, if not a little on the small side. No big deal, I don’t need a huge burger. Unfortunately, the bun was completely soaked through with… something. I don’t know what. It was like picking up a wet sponge. I asked the waitress for a new bun. She apologized and brought a freshly toasted replacement. After that the burger tasted really quite good. And the poutine, which I’ve never had, was good also. Then the check came. It was a little steep for the portions we received and the initial quality. I can definitely get as good a burger for less or a bigger one for the same price. I might try it again just to see if that was the norm, but with so many good burger options, it’s unlikely. FWIW… The service was good and friendly.

We’ve visited Jack Mac’s twice now. Was recommended to me by a former colleague who goes there occasionally. Food was awesome. My husband had a burger both times — both were really good. On our first visit, we had a brisket taco appetizer that was great. Although I had a chicken panini on my first visit, I was determined to order something different the second time, but couldn’t resist having it again — and no regrets. We went on Saturday both times and enjoyed the $ 5 Bloody Mary’s and the local craft beer. Nice and laid back. Great service. Will be back soon! Must try out their brunch menu.

I can respect a place that’s serving food despite its main focus is neighborhood bar but the 4 – 5 star reviews are clearly written by the local alcoholic clientele who come for drinks and not for food. My wife’s hamburger was tough to chew and soaked in grease. My chipotle meatloaf panini tasted like it had been cooked last month, only to have been nuked in the microwave for warmth. Both our fries were also equally old and stake tasting. Seriously I’m not sure why they even bother serving food, it’s beyond unremarkable and bordering unfit for human consumption.

The best food ever. Try to eat from the menu but the rotating chalkboard is so enticing I never make to the menu. If you like craft beer, outstanding selection of local and Texas beers. They rotate as well. The food is the bomb.

I’m digging the trivia on Saturday nights! They also have a great local cerveza selection if that is your thing. As far as the food goes — there’s pizzas, hummus, different types of sandwiches. Fairly basic stuff but just a step above your humdrum boring bar food. I was peeping their brunch menu and it looks great to try for the next time. Service on the trivia night could have been better. Parking is not a problem as it’s in a fairly low key shopping center area. It’s a nice option if you live near Plano and want to stay closer to home or just to get away from the typical Dallas hustle and bustle.

Not worth the price. Ordered the fish and chips. It was 2 small pieces of cod fried on a bed of fries, not worth $ 13.00! The waitress was super obnoxious and was very condescending. Really unwelcoming atmosphere. This was my 1st and last time going to that«dive» bar. Don’t waste your time, not worth it at all. Also its not funny or cute when a Waitress has a bad attitude. I asked for a sample of a beer and instead of getting me it, she wanted to know if I «even knew what a Belgium wheat is» yes i do, but i wanted to taste it before i spend $ 7.00 on a beer. Really unfriendly atmosphere. Seems like they cater to a very particular crowd. Guy sitting at the bar fell off his chair, he was so drunk, but no one even attempted to remove him. No thanks. This place is not for me. Don’t waste your money here, find somewhere else.

Great place, has a really at home feel even though located in a strip mall, kinda tucked away a bit which is nice. Food was very good i had the crab dip and pork chops and the drink selection was great. Bartender was Derrick and was a knowledgeable, friendly and honest guy and the scotch ale was a good recommendation. I definitely am service oriented as far as how I rate places and this place was second to none in service

This was my first and last time coming here. The waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. We ordered the ron Swanson pizza. The chorizo gave it an interesting flavor but the lack of sauce was apparent. Then there was the cheeseburger. Although tasty and juicy, you can’t charge $ 10 for a cheeseburger when it’s the size if McDonald’s regular cheeseburger, seriously! Lastly, we had the Mac and cheese. I couldn’t really tell if i liked it which is to say it was just ok. It tasted like a cross between cheese and Alfredo.

My fiancé and I had been dying to try this place because it’s just down the street from our house. When you walk in it has a pub feel. But yet a clean pub feel if that makes sense. They have two teams but they’re tiny. I really wish they had more. This place would be great to go watch games at but they really lack in TV’s. There’s plenty of wall space! Wish they’d add more or at least get one giant one for the wall so everyone could see. To start we ordered the queso with chorizo added. It had a good flavor but it was too runny. The cheese wouldn’t stay on the chip. The chorizo wasn’t cut up so it was in large chunks. For our meals we ordered the Mexican burger and fries. It comes with enchiladas on top of the burger meat, jalapenos and onions. I added avocado to mine. When I got my burger it was pretty small. The enchiladas aren’t enchiladas. They’re corn tortillas with cheese in the middle placed on top. Overall not a great flavor combine. The burger was dry. It really needed a sauce to give it some sort of pop. When our bill came we were shocked. The burgers were $ 11.50 and the fries weren’t included so we paid $ 2.50 for fries. So each meal was $ 14 total. A bit pricy for portion size and overall flavor of the burger. I would definitely come here for a drink but I’m not so sure about the food. Maybe they have other things on their menu that are good so maybe I’ll come back and make a second attempt. But I do not recommend the Mexican burger.

The meatballs are amazing. Tonight we had the South American«balls». Pork, chimichurra, and other spices. They placed the meet balls on a soft toasted crostini. Oh my gosh! Combined with cold glass of beer. Amazing. Also had the Pequillo peppers stuffed with shredded pork and covered with cilantro cream sauce. So good! Bennie the bartender amazing too! Great neighborhood bar.

Went there for a couples night. Had a new waitperson, no big deal, then the food came out, One plate at a time with lots of time in between. Side items were wrong and charged for things not ordered. Burgers were ordered medium well — means light pink on the inside with some juices. Burgers came out medium rare and then the manager argued with us about it. Needless to say, we will not be back.

On the Johnny Rockets scale, their hamburger is a 9.93. Only very minor problem was they put jalapenos on my plate, yuck. So next time, I will ask them not to do that. Also, the french fries had some kind of red powder stuff sprinkled over them. I’m not sure what it was, but next time I’ll asked for the fries to be done, «plain». I love the fact that the buns are NOT so big. Trying to eat less bread you know. Only one television! I hate restaurants full of TVs. I have a great TV at home if I want to watch something. I consumed no alcohol, but their Coke machine works perfectly. This is a small, informal place. The service was terrific. If you want to go fast, you can go fast, if you want to go slow, you can go slow. I also like the fact they’re open late. It’s always nice to find a great restaurant that is not part of a chain. Want a great hamburger? Go to Johnny Rockets on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, or Jack Mac’s on Preston rd. in Far North Dallas.

Fun, funky and great food. Atmosphere is casual and staff are friendly. Food is fresh and consistently good. Not many light choices but this is a place to indulge and drink. Lamb burger and chicken panini are great! Pizza menu is humorously written– very clever! Drinks are strong. One night they had movie night and the noise level was DEAFENING. When I asked to turn it down a little(the place was empty except for the bar) & they offered for us to go into a private room? We left. Except for that fluke night, I love this place! Check it out!

Even though we came at a time that wasn’t very busy, our burger and pizza order came quick and hot. They do both of these very well and deserve the awards they’ve received for their food. The bartender took the time to explain some of the beers they had on tap, which their selection of locals is hard to beat in north Dallas. A great chill place to grab some good food and a few pints!

Gotta give these guys props for an inventive menu. I mean, poutine? How cool is that? I like the vibe as well; pretty laid back and Texas-y. The day we stopped by, they had Hatch Green Chile as a burger add, so of course I jumped right in. The beer selection is first rate; lots of good local craft brews to choose from. Not sure if it was an off day, but the food took a long time to come out of the kitchen. Giant had the same as me, but he «poutined it», so maybe that’s it. As another reviewer has said, the burgers are really on the small side for being ten bucks. I get that they are known for grinding their own meat(do they still?) and it’s a tasty patty to be sure, but it’s about the size of a McD’s standard burger bun. Maybe 4 – 5 ounces? The house made pickles and relish are a good idea, although not terribly tasty on my visit. Not a big deal. I liked it well enough; just not a frequent stop for me at those prices.

Good beer selection, but didn’t love the food. My daughter had the kids grilled cheese, which was good(and served on ciabatta. Nice touch.). The personal pizza wss thin, and limp in the middle. I was two slices in before I remembered that we ordered pepperoni. Toppings were pretty meager. I’d come back to sample more beer and try other menu items. Great service!

Read review in D magazine and decided to give it a try. Asked for medium rare burger and it came out well done 20 minutes later. There were about 3 other guests in the place but service was very slow. After I sent it back, the next one came out medium rare and the cook came out to apologize. Food: *Overall I would give the burger a B– *Poutine gets a C … Gravy looked like it came out of a can moments before it was served. *Bean and quinoa burger gets a B Service: Slowwwwwwww but waiter was very nice Price: Overpriced for what you get

If you want good, local craft beer in North Dallas, go to Jack Mac’s. Unlike Flying Saucer it’s not loud and packed. The staff here has great relationships with local brewers, and bring in tons of really rare kegs to tap, and nights w/the brewmasters. They also do movie night on Thursdays, which is just fun(free movie on the big projector!). They also do in-house aged liquors with fruits, herbs — you name it. The hummus is awesome, the burgers are good. Other than that, I’d watch out. And I say that with sadness, because I really wanted the food here to be good. Unfortunately, for the most part, it’s not. I know they’ve got some great chefs whipping up new recipes in the kitchen, so hopefully someday soon the food will be as good as the drinks, but for now, I’d eat before you arrive.

I am not one to give out five stars recklessly. Jack Mac’s deserves 8 or 9 out of five, were it possible. Situated in a little strip mall, this unassuming restaurant is a gastropub with an amazing selection of libations. I am stunned that anyone has had a poor experience here, but as I have only been at lunch, I can only comment on what I have experienced. I took two co-workers to Jack Mac’s yesterday for lunch. I walked in thinking I knew what I would order — the poutine, but alas, I confounded myself by reading the menu. They offered an amazing selection of daily specials including a «Filet Quesadilla,» Corned Beef Balls, Turkey & Cabrito chili, and a chef’s special rib platter with Korean-style and Southern BBQ style ribs both on the plate. The restaurant is clean and bright. We were promptly greeted & our drinks came out quickly. I went overboard on my order — the Mexican Burber is a wonderful burger topped with all the trimmings, fresh jalepenos, and two cheese enchiladas. I took the next, sinful step, and had it topped with the poutine(cheese fries with duck gravy). Let’s just say this was a beautiful, wonderful, hot mess. With the poutine added and the mac & cheese side, it was about $ 16. Still, for an amazing foodie experience, I would happily do it again. The mac & cheese deserves special mention — it has a very light, almost fluffy, white sauce and crunchy Panko bread crumbs baked on top. Do yourself a favor & try this. This ain’t gramma’s mac & cheese! One of my companions ordered a plain cheeseburger, well-done. I’m not sure he loved it, but… meat, cheese & mustard… not a lot to judge. My second companion got the Chicken Panini($ 11 or so). The bread was crisp with a nicely grille chicken breast & a succulent slice of ham. She gave it rave reviews. Yes, the burgers are not huge, but they are cooked to order by a real chef who takes pride in his creations. Jack Mac’s is an amazing experience, and I only wish I could visit more frequently so I could try more of his specialties. I have had the pizza in the past & the crust was perfect! If you can find one of their specialty pizzas that meet your taste profile, I strongly suggest it. The come in both personal size and large.

We came back here for dinner last night and I knew I’d be disappointed the second this place was suggested. I got the chicken biscuit again, because it was the only enjoyable part of my experience last time. It didn’t seem as good this time, more dry. I had that and a water. My boyfriend got his meal and a beer. His sister got her meal and two beers. When our waitress brought the check, it was all on one bill. She didn’t ask us if we wanted it separated. There were 3 of us. Do people usually all pay together? But she didn’t come back until there was payment. So we put our three cards down. And then she split the payment in three evenly. I was extremely upset that I had to pay for drinks I didn’t order and paid almost 20 bucks for a sandwich and nothing else. That’s just ridiculous. I can’t justify coming here again. Next time I’ll just tell my group that I’m not hungry
