Bartender was kind of rude to me, the steps down into the rear entrance a bit treacherous, and the music way too loud for a space that has a drop ceiling bar. Seating was limited and organized in a way that made navigating the room challenging. The patrons were mostly girls in skin tight dresses and plaster faces — appeared to be the type of crowd that goes to T&A up the block and around the corner. I personally didn’t fit in, and I didn’t really want to. There are lots of other spaces in deep Ellum for those of us who don’t wear Bebe and four inch heels.

The concept is fine, a conventional Dallas speakeasy that you bring your Uptown friends to when they want to see what Deep Ellum is really all about… but not really. My first High & Tight experience was during the DE mimosa walk, so I was delighted when I walked into a barbershop with clients actively getting cuts and shaves, then led to a concealed door in a wall to a dark bar space and platform stage. The other times I have ventured in were from the back parking lot against Elm, beside Black Swan. It’s absolutely splendid to walk in, grab a glass of infused gin, and listen to earthy music. But, I know exactly what you are whenever I visit on a weekend night. The doorman is placed in the barbershop front, hidden door completely open, making the experience awfully tacky like a failing amusement park. Maybe there is a regulation that states that the doorman must be in front of the door instead of behind it? That must be it, because the charm is immediately lost and it appears fake, like the fake-ness that is much of Dallas. Now, it’s only the weekend that High & Tight emanates this horribleness. I prefer you during the weekdays when you actually feel special. The crowd is thin and the service is marvelous. I can get my Fitz swiftly and peacefully, enjoy music and silent movies without a throng of selfie taking ninnies. Perhaps the weekend bartenders, leisurely making drinks and addressing customers, are rightfully uptight because of this. If you’re odd and abnormal like me, a person that doesn’t need an entire congregation in order to enjoy an establishment, a person that just wants to walk through a damn wall and know that what you have stepped into is only known by few, come here on a weekday. It’s a great place to go to if you’re a gin drinker. Any of the classic gin drinks are good, but you can probably do without the specialty drinks. The Fitz and Great Gatsby are my choices of specialty drinks though, both for the strong gin kick and flower taste of the latter. The Doc Holliday is something that I think only a person with hair on their chest will enjoy. It felt like I was drinking a piece of meat. It felt like I was drinking something wrong, just plain wrong. If you actually like it, let me high five you next time because you are my hero. I know we’re approaching the 20’s of this millennium, but shite, can’t someone come up with an original bar concept that we can credit this decade for? At least come up with a different print that is not plaid. That way, unimpressed and contemptuous people like me can STFU.

I heard rumors of a «speakeasy» in town, and reminiscing on my NY days, I immediately wanted to check it out. NY is full of cute speakeasy spots with good drinks and great ambiance, especially for someone over the loud bar scene. Upon arriving at where this«secret» speakeasy was supposed to be, a gentleman was standing at the entrance to the barbershop and loudly announced that there was a bar in the back if we wanted to come in — –1 point. I mean, I guess it is Dallas, and the secret speakeasy stuff is new. The bar in the back was quite cute. There were a few sofas, tables and chairs to hang out. The drinks were pricy, but in speakeasy fashion — very swanky — +1. This easily could have made it into the rotation of regular hangout spots, until… 10 minutes later, the band came on. I totally dig the secret prohibition thing but adding in country folk, prohibition era music… may be taking it too far. It was comically entertaining at first, but due to the volume of the band and the type of music, I quickly gathered my things to leave. So, if country folk music is your thing, then this may be your spot… you just won’t find me here.

What speakeasy has a band much less one that is so loud you can’t hear yourself think. Wasn’t impressed with the menu cocktails either.

This bar is behind the barbershop. You will have to go through the door to the left of the barbershop to find this place. All the drinks we tried were awesome. The bartenders are really friendly and explained what was in each cocktail. Their recommendations based on what kind of drinks we liked was on point. Can’t wait to try the vapor drink since they sold out of it that night.

Today, drinking is legal, where the hell is the entrance… The bar entrance is tucked away behind the Barbershop. Go through the front door of the barbershop-No password required. All I want is a drink or two. Maybe get your haircut first though. Once you’re in, feel the 21st century new modern and cool vibe for Deep Ellum. If anybody in DFW looking for a different modern drink experience which is way above normal, this place is a must. This speakeasy is a fun game change of pace for Deep Ellum. The drinks, although a bit pricey, are presented well and have great flavor which is made by modern mixologists who muddle, stir, and shake the classics, including gimlets, sours, and Old Fashioneds. Austin along with few other mixology scientists here has already earned some of the leaders in the cocktail movement in Dallas. High & Tight has both traditional bar seating as well as more comfortable couch seating. They have a TV projector and audio visual equipped stage for music bands or it can be used for stand up comic too. Band plays on Thu, Fri&Sat even thou band music is not a speakeasy thing.

I’m very excited to have this bar in my ‘hood. I had heard fun things about it from some friends, and we just happened to hear about a free Jameson event this past Sunday night so a few of us went. You can’t lose on free Jameson drinks, but the atmosphere of this place is really cool. First off — the space is way bigger than I thought. The front room is a barbershop/school. You walk through to the back and there’s the bar area. It’s massive. There’s a lot of seating along the bar, and even though I didn’t venture past my seat I could see couch seating around the stage area where a fun cover band was playing. They have a vapor shot machine that was next to me so for $ 5 I had to try it. Vodka vaporized and inhaled through a straw. Pretty cool. Didn’t really feel the 10 minute buzz the bartenders talked about, but they may have been because of the Jameson. I definitely look forward to checking this place out, and seeing their prohibition style cocktail menu.

I dig the place. Went to a special event they hosted one Sunday night where they offered 4 of their specialty cocktails sans money. Had them all and they were terrific! Once you walk in past the barbershop portion of the place and into the«backroom» bar, you’re transformed into a hip, cool bar that is satisfyingly dark and neatly lit at the same time. They have a nice seating area with couches and a decent-size stage for bands. Dudes behind the bar were super-busy but still quite friendly and accommodating when I was there. I think the place is a good fit for Deep Ellum and kind of occupies a somewhat dormant spot on Main Street now. What’s not to like?

Speakeasy behind a barbershop is a great concept for Deep Ellum. Cannot speak to the quality of their haircuts but can and will rave about their Old Fashion. Instantly one of my favorites in Dallas. Another craft cocktail bar in Dallas on par with Amoury, Parliment & Bolsa. Craftsmanship and attention to detail is shown on all their drink I’ve had. They have live music playing most nights but not a set schedule. From the bands I’ve heard you can tell they like to book good local acts. Jazz band was great. Two entrance, the main being on Main St but you can also access it through the back on Elm St in the parking lot next to Glazed Donuts. Overall 5 stars for their concept and execution on their design for this great Deep Ellum gem.

The epitome of old school meets the quirkiness of deep ellum in this 1920’s style barbershop/speakeasy. Great barbers, cool bar. If you’re tired of chain barbershops that fail to impress, check out High & Tight.

This barbershop and speakeasy will definitely make you feel as if you have stepped back into a snazzier time. New to Deep Ellum and specializing in 1920-inspired drinks, this place is sure to become a favorite to those with high standards in cocktails. You enter into a traditional full-service barbershop, and then ease your way into the brick-exposed back room with a classic bar and live band. A black-and-white silent film was projected onto the wall by the stage during our visit which is just plain genius, if you ask me. My friends and I had a grand time, and I caught myself repeatedly thinking, «This place is dope!» Friendly, attentive staff made getting drinks fast and easy. Since it’s new, the times for the barbershop services are being ironed out – my friend asked for a shave around midnight and was turned away, but we will be back soon – obviously.

This place is great! Between the 2 of us, we tried 4 of the specialty cocktails and they were all delicious. I also tried a vapshot… Yes vaporized alcohol which is something I had never seen before. The bartenders were friendly and quick considering the love that goes into each drink. The overall vibe of this place makes it a great edition to Deep Ellum!
