I’ve gone to both locations for years. To me both were about the same. Both of those locations are no longer and this one used to be on Maple is now relocated to Sylvan Ave. Not too far away but as the old saying goes«out of sight, out of mind». However, I did think about it last week and took a friend with me for dinner. The salsa and chips were delicious. If you like your salsa spicy hot, then you’ll be in love with Herrera’s. Look out for the cheese taco in any combination plate as all it is is a tortilla with queso inside and over the top of it. While on the topic of their queso, it is probably the worst thing on their menu. It is totally lacking of any flavor. I’m not sure what kind of cheese it is but it has no flavor and there was maybe one jalepeno floating around in it. I’ll never order it again. Best bet is their enchilada’s — both the cheese and beef are a nice size and their chili has a wonderful flavor. Our server never came back for refills or even to leave the check. So, on our visit, customer service was extremely lacking.

We had been going to the Herrera’s off of Old Denton for at least 18 years or so and ever since it closed we were looking for the next Herrera’s. We found this one off of Sylvan Ave. and have become regulars again. I want to say that this place is actually better than the one off of Old Denton. The food is always fresh and tasty. The bean soup(which is only served after 6 pm at this location) is always awesome. The salsa is always on point. This place is always busy and hoppin and they also have outdoor seating. The staff are always friendly and courteous. This is our new home.

This place is GREAT! If there is one dish you haven’t tried you must try the Chicken Ranchero! To die for! Plus tel them to chop it up for you as well. And Two Margarita’s will have you feeling WOW! But must say the Chips & Salsa are DOUBLEWOW!

I used to live in the Metroplex and Herrera’s had my wife’s and my business every week indicating what we thought of their food. I was really sad to see that Unilocalers indicated my old favorite was closed. I was so relieved when I saw this location on Unilocal and had to give it a try. This location is much smaller than the old, but it also has outside dining which the old one did not. They also had live music playing in the outside dining area. I walked in the entrance and was immediately greeted by a very nice young lady. I was meeting my best friend from Tyler, and she took me to the table where he was. The chips and salsa were on the table, so I ordered my margarita to try and get caught up to my friend. The chips and salsa were just like what I used to get — so good! The margarita’s were just like I remembered too. The menu was the same, but the prices had gone up. However, this restaurant is still a very good deal. I ordered my old reliable #13 which includes a taco, 2 cheese enchilada’s, rice and beans. Heaven on a plate for TexMex fans. Service was outstanding as usual, and the music outside was the kind that really let you know where you were. It’s all part of the experience. I failed to take a picture of the painting on one interior wall. It is of the original restaurant which was written up in the National Geographic many years ago. When I got home, I told my wife all about the new location. She’s ready for a road trip:)

After the painful news of the closing of the Denton Dr location, some friends and I decided we had to give this spot a try, even though it is a slightly further trek from our abodes in far North Dallas & Plano. So off we go on a beautiful Saturday afternoon down south for a late lunch. It was fairly busy but not overly crowded at our arrival around 100p. We were quickly seated to the left of the entrance, in what felt like a little private«cove» at the front of the building. Compared to the huge warehouse feel of the Denton Dr location, this space is much smaller, but perhaps a little cozier. Lots of brightly colored walls, tile floors and typical Mexican décor. The patio is quite lovely and will be appealing on a Spring or Fall afternoon. Vickie, our cheerful young server was there immediately and chips and salsa delivered promptly. First of all the most important two things about dining Tex-Mex: the chips and salsa; really like the individual containers of salsa. The salsa as always experienced @ Herrera’s varies on each visit; sometime just the perfect amount of heat, other times it will cause for a grab of ice cold water! Today was just perfect for my palate with slight chunkiness, and great flavor. The chips were just okay, not quite meeting my preference of wafer thin, salty and oily, but edible. Next: the margaritas! As usual, prepared just how I like a Top Shelf; enough Grand Marnier to provide that lovely golden color; of course, enough Tequilla as well! Over the top delicious! I wasn’t driving so enjoyed two of these great libations! Various orders around the table; tortilla soup which looked so good with lots of slices of avocado floating on top; a BYO burrito with beans, beef and tons of cheese; an enchilada plate, which was said to be very good and a small order of nachos. I had a small guacamole, soft cheese taco and a sour cream chicken enchilada, my usual order minus a puffed beef taco which would been an overload. Herrera’s makes some of the best soft cheese tacos around, have been enjoying them for years. The sour cream enchilada was also scrumptious as well with tender moist chicken. Creamy, well seasoned guac. Yumilicious! I noticed that Norma, the owner, was quite involved in delivering orders, refilling drinks and busily making sure that all patrons were well cared far. She definitely set an excellent example of outstanding service for all of her staff. And Vickie, followed her lead, noticing we needed beverage refills, chips, salsa, etc. Exemplary service for sure! Okay, why not 5 stars for all the above? No bean soup before 600p! What? Bean soup is why one goes to Herrera’s among many other reasons. Not sure the reason for this, but we did let Vickie & Norma know how disappointed we were. Perhaps if others follow suit, she could reevaluate this decision. The absence of this amazing treat certainly contributed to a less than usual stellar 5 star rating. PLEASE Norma, make this specialty of Herrera’s available at all times! Will we return, probably; I don’t see us taking Herrera’s out of our dining rotation; however, unfortunately due to the location, a 40 minute drive from our part of the world, it won’t be late enough to enjoy that bean soup after 600p. We’re lunchers more than dinner folks. Dark sets in and we are behind closed doors ! :) I’ll watch the web site to see if bean soup is added back to the full menu!

We were regulars at the Josey location and very excited to see the downtown location open. We’ve been a few times since it opened and while it wasn’t the same as the old(no bean soup as you sat down) it was still good and a great location. We took some friends who had never been Friday night and were very disappointed to see a very small menu and even the drinks were limited to small plastic cups. They blamed a convention but the place was half empty. Service was horrible to top. The waiter could answer no questions and had to come back multiple times to correct his mistakes.

So I’m basing this review off of our first attempt here. We arrived and were seated on the patio. This place is great! I’m excited for this group of restaurants and extra options added to downtown eating. We were given these wonderful paper menus with no direction. Are there entrees? Is there… Anything? We were given no direction. Just seated as you would be at a typical restaurant. Drink were great! Sangria swirl and michelada. We got the queso. Yay! Hope things work out here.

I came here for lunch. Prices are reasonable, especially the lunch specials. I ended up ordering the steak fajita plate Friday lunch special for $ 9.95. Initially they bring out customary chips and salsa. The chips could use more salt. The salsa is pretty plain, but quite spicy. I like how they bring the salsa in a little pitcher that allows you to pour the salsa yourself. Also, the drink sizes are very large. These two things ensure that you are well taken care of even if the waitress hasn’t come by in a while. The fajitas were authentic and tasted good. Probably not the highest quality of fajita meat but it tasted good. The tortillas were good/authentic. I sat inside and the atmosphere is pretty mediocre but the outside patio area looks awesome. Sure the chairs are typical uncomfortable metal chairs but I love the pergolas and the tile floor and the expansiveness of it all. I don’t think this place will blow you away but it’s a good spot if you are looking for some cheap authentic Tex-Mex.

Huge menu with tons of options. Very helpful and friendly waitstaff. Good comes out really quickly and you have chips and darn good salsa to much on from the moment you sit down. I had an enchilada plate and it was really good Tex-Mex with great prices! It came with soup too! I will be back for sure!

I’m very glad I spotted this place on my way to Trinity Groves the other day. The BF and I popped in here on a Monday night. I ordered the rupert plate which is cheese enchiladas with rice beans, a chalupa and a guacamole tostada. My BF got the 2C, which is beef enchiladas and a beef taco. Each dish came with a small bowl of bean soup. I loved this soup. It had beans and bacon and cilantro. We each had a margarita and our bill was around $ 20. You can’t beat that. Our server was really sweet too. Will definitely put this place on our rotation of dinner spots.

I won’t go to this restaurant anymore. The menu is very poorly design. Our order was delivered in 2 parts: 15 minutes from each other, 2 of the 5 people in our party had half of their orders waiting on the table waiting for the rest of the food to arrive. The servers didnt know what we ordered. The beef burrito is a tortilla with meat folded in a taco shape, it has nothing else inside. The food lacked flavour. The complementary bean soup was delicious though.

We’ve been going to Herrera’s for over 30 years now and the newest location is their 4th and best version(though I greatly miss it being on Maple — it’s much more out of the way now). And call me old fashioned, but it’s still my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in DFW. Everything is done well, the service is normally very efficient, but most of all it’s the burritos. They are unlike any other burrito in town, made with huge chunks of quality tender beef. I get them every time. And so should you.

My family and I love this place. The food is super, the people are friendly and welcoming and the prices are good. Herrera’s has been our go too Mexican food place for almost 15 years. Though 3 location changes, it is still a special place. umm, now I’m hungry!

For good ol’ fashioned Tex-Mex, this might be your place. They’ve been around apparently since God was knee high to a grasshopper. This fits the bill of predictable and good rather than stellar and exciting. Salsa ran hot and a bit runny when we were there. I had two enchiladas: spinach and sour cream chicken. The sour cream chicken was very good. Service and food were quick.

I wish I could give ZERO stars. Went in there about 6:30pm on New Years night, not the Eve, but the night. There were two tabes of guests. There were not busy. We were told by the group of employees gathered around the cash register to sit anywhere. we chose a booth and waited about 6 minutes for drink orders and menus to be taken and brought. That was the last we were seen by anyone, as they were all too busy talking at the register. After 20 minutes we got up to leave. As we walked by the group of employees, we were told bye as we headed for the door. Epic fail. Will never and I mean never go back there. EVER. We went to the Herreras on denton rd. Was awesome.

This was my first time to this location and I was blown away! The food at this location seems to have more flavor than the others. Place is nice and the service is great. My partner had the Bryana plate and he said it was the best beef burrito he’s ever had. I had the shredded chicken chimichanga with Ranchero sauce and it was so so so so f’ng yummy! I don’t mind the drive if it means I get this type of quality every time. So good!

Avoid this place for dinner. It’s overpriced. I had the talapia fish plate. Don’t get that. It was just a boiled fished slapped with a plain red sauce. It was super bland and fishy. The mixed veggies tasted like boiled water and the rice was undercooked. Their salsa was super hot. I wouldn’t come back.

So I decided to try some new Mexican restaurant… and what a mistake that was… This restaurant not only has bad service but food I ordered was horrible! !!! The chicken soup tasted like menudo, their rice was over cooked and dried out. The tilapia fish plate tasted like sardine, steamed veggies were undercooked! Please stay away from this place if service and food are this bad can’t imagine their health food rating… just horrible!

Best sour cream anything! Guacamole tostadas are always fresh. Chips are sometimes a little stale, but most of the time they are great. Hot sauce is the consensus family favorite. Favorite plates are the #20(3 beef burritos with sour cream sauce), Briyana(1 beef burrito, 1 chicken enchilada both with sour cream sauce and 1 guacamole tostada) and Nora’s(1 beef taco, 1 guacamole tostada, 1 chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce, rice & beans). Notice a trend here?

Somehow the last location never really felt right to me. The last few times I went, the bean soup and enchiladas were subpar. Well, I tried out the new location and it was fantastic… it seemed very similar to how I remembered the old location on maple. The salsa was great and the soft cheese tacos were good as well. I usually substitute double rice at Mexican places, but the refried beans here are significantly better than your standard tex mex offerings. Will definitely be back to try the patio when it cools down a bit. One note, I don’t believe they are allowing dogs outside yet.

Great new location. Nice roomy patio. Sat inside on our first visit and their margaritas have improved from the old location. Really good and you could taste the tequila. We had combo plates, with an assortment of tacos, sour cream chicken enchiladas, cheese enchiladas and guacamole and fajitas. All of it was typical tex mex, but tasty and hot. The fajitas had really nice tender, smoky flavor. The complimentary bean soup is always delicious! It’s a big place and we didn’t have to wait on a Friday night for a table. Only negative is the two single bathrooms. If the place is busy, there’s a wait. And it’s in a middle hallway with quite a bit of traffic. But overall the place has a nice atmosphere. Food is hot, drinks are good, atmosphere was fun and the price is right.

Oh yay I’m glad Herreras is up and running. I was quite disappointed the location on maple didn’t work out. I knew they were going to try and move to another new building off maple and the deal never went through, none the less this place is great! The parking lot is small and its shared with a barbershop, but this location compared to the last is a lot nicer and seemed bigger. As usual, the service was very attentive and friendly. Chips and salsa came out quick and the salsa was great. I forgot the name of my dish. But it was grilled chicken with Monterrey cheese melted on top served with either rice/beans or mixed veggies. I opted for the veggies but immediately regretted it once my order came out. The chicken was a nice portion and was decently seasoned, a little dry but it was still okay. The veggies on the other hand. They were just frozen veggies re heated; yuck, I didn’t even eat more than 2 pieces :(. For $ 13.95 Id expect at least fresh veggies. Oh well. The soup of beans they serve complimentary with dinner was pretty good though. All in all, it’s pretty decent tex-mex. This is more of a 3.5 star but it’s worth the extra bump up. I’ll be back for my favorite, the Selena. Chicken enchiladas topped with a mole sauce.

Welcome Back Larry and family. We missed you while you were closed. I had my first breakfast last weekend and you did not disappoint. In my opinion, Herrera’s is the best texmex in dallas. The menu can be a bit overwhelming(it’s huge) but the truth is, you can’t go wrong! From fajitas, to enchiladas, to burritos, everything is truly superb. Also top notch complimentary chips and salsa. Also, a very friendly and accommodating staff. The same people have worked there forever which I think says something about the business’s loyalty! I’d say my ONLY sadness(not worth docking a star for) is that as a resident of uptown it used to he so convenient to get to when at the maple location. The new location is great but much harder for us to get to unfortunately.

This place has the most beautiful patio! The inside feels like a true Mexican restaurant. The food is exactly the same as it was on Maple, FANTASTIC! I’m so glad they open again! It’s not even but a few minutes from where is was originally located. I missed my Jenny’s Special! Best Tex-Mex in Dfw! Now can’t wait til Sunday so I can get my Menudo!
