Walked in. Walked out. Pass. Definitely MISLED on this place because it has 5 star reviews on Unilocal. First sign, only 2 cars in the parking lot at noon on a Thursday. Second sign, we walked in and waited and waited and tried to find a person. The lights were low and we started to think maybe they were not open for business because their was no smell of food or any food visible. After calling out, «Hello?», a woman emerged from the back. She did not have a smile or a personality(bless her heart). She let us know they WERE open for business, but the following items listed on the food board are NOT available. Just dark and felt dirty and uninviting. We made our polite excuses and left. Place gave us the shivers! I don’t know what’s happened to this place in the last several months, but it didn’t rate at all. Steer clear.

I wish I could give 10 stars. This is a must do if you are a homesick southerner or want a taste of REAL food. Im a trucker(all of the lower continental 48) so I have the opportunity to try food across our beautiful country and am sorry I have wasted time eating anywhere else(with a few exceptions) and just now found this place(Thank you Unilocal). All those copy cat fusion joints, froofy Four Seasons wannabes, and tasteless imagination gridlocked franchises across the country can go take a hike. I’ve found my food home and the place where the people make you feel at home. I was reared in the south(some say raised but my English teacher mama and granny would correct me and no they aren’t the same person, you southernhater!) but I digress… Q: What do southerners call soul food? A: Food This place serves REAL food. I had ox tails on rice with gravy, black eyed peas, real fried okra(not that previously battered frozen flavorless nugget stuff you get elsewhere) and the most delicious cornbread muffins I ever tasted after my granny passed. Moist and fluffy with a tiny bit of crisp on that top outer edge and a touch of sugar — not too much, not too little. The meat was falling off the bone and full of flavor and the seasonings used in everything I had made me want to just hold each bite in my mouth a while to enjoy it longer. Im not really a dessert person(okay yeah thats a lie, just shush your mouth) but another customer said to try the cake. She was right. I believe the cake choices will vary but if you get a chance, get the orange cake with the glaze on top. It looked like it was baked in an angel food pan and trust me, an angel would love this too. First taste told me it was orange, but then an extra nudge of orange zest combined with the beautiful glaze on top kicked the delicate flavor into that part of my brain that turned me into a cake-feeding frenzied goblin. Had to get some to go. And yes, I ordered another plate to go for supper. Ribs. Oh my. Ribs. Yes, ribs. Real ribs. Not those off the side of a starving critter — REALMEATYRIBS. Delicious ribs. Mmmmm ribs. Cabbage done right, and yams cooked the right way too. The lady in charge was so sweet she made me feel like I had been coming there all my life. The whole experience was a nice escape from the rest if the world. Ok. I believe I’m going to have to go back again today. See you there! :)
