2016 Unilocal 100 Challenge Review #27 I love burgers! I do not do fast food burgers, call me a snob! I prefer eating a burger that is made with premium, fresh and well-prepared ingredients. This spot is located in the Casa Linda area at the corner of Buckner(Loop 12) and Garland Road in Dallas near White Rock Lake. It’s a simple concept. They have a picture menu, simple. They offer 12 ingredients to choose from to top your burger, simple. Bonus: they have a lucky 13 ingredient that changes daily. It’s an assembly line where you tell them what you want on their burger. It all fits better underneath the crown of a dugg-out bun which really makes for a neater burger that doesn’t spill out as you eat it like most loaded burgers tend to do. Their fries were a perfect accompaniment. I did not try any shakes though they look as though they looked very good. They spin them in house versus a shake machine, I believe. At first, I didn’t understand why they offered bread pudding given that burgers with buns are the staple of the menu but then it makes sense that they are not wasting all of that«dugg» out bread from the buns. Makes perfect sense and I love that they do not waste the food. Didn’t try it but maybe one day I will. All in all, I will definitely be back. Customer service was top notch. Everyone I interacted with took pride and elation to serve and craft the burgers which definitely added to the experience.

This is a good burger joint. Our first time there was a bit confusing. The guy taking our order didn’t introduce us to how they do things, but it’s easy to figure out. Later, we saw the owner showing new patrons their ordering system. I wish we’d gotten her. Nevertheless, I was impressed by the the freshness and appealing look of their toppings. Once we’d built out burgers they were out in a few minutes. The fries weren’t amazing, but they were definitely well seasoned and great portion sizes. The burger was big, tasty, and had a great charbroiled crust on it. The tomatoes were amazing and their crispy onions added texture, but not extra grease. I can definitely see myself coming back to this place. It was a great burger.

Have been here twice since it opened. I must say the burgers and fries are quite tasty. As you may have read in other reviews, they add the fixings to the burger as you move through the line — like going through Luby’s or something. Why three stars? There was a couple ahead of me and a couple behind me. Both couples got more fixings on their burgers than I did. I can honestly give a rats butt about the amount of stuff in the burger but what I truly despise is when there is a very apparent discrepancy with the service. Perhaps, next time I will come with my African American friends so they can order a bigger better burger for me.

On the Albertson side of Grand. I’M A BURGERPERSON. I have to put it on my best Burger list. It’s a build you own Burger style place. Not the typical lettuce/tomato on bun Burger. They put their own spin on these items and it was very delicious– have to say that also. You have choices in special dressings that they have to a variety of toppings that only increases the flavor. The fries have a great taste as well with a great seasoning to them– why hide it with ketchup. MUSTTRYIT. Service is as follows: walk in– order– pay– get your drink if you paid for one– sit– they bring your food– you eat– you leave satisfied. PERIOD Tables, Chairs, Booth is all you need. The friendly smile was a bonus. It’s not the biggest restaurant but what it lacks in space you won’t even notice when you start chewing. EXTRAINFORMATION: Four guys went into business together and wanted just to create a simple Burger. Nothing simple about the taste– trust me. They been at this location about 13 to 14 months. Also in contruction at another location. I want to say Plano(trying to remember what the lady said. The first question I ask was-was it a family owned business. Answer I got– No it not family owned but it like we are a family. QUOTE

First visit based on magazine recommendations. Interesting idea to scoop out the bun for the fixings. Lots of stuff to choose from as far as dressing, etc. Very prompt service during weekday lunch. I will have to try their new store in Plano, TX in a few months when built.

I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 5 years as a server and bartender, mostly in Uptown, and personally know that this establishment has solid staff from top to bottom. As for customer service, there is no better suited group of people to make you feel at home. As for the food it’s equivalent in quality. We were the last customers and every bite was fresh and delicious. These folks are attempting to create euphoria in edible form and are succeeding Dugg Burger’s is clearly well tuned these guys know what their doing. Highly recommended.

About $ 10 for everything. Drink, Fries, Burger. The food is good it kind of reminds me of LA Burger. You get to put your Burger together somewhat like chipoltle.

We stopped in after a great day at the Dallas Arboretum for a late lunch. It was our first visit and the server was very helpful and asked if we wanted to taste their Dugg sauce and spicy ranch. We both ordered burgers and a bread pudding to go. The burgers were well seasoned and tasty. I added the Dugg sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, bacon, grilled mushrooms and onions. The Lucky 13 item was candied jalepenos. Decided to pass on those. Our burgers were delicious and filling. I would have liked to try the fries but it was a good thing I didn’t because it was all I could do to finish my burger. Later that night we split the bread pudding. It’s made from the bread scooped out of the hamburger bun top. Who knew it would be so good? It had a very carmelly tasting sauce. Yum! This is a great burger joint and I’ll be back!

Someone help me; I think I’ve fallen in love. This is officially my favorite burger place outside of Keller’s and my grandpa’s house. If you took an old school burger, mixed it with a new school burger, added the customization element of Chipotle without the ecoli, you would have this bad boy. This place, in my mind, is what a burger should be. It should be a balance of its ingredients. There’s innovation while paying ode to tradition. This is one of the best deals for the quality that I’ve ever seen for a burger. Craft beer, burger, fry combo for 13 bucks! Any toppings you want without additional cost. The value wasn’t the only great thing here. The customer service was spectacular. This place was very Texan. It oozed Southern hospitality and home cooked food with a mix of love for locals. They use deliciously toasted buns from Empire Bakery. All three burgers I’ve tried here(taste of my grandpa’s and two of my own) have been balanced in flavor. No one ingredient outweighs another, Having grilled jalapeño and grilled onion is a huge bonus. Bonus for a hot head like me, they also have a habanero salsa you can add to it. The fries were also great. They’re salty with just a tiny hint of sugar. They even gave me a side of cholula upon request. It’s rare that I find a burger place that doesn’t disappoint. This includes disappointment from popular places like Hopdoddy, Off-site Kitchen(probably the best out of these others), Twisted Root, and Goodfriend’s. The icing on the cake? Or maybe caramel would be a better word. Their bread pudding that had a ton of dark caramel sauce on top. My grandpa LOVED it. This is coming from a man who’s not big on sweets. He took a bite of it and said he that must be the best sauce he’s ever had.

This place is relatively new in the same shopping center as Albertsons and I’m s happy we tried it out. The menu is simple with the option to buy just the burger, a combo with a drink, or a combo with an alcoholic drink. What makes their concept so great is that they did it the inside of their buns then let you add as many ingredients as you want all for the same price. They have everything from lettuce and cherry tomatoes to fried onions and homemade sauces. The staff was friendly and the food came fast. Can’t wait to come back.

Great concept. Burger was great. Bun was nice and soft. Fries were good, a bit on the salty side. Bread pudding was ok. If you are a beef eater, I would recommend it. Here is my issue, I am not a ground beef eater, and they have no other patty option(turkey, chicken, veggie, etc). So, I ordered the Duggless, which is a burger without the burger, just the toppings and cheese. And I will say, it was good. However, the cost is the same. They charge $ 3 for an extra patty, but still $ 7 with or without meat. So, hopefully they will get another patty option… For now, If I am going to spend $ 7, I want the turkey/chicken and will go elsewhere.

We came here after taking the kids to the movies. The place is very well kept up, and the place overall is very clean. As a first timer, the staff walked the family, and I through the process of ordering, and making your own burger. Yes, this joint is simple… you just order your burger, and then you start your masterpiece by adding all of the sides that they offer. I only wish that they would have more options for the Vegetarians like myself. All I had was a salad as an option. Don’t get me wrong, I had the same options as the rest of the family. And I got to build my salad from the toppings that they’re offering for the burgers. But, I only wish that I had the option to build my own Veggie or Black Bean type of burger. That there would have been awesome. Maybe they can have this consideration as a possible option?! Note: The Staff was outstanding! Note: Try their Bread Pudding, it’s GOOD!!! Note: If you’re into local brewery type of beers, then you should come and visit this place out. I feel that their beers would compliment your burgers very well. I know that some of my buddies are already making plans to come visit this cool lil joint after our cycling runs. :) Overall, the family, and I were very pleased with the great tasting food, and awesome service we received. I will definitely bring back my family to eat some great tasting burgers.

Dugg Burger is a BYOB(build your own burger) fast casual restaurant. What I love about Dugg Burger is that they don’t charge you by topping. While there aren’t any crazy toppings, they do have all the toppings one would like on a burger — bacon, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, caramelized onion, sautéed mushrooms, etc. They also have the standard condiments(i.e. BBQ, ketchup, mustard) and even a special house sauce that looks like ‘chipotle mayo’ or ‘big mac’ kind of sauce. What I like about their lettuce option is that it’s actually a salad tossed in a vinaigrette, which gives the lettuce a nice flavor. To make space for all the toppings, they ‘dig’ part of the meat from the top bun out to create a hole that will keep the add-ons snug. Keep in mind that Dugg Burger is more of a casual burger joint and less of a gourmet one. Expect the patties to be on the thinner side with minimal pink. Despite this, the burger came hot, fresh and delicious with all the toppings. $ 7 can get you a burger, but $ 13 can you get a burger, side of fries and a can of beer or wine — now that’s a deal you can’t beat. I recommend getting this deal as the fries are tasty too. It’s thin, crispy and nicely salted!

The best part of the Dugg Burger experience is when there is nothing let to eat! YUM! Great Burger, service atmosphere & attitude!

LOVE the toppings they offer. They let you choose whatever toppings you want to put on your burger and they include Carmelized onions, fried onions, mushrooms, jalepenos, and a few more! The quality of how they cook these toppings are pretty good. I got the burger and fries($ 10). I like the concept that they dig out the bun so you can fit more toppings. They have great sauce options with the dugg sauce, chipotle something, and bbq sauce. The dugg and bbq sauce made my burger even tastier! The owner was also very sweet with going around asking how everything was and making good conversation. I also LOVED the music they were playing. I’m talking the XX, franz Ferdinand, Vance joy, just great indie and alternative rock music.

We were greeted immediately upon walking in and they explained how it all worked. They were clearly passionate about the restaurant and that was reflected in both the food and service. We each got a meal and tried the bread pudding made from the hunk of bread they scoop from your burger bun. Yum! So indulgent. All around great flavors. We will be back!

The Dallas burger scene is arguably one of the strongest in the nation, and even with seasoned competition like Off-Site Kitchen, Maple + Motor, and Uncle Über’s coming together with refined newbies like Rodeo Goat’s Dallas location and Luscher’s, Dugg Burger has got some serious attention as of late. After giving Dugg a shot recently I have nothing ill to say about what is a very good concept, but a weak patty makes it such that I can’t place Dugg in the upper echelon of Dallas Burgers(documented here: ) Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Fast casual and very chic with a rustic atmosphere and fancy dishes for their numerous topping options, Dugg Burger definitely caters to the Lakewood crowd. You can get your burger to go or take a seat and have it delivered, but either way you’re in for a comfortable experience and good service. There’s a television showing the news, but I will say that Dugg doesn’t have the sports bar vibe akin to Rodeo Goat or Hopdoddy, so you may aggregate elsewhere if you’re wanting to catch a sporting event. For a casual night out though? The atmosphere at Dugg is perfect. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? The single burgers at Dugg aren’t huge, but at $ 7.00 a pop there’s some good value here as you can probably see in my picture below. In line with their concept of hollowing out the tops of their buns to fit more toppings, you can expect to get a bit more than your standard burger, which boosts the value proposition even more given these burgers are priced in line with those at Hopdoddy, etc. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I need to start out by saying that the concept of Dugg Burger is a brilliant one that should certainly be replicated elsewhere if it isn’t somehow proprietary. I’m sure you get it, but they hollow out the top bun and stuff it with toppings, which they pitch as sort of the real upside to their burgers. I’ll say outright that this works exceptionally well, and even better so given that the quality and quantity of their toppings are excellent. Grilled mushrooms, the cleverly marketed jalapenos of the day, pepperjack cheese and lettuce graced my burger, and all that was needed was the perfect patty to make this a really solid burger experience. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, as the heart and soul of my burger — the patty, was a real letdown. I can’t fully sort out if you can deduce this from the picture, but my burger patty was small, overcooked, and lacked any real flavor of its own, which is among the primary means I use to gauge the quality of a burger. Some conjunctive upside to Dugg Burger’s excellent concept would in theory be putting some of the toppings in the top burger bun to make room for a good hefty patty, and without this being the case you’re left with really just another burger that depends on it’s toppings for flavor and uniqueness. Dugg is off to the right start, but they need some refinement when it comes to the meats. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Dugg is going to be around for a while, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some more locations pop up. That being the case, they should know this: the patty makes the burger, and you won’t achieve legitimate acclaim on the Dallas burger stage without a patty that can stand on it’s own. No Star Granted.

Based on positive Unilocal reviews and proximity to our house I decided to give this place a try for lunch on a rainy Saturday. The place was not very busy. I found the ordering system a bit odd but it turned out ok. You basically choose a plain burger, your cheese, and then whether you want a drink and fries. The burger comes out plain and then you add what you want to build your own unique concoction. Think salad bar. I like the concept. I wish you could order your burger cooked a certain way because mine was cooked more than I usually prefer, but I did like the crusty outside. I basically got all of the toppings with fries and a drink for $ 10. Not bad. The burger was tasty but I think needed some salt. It was a good burger. The restaurant has a modern feel and is clean. I have a feeling that I will return.

Our new favorite burger place in Dallas. The service is fast and friendly. The burger are so good. I love the dugg sauce and the grape tomatoes and lettuce with dressing. I usually go pretty basic with my burger, the ingredients mentioned above, some heavenly Carmel iced onions and peppers if the are spicy that day. Great filling burger. My husband will sometimes spend days thinking about what he wants on his burger for our regular Wednesday night visit. He always gets two patties and piles it hight with cheddar, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions strings and LOTS of bacon. I have 5o admit it looks pretty tasty. The fries have a wonderful(but light) seasoning on them. They wouldn’t share what it was but I really liked it. I’m usually too full from my burger to finish them though.
