Ordered beef brisket and mentioned I didn’t want any black or charred edges, wanted the soft un burnt part. The guy gave the cutter instructions, but i still wound up with burnt meat that I couldn’t even eat it all.

I have been going to this location since I was a child. I can honestly say that I will never return because although the service was OK the portion size was ridiculous. I also noticed that my usual side which was the loaded baked potato casserole looked brown and did not have not a piece of bacon that was visible or cheese that was visible. The pecan pie’s were about a third of the normal size they typically are. The gentleman that was cutting the meat did not appear to care that I was concerned about the small portions. I did not see who else he served so I cannot judge if this was now the normal amount. if the franchise owner is having difficulty keeping the doors open them they should go ahead and close them because I don’t appreciate being penalized for being a faithful customer. I will now no longer go to this location or any other as there is far too much competition in the area to even have to deal with this.

The family loves this location. Free ice cream. Great bbq. I think it is better for the price than many other bbq spots. Especially for the entire family we buy the value meals. We also buy the gift cards at Sams which also makes it a little more affordable.

HELLO everyone! I’m T.k. New to the area. I was craving some excellent soul food. During my search, I came across«Dickey’s bbq pit». The atmosphere was very inviting, very clean and food along with customers service was 4.5 stars!!! I will be back… ;-)

Great food but every time I go in here I get upset about the customer service and the problems are consistently some different every time. Not sure how one place can get so many things wrong.

Not the best BBQ in Dallas, but they have been around for a long time. They are good in a pinch.

Both Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse and Spring Creek Barbecue are superior versions of Dickey’s. All have the same food served buffet style, even meat-by-the-pound and take-out. «Restaurant Impossible!» to the rescue! I can’t imagine the kitchen when the public space looks this dark and dingy. Don’t take a date here unless you want to break up. Bacon was swimming in my green beans yet they were tasteless. The moderate to high prices reflect large portions of meat at this buffet. Everyone gets free ice cream but it’s grainy and tastes of petroleum. Dickey’ is a franchise so each location should be reviewed. Unilocal lists this location as «Lower Greenville,» neighborhood, but it is «Knox-Henderson» area.

This place used to be OK but it has really dropped in quality lately and yesterday was the last time I’ll be eating there. Not because of the dry food but because of the roaches that were running around on the floor. It’s been a while since I’ve seen roaches in an actual restaurant but these guys where grabbing trays and standing in line.

A great place for BBQ in this part of Dallas. Still has the best flavor of its branches. Parking is easy except on the rushes. I’ve been going here since the early 90’s. Although it seems the staff changes a lot, the guy who has been taking the order and cutting the meat has been there for years. The sides taste better at this location. It has the old Texas BBQ joint feel, but not as smokey and greasy as some. The big plus is no matter how long the line is, this place gets food in your hands quickly.(Faster than some of the drive throughs). Ask for the moist sliced beef. Almost no need for the sauce. Kids love this place as they have self serve soft serve ice cream in small cones. Hungry? Go here.

Manager’s Special is $ 9.99 for three meats, two sides and a roll. An unheard of value in the BBQ world. Consistently delicious, clean olé-timey place with very friendly staff. Come get chopped brisket(use the included roll to make a little BBQ sammy), pork ribs, and jalapeño/cheddar sausage. Baked potato casserole is sinful. $ 10.81 out the door, and free soft-serve ice cream to boot. You can’t beat that.

Holy cow. When it comes to quick and easy BBQ that’s ready to be carried out the door when you arrive, Dickeys has it down! They have the best ribs and the best potato salad. Yummy. However, beware of the breakfast. Stay far away.

Coming from my gluten free, vegan, organic world in LA, this was EXACTLY what I had in mind for my first lunch in Texas. This place is SUPER casual… cafeteria style ordering and no ambiance to speak of, but when you walk in to BBQ joint and you immediately see at least 5 people that weigh over 300 lbs, you KNOWYOU’VESTRUCKGOLD! Add to that, the free soft serve at the end of your meal. LOVEDICKEY’s!

We get takeout from Dickey’s more frequently than I’d like to admit. It’s not horrible, but it’s definitely not the kind of barbecue place you’d bring an out-of-towner to to show off. Let’s start with the good. Their sausage is decent and their sauce, while nothing special, is good enough. Brisket is also decent. Ribs are not bad. Baked potato casserole and dill cream potato salad are fine(you getting my just-above-mediocre vibe here?). Their regular potato salad is kind of gross. Sort of like mashed potato salad, but in a not awesome way. The sandwiches, while(again) not bad, are a terrible deal moneywise. If you get a regular-sized sandwich, it is tiny, doesn’t fill you up, and costs more than it should. If you go here, the one– or two-meat plate is the way to go(each comes with two sides and a roll). The one-meat plate is enough to fill me up. Could it be cheaper, considering the quality? Probably. This shouldn’t be your first choice for barbecue in Dallas, but it’s «A-OK» as a backup.

I’ve been seeing advertisements for Dickey’s $ 2.00 barbecue chicken sandwich on Mondays, so I thought it was worth a try for that price. I ordered the special Big Barbecue Chicken Sandwich, as well as a Big Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwich and a side of their original potato salad(rather than the dill potato salad). The potato salad was exceptionally creamy and whipped like mashed potatoes. In fact, I suspect they use the same potato base for both the potato salad and their baked potato casserole. Dickey’s menu says that all of their barbecue sandwiches come«dressed with pickles, onions, and barbecue sauce.» When I unwrapped my order at home, I was disappointed to find only meat inside of a plain sesame seed bun. No pickles, no onions. I decided to start by trying each of the sandwiches without sauce. With the chicken, I could taste a nice char from the grill. The meat was sliced fairly thick, so it was a little dry. The pulled pork sandwich didn’t have much smoke to it at all, but had a decent flavor regardless. The sauce itself was a slightly sweet tomato-based sauce, but really had no heat or flavor to it outside of the tomatoes. I guess I should have opted for the spicy barbecue sauce instead. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is perfect if you only have $ 2.00 to spare for lunch, or if you’re catering a child’s birthday party. Other than that, there’s really no reason to go here. UPDATE(February 6, 2013): About two weeks ago, I received a message on from the manager at Dickey’s. She apologized for my disappointing dining experience, and asked for my contact information so that she could«have [my] issues addressed.» I replied back right away and gave her my mailing address. To date, I have yet to receive any further contact from Dickey’s. It looks like they weren’t that concerned after all.

I’m sure my taste buds are biased by the amazing food I had on my trips to Dallas(Good2Go tacos, Maple and Motor, Velvet taco right next door, Hopdoddy’s, Lockhart, Mi Cocina, Bubba’s)… but I was disappointed in Dickey’s. On Unilocal,it seems the food quality differs at each Dickey’s location. But we were nearby this one and decided to take advantage of their Unilocal deal: free ice cream. NOTE: This is misleading and annoyed me because ice cream is free for everyone — I felt tricked when I showed my phone to the cashier to claim the offer. She was somewhat confused and then pointed to a soft serve machine behind her. «Everyone gets free ice cream back there.» Pulled Pork BBQ — So dry, I couldn’t eat more than a bite. Pork shoulder is difficult to dry out so I wondered how long this was sitting out. Brisket — edible but also not as moist as Lockhart’s… not even close. Potato salad with dill — okay… nothing to write home about.

Dickey’s is a reliable source for a moderately priced lunch. The chicken and beef are both good. The sauce is good, though a little sweet for my taste. The iced tea is always good. I appreciate the healthy sides — caesar, cucumber, and broccoli salads — but I miss the blackeyed peas that somehow vanished from the menu about 6 months ago. However, while I know traditionalists will disagree, this location really looks its age. I don’t find this charming, rather it looks poorly maintained, or worse. The aging cyan artwork, the terribly low ceiling, the 1950s wood paneling, all combine to make this a not wonderful eating experience. Certainly this is not somewhere that I would take a guest. I noticed on the last visit that all of the customers were old. Really old. Dying in the next 10 years old. So I’d recommending stepping up your game if you want to be in business 10 years from now. Just sayin’.

Okay, so I only have the Dickey’s that’s tucked away in a convenience store on McKinney to compare to this location. I have to say that even though this is a full fledge restaurant I wasn’t as impressed with this place as I am with the one inside the Texaco. I came through here about 8:30 on a Tuesday night. I was thinking about eating inside, but when I ordered my usual baked potato with chopped beef the guy who took my order pretty much decided for me that it was going to be to-go. Well okay then. I did realize they close at 9, so they were probably trying to get me out since there were only a few costumers inside that were almost all done eating. A really nice girl rang me up and I was on my way out the door. When I got home I noticed that the potato was not assembled. It had the chopped beef, but I had to add the cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon bits and BBQ sauce. WTF? It’s not that big of a deal, but there’s something about getting the potato to go and it having time to marinate in all the toppings by the time I get home to eat it. The cheese has melted and the BBQ sauce has soaked into the meat. Yum. Guess I’ll stick to the good old guys at the Dickey’s gas station location from now on.

Cheap good BBQ. Disgustingly fattening sides — like baked potatoe casserole complete with bacon and sour cream. Sides are self serve so you can pack on the calories. Free self serve ice cream. B U R P. Meats to go by the pound are a good deal.

In my family, we have a Sunday afternoon tradition where we wake up, walk the Katy Trail, and then immediately eat at Dickie’s BBQ Pit. My step-dad gets iced tea, water, and meat. My mom– same deal. I get a baked potato(vegetarian). It’s huge and bland and kinda dry– enter the sour cream, chives, and butter. But I don’t come to Dickie’s for the dry spuds. I come for the free ice cream! It’s delicious. And free. You can eat as much as you want! It makes me so happy! And, you know, if you eat it right after a work out, it’s practically zero calories. Also, it’s not really ice cream– it’s ice milk– so it’s crystally and heavenly. It’s my favorite dessert in Dallas. It just is such a joyous experience for my taste buds. Another plus? Kids eat free on Sundays. I don’t have any kids, that I know of, but someday– I’ll bring ‘em here. They’ll be veg-heads like me and will graciously consume the dry potatoes and ice milk and love it! Their full menu is available on line. They have a lot of meats, beans, potatoes– baked, au gratin, mashed with stuff in them– veggies. Good stuff. Don’t expect greatness, just some humble BBQ animals and freakin’ sweet ice milk stuff.
