I finally made it to Dallas City Market, and surprisingly, my arbitrary 3-star review the first time was right on the money. Walking inside, it’s a little depressing. It’s like a less vibrant EatZi’s. I’m no fan of EatZi’s, but at least it has a festive, European market feel. Dallas City Market feels more like a cafeteria, and the stark atmosphere isn’t helped much by the lack of customers. They had lots of appetizing selections, but not as much variety as EatZi’s(or so it seemed). Pricing is about the same as EatZi’s. I got a half-chicken(half-chicken!!) dinner with two sides and a roll for $ 8.99. It’s more expensive than cooking, but it’s cheaper than eating at a restaurant. That was enough food to last me two meals, so an average of under $ 5 per meal. They also have an interesting selection of wines — stuff you don’t see in grocery stores, or even some liquor stores. It looks hand-selected and intriguing. I wasn’t in the market(ha! funny pun! ok sorry) for a bottle, but if you’re looking for a wine that you or your friends haven’t tried before, stop by and scan the shelves at Dallas City Market. They also sell wines by the glass if you’re eating in. This is a good spot if you’re looking for a quick replacement for a home-cooked meal. I’m not sure why it’s not as buzzing as EatZi’s, since aside from the décor, it’s practically the same thing.(Maybe people really are that superficial… haha.) Anyway, I’d say it’s at least worth checking out… especially if it’s more conveniently located for you than EatZi’s.

i wish dfw had more spots like this. reminds me of those small stores you can find in nyc — get well prepared food fast. great place to pick up dinner if you don’t feel like cooking… good wine selection too.
