5 Stars for a more than accurate representation of Southside Chicago chicken. Only Chicago foodies will truly get this. I am not saying this is the best chicken in the country… This is the best Harold’s Chicken I have had in YEARS. And yes, it is better than 90% of the recipe skimping Harold’s Chicken Shacks in Chicago right now. The owners are purists. They get it. They really get it! Best gizzards I have ever had. Fresh, true Chicago fried chicken. To all of my friends out here from«The City». They do it here… it’s like home. Now I just need a «G Pan» from«Uncle Remus’ Chicken»(Westside Chicago chicken) and I’m good.

This has been third time at this place. Always got great service and the food is delicious. The shrimp are huge and the mild sauce is yummy!!! The place is small though and it is always full.

So I’m a big fan of Rio’s around the corner so I was really curious when I saw this place pop up. I finally visited a few days ago and order the 4 wing lunch special. I order the same thing from Rio’s every time I go. Coop definitely has better pricing. My meal came with 4 wings, fries, slice of bread, small coleslaw, and a 20oz drink for $ 6.56. At Rio’s I can get the same with a small can drink for $ 8.57. Also, Coop has a point system so you can earn free items which is awesome. It’s very clean and the service is great. One thing that is strange is you can’t see the menu when you walk in, so if you’re not familiar you have to ask what they have. All in all the food which is most important is just ok. It was hot and fresh but lacking seasoning even when I ordered extra. I’ll be back to order something else but it’s worth a try for sure!

First time visit… I was slightly disappointed. The chicken was not what I expected. It was hot in temperature but as far as flavor it was mediocre. The catfish didnt taste or look like catfish. Not really sure what fish I ate. I was supposed to get mild sauce on the side but that didnt happen. All that aside, the staff was really nice.

Highlights: –You really get a bang for your buck and enough for leftovers.(Hubby and I ordered two wing meals and it could have easily fed three or more people) –Chicken seems fresh and not frozen, straight from the batter to fryer type of meal –Very clean and orderly establishment –Customer service is awesome Lowlights: –None worth mentioning :) Overall: Hubby and I loved this place, my husband has been here one other time before lunch and raved about this place(He says it’s better than Rudy’s) and the other Unilocalers sold me, it’s a really good eatery. The only reason my review is Not five stars is because it’s chicken! You can never really go wrong with it if prepared right!

It was alright… Had to go see what hype was about. I had wings n fries. It was decent, nothing to rave about. It’s not bad but not great. Haven’t returned since visiting a month ago. Everyone was friendly. Call ahead to avoid long wait.

Look here… I had been eagerly awaiting the opening of this joint since it had been announced it was coming to town. As a former Chicagoan, Harold’s chicken was my go to spot for wings. Give me a 4 piece, fried hard, with mild sauce and salt and pepper and I’m in food heaven. Knowing that the owners also owned several former Harolds chicken in Chicago convinced me to make the hour + drive to see if the hype and taste was there. YOUWILLNOTBEDISAPPOINTED! !! Hubby and I arrived about an hour after opening and there was already a crowd waiting in line and sitting down. My nose was hit with the aromatic scent of fresh fried chicken with that familiar Harolds seasoning scent, and I knew it would be going down! We both ordered a four piece wing and waited about twenty minutes for our food to come. The chicken was hot, delicious and on point. I swear I nearly cried and did a holy ghost dance. I will definitely be back EVERYTIME I’m up this way. Don’t walk, run your butt up there and get the best wings in the metroplex

So, this is my second time at this place. The first time I really wanted fish. We went on a Sunday night around 8 something. We went into the place and proceeded to order fish. Welp, they had none. They still had about two hours left. They lost my business that night. Ugh! Fast forward to today lets try it again. When we went in there were about 4 people waiting. We ordered and sat down. A drove of people started coming in… about 20+ people to be exact. People everywhere… waiting. Waiting for yummy chicken, fish, gizzard, shrimp, or other hot deliciousness. We waited for our food 40 minutes. 40WHOLE minutes. It don’t take that long to fry chicken and fish. I cook. I know these things. We finally got our food. No apology for the 40 minute wait or offer of a free anything. Alright Chicken Coop. Get home to dinner glory and they forgot my side hot sauce. Ugh. Other than that the fries are simple. The chicken is tasty… crunchy and seasoned well. The fish is good as well but a bit on the salty side. It also tastes like it was fried in hush puppy batter. Keep it interesting I suppose. Would I go back? Yeah, but I’d probably call ahead. In all it seems they need more people working and they need to pay better attention to orders and waiting customers. Keep it coming Chicken Coop!

Wow… I am pleasantly surprised. Have to say, the reviews are all right — Great fried chicken and catfish. Really friendly staff, too. Don’t expect a lot if frills in the dining room, but there’s places to eat inside. A tip for everyone though, they take a lot of call in orders so if you don’t want to wait, call it in and save some time.

If you want a freshly made, made to order fried chicken then this would be your place. I honestly don’t mind waiting for my food if I know that the reason why is they’re making it fresh. But if don’t want to wait, the ladies taking your orders will gladly accept your order in advance by phone. We didn’t do that as it was our first time. We notice a lot of called in, to go orders. We waited in line and gave them our order as soon as it was our turn. We opted for 8pc mix and an order of fries and 2 drinks. FYI, they don’t have fountain drinks it’s ok in bottles. Their food is doused with spicy ketchup/hot sauce but you can request not to do that and have the sauce on the side. The wait wasn’t that bad. It probably took 20minutes until our order is out. Our food came out pipping hot and looking great. All in all, our experience is good and this maybe on top of my list to get made to order fried chicken.

Thank the creator of chicken for bringing a taste of Chicago to Dallas! Don’t let the name fools you, this is the real deal. Food so good you get reduced to communicating by grunts and nods! And pizza puffs!!!

Located in the Aldi shopping center. There’s no drive through and they fry up your chicken to order. It’s probably a good idea to call in your order, unless you don’t mind waiting about 15 minutes. I ordered the half chicken — all white dinner. That’s 2 breasts and 2 wings, plus fries, a couple slices of wheat bread, slaw, and their special sauce. The chicken pieces are B I G, super juicy and crisp. The flavor was good! The coating on the chicken reminded me of church’s,(but better) and even the slaw was tasty. Their«special sauce» reminded me a bit of Arby’s sauce. It’s a ketchup base with a little kick and a hint of bbq sauce flavor. The woman that took my order was very nice and helpful, and the place was spotlessly clean. If you’re a fried chicken enthusiast, as I am, go check it out!

My significant other and I went in to see what the hype was about. I ordered the chicken wings and he got the tenders. Now, mind you, we had never been before so we didn’t really know the ins and outs of the menu. When I say wings, I’m guessing they are fried wings like I see in the picture. Likewise, we thought chicken tenders were just that, chicken tenders; We didn’t know about hot sauce vs. mild sauce. I’m from Mississippi; we just fry the chicken and eat it. The chick behind the register didn’t bother to explain the difference or what it meant, so I just asked if all sauces could be on the side to avoid confusion. I assume it’s all cooked to order due to the longer than average wait. My wings were excellent, like they were really good. The fries were hot but had no seasoning whatsoever. His tenders were so salty he couldn’t eat them. He ate one and a half and threw the rest away. All in all, this isn’t a bad place to stop through if you don’t plan on cooking. I wouldn’t recommend the tenders, but I do want to try the fish and that pizza puff thing that I have been hearing so much about. I think if they treat each customer like they have never been there before, things would be a bit better. It was said, in passing conversation, that all of them employees moved from Chicago. I guess that’s why they seemed a bit rude.

Food(*****) OK, this is THE best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted in my life and I’ve had a LOT of fried chicken. Why is this the best?! Here’s a rundown; 1. The skin is very crispy, yet light, airy, but not greasy. For example, KFC is not crispy. Grandy’s is crispy but the skin is very heavy and dense. Many restaurants attempt to serve fried chicken but due to a lack of specialized equipment setup, it ends up being very oily and greasy. Williams chicken in South Dallas comes close but Chicago Chicken Coop beats them with a more airy and light chicken skin. 2. The meat has been brined so it has flavor inside the meat. Most other fried chicken places miss this part. Other places just put the flavor in the batter or sprinkle it on the skin. CCC actually soaks the chicken in a salt solution at least overnight before cooking it. This puts the flavor inside the meat instead of just on the meat. 3. The meat is also from young chicken so it is very tender. Grandy’s serves old chicken so the meat is tough and chewy. I don’t think any other place serves chicken that is this young. 4. They serve a mild sauce that is slightly sweet. This helps balance out the saltiness of the brined chicken. 5. They take 10 min to fry your chicken to order so it is fresh and HOT. They do not store chicken under heat lamps. 6. They don’t use the same oil for fried fish and the fried chicken. I detected not one hint of fish in my chicken. Most places that fry fish and chicken will mess this up, but not CCC. 7. The fry oil is changed regularly because the fried chicken is gold in color, not brown. Many mom and pop joints will try to save money by reusing the fry oil, which is a big mistake because the chicken will be a disgusting brown color and the flavor will be a bit rancid. Service(*****); Attentive and helpful cashier who actually knew the menu. Many other fried chicken places hire minimum wage slaves who don’t know and don’t care. This lady knew her chicken and was able to give me some recommendations. Atmosphere(***); It’s a chicken«coop». What do you expect? Very spartan but also very clean. They only have a couple of tables so they’re mainly a take out place. Conclusion(*****); Four stars is the tally but I added a star for value. It is only $ 7 for 8 pieces of dark meat. I normally have to go to South Dallas or Oak Cliff to get my fried chicken fix. I’m happy to note that I no longer have to strap on my hog leg and drive 60 min for my fried chicken fix because CCC is in North Dallas. Yay!

The former owners of 3 Harolds Chicken Franchises has opened a new concept Chicago Chicken Coop. It’s delicious, efficient and inexpensive. They are about 5 tables that you can sit down and eat in the restaurant. But for the most part they are mainly a takeout joint. And they also serve popcorn that is similar to Garretts! The cheese and caramel popcorn mix! If you are a native of Chicago you will feel right at home!
