It is my first time here. I had the pleasure of speaking with the friendly business owners myself today. I had the 1piece fish. The tartar sauce is amazing. The fish has a large bone in the middle. Too large to swallow and it shows it’s not the mainstream processed fish u see everywhere.

I used to go here years ago mostly because I worked not to far and for the money it was ok «fried seafood .» Years ago ” And as bad an area as it is in, Ive never had a problem. But I went recently, and as usual the 1 overworked cashier seemed to eager to take my order«sarcasm«and the food was Greasy, nasty, and way over priced ! I’ve lived in Dallas for 50 years and have eaten at many places but I have to say, this is one of the worst ! If you dare to try it, I recommend tums or pepto afterwards..

Let me just say that I vote this catfish spot as the WORST in Dallas, Texas. Being a Dallasite, I have had my share of the best of the best & the worst of the worst of CATFISH, so please take my words, very seriously. Do NOT waste your gas, time or energy going over here … Now I will say, the staff members are definitely very friendly as H&LL but can you say #teamNOFLAVOR. When I say that there is absolutely NO seasoning whatsoever on this fish & talk about overpriced. They have washed the fish off — threw it in cornmeal and into the grease — that’s all!!! The ONE&ONLY and I do mean ONLY thing that I give this spot is their tarter sauce is BANGING, but that’s it! So, if you want to waste your coins to get some catfish that has no flavor — but freshly fried then this is definitely your spot — perfect for diabetics & folk with NO taste buds, YUCK!!! And to my defense, I have tried this place a few times — NOTHING has ever changed — consistently disgusting!

I grew up on Catfish Smith and we used to buy their fish as a fam for years. I haven’t been in a while, decided to go today and purchased a family order of 15 pieces for $ 53 plus, when the menu clearly said $ 43.55??? All the guy said was«I just work here» when asked about the taxes smh. The fish was very very hard and had no taste. My family and I are very disappointed. Will not be going back.

As a proud Southerner, I consider myself a catfish connoisseur, and yes it is that serious. Catfish is the business and is seriously one of my favorite fish. After listening to a grumpy 4 year old complain about wanting to eat some fish, my Mom informed us that Catfish Smith was on Lamar(the exact street we were on at that moment). So we began to drive and entered into a sketchy part of Old South Dallas. It is not so much sketchy due to the people, but just the creepiness of the huge old, industrial plants and lack of proper street lighting. We turned into a little joint that looks like carhops on roller-skates should come out to take your order. It is really a cute, retro building. As we were trying to figure out what to grab, the hours of business sign caught my eye. S-Thursday Catfish Smith stays open until midnight and on the weekend, they seriously stay open until 3am. Good looking out for the club crews! I heard stories of people going there after hitting the club, but be forewarned that the line is super long from what I’ve heard. So what about the fish? Well, it is okay. It is not the best or anything. I mean, since Catfish Connection(RIP) went out of business, the only other place that makes me say yum so far is either my Mom’s fish(hands down the best) or Catfish Floyd’s. The fish had a nice bite, wasn’t skimpy and under seasoned like Top Cat(seriously, who likes this place?!). The price range was a bit too high for what they are serving for my taste, but my Mom and I shared the 3 piece and both of us were full afterwards. One complaint that I have though is that the wedge cut fries had absolutely NOSALT on there. They were just beyond bland. Overall, I really would love to give Catfish Smith 3.5 stars because seriously giving Dallas an option beyond fast food chains after clubbing is just awesome.

to me, hands down best fried catfish EVER in DFW! i havent try anything else there but the catfish fillet. You must get the cajun dipping sauce to go with it. Call your order ahead as sometime you can wait up to 20 minutes. It is all freshly made. Dont go there late at night and if you do, strap on just in case.

The establishment is in a bad part of town but during the day its perfectly safe, I didn’t feel threatened in any way. They open all week sometimes until 3am. Avoid the late nites and weekends when its is packed but sooo worth it. There is only carry out available. Their menu includes your typical seafood fare with the addition of burgers and frog legs(for less than $ 10). There are family and personal combos ranging from 5.25 thru $ 28. Now on to the fish… the deep fried fillets are moist and flaky on the inside with a crunchy flavorful coating. Their tartar sauce is handamde so its quite unique and delicious. All orders are served with bread and fries. The fries have mashed potato like insides. When it is slow everyone is patient and willing to suggest and advise you on what to order. Yesterday it was tilapia, today catfish. Both of which are yummy but, i felt the catfish was too salty. Tilapia hit the spot and those FRIES, luv them!
