Did NOT enjoy the experience I had today here for lunch with 4 of my coworkers. This place is very hole-in-the-wall style Mexican restaurant but lacks the authentic flare. FOOD(1*): every table comes with free chips and salsa. Salsa was good, but chips were so lack-luster in taste. I’ve had better ones from the grocery store. If they were homemade I couldn’t tell. I ordered the #11 Three tamales lunch plate and asked the server what kind of tamales they were. She barked at me that they were a surprise and she didn’t know… Well alright then! They were beef and very small and boring. The sauce on the tamales was brown-like and smelled like ravioli sauce(yuck). Besides my meal, one of my coworkers didn’t get their fajitas toppings and had to ask the server to bring some, one of them got beef nachos instead of his chicken like he had requested, and the other one’s cheese on their plate looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. SERVICE(1*): every single person at my table had to ask the server to refill their drink instead of her asking them. The lady also was very unfriendly and seemed to be spending a lot of time in the back instead of making sure we were all happy. CLEANLINESS(–1*): the bathroom is a tiny one-room uni-sex bathroom. The paper towels to dry your hands were stacked(in the open) on a diaper-changing table RIGHTNEXTTOTHETOLIET, which had the seat lifted up from when a man(I’m assuming) went to the restroom last. SOREVOLTING. The soap was in a regular plastic soap dispenser that you can buy at the store and was almost out. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by its bathroom cleanliness and this one was nasty. WILLNOTBEGOINGBACKFORANOTHERVISIT.

This was my first time at this restaurant, although I have passed it many times. The place smelled heavenly when I walked in of cooking beans and salsa. I was nicely greeted and seated by Araceli and made to feel very welcome. I was hungry, but looking for some lighter Mexican fare and when I was handed the menu… all I could say was WOW to all of the selections! The place was cozy and it was like walking back in time… this place has been open since 1994. I chose the spinach enchiladas off the lunch menu and they were probably the best and freshest spinach enchiladas I have ever had. The enchiladas were obviously freshly rolled and made to order. Their chips were so fresh I had to ask if they were home made… they were not, but no secrets were revealed! I did not care for the refried beans but the charro beans were delicious. Definitely a place worth trying… I will go again!

Love this hole-in-the wall. The prices are great, especially at lunch, the food is wonderful Tex-Mex(don’t go here on a diet!) It’s not glamorous, but it’s congenial, tasty and a good deal, and we eat here regularly and will continue to do so.

We saw this place on a side street and thought we’d try it. My wife said it was full and we always think that is a good sign so we came in. The atmosphere was nice the food was great. If you’re in the area you need to try it!

Love love love them. Good food, nice staff. The dinner prices were slightly higher than average but absolutely worth it. They give you great salsa(it’s got a kick to it) and a little bowl of soup to start off your meal. I like that. Very different. For sure a place I want to come back to. Easy to find, easy to love.

Not terrible! Pretty alright. I will say: best thing going for this place is the hole-in-the-wall, diner ambiance and classic photos /art lining the inside. Complimentary bean soup has lard in it. Salsa is good; spicy. Flat screen TV was a bit loud during a rather quiet luncheon.

Authentic Tex mex at its finest! Great enchiladas, just enough spice to other dishes — mom and pop owned — much better than any of the chains around.

True confession? The last time I ate here was 1995… So, this review is to honor some memories. I worked just down the street for a few years before moving back to Portland, OR. It was/is my favorite kind of place: authentic, homemade, delicious, unpretentious(funny how that word actually sounds pretentious oh well), friendly — on to the food… Loved the way they made their tacos. Fried the corn tortillas with the meat and cheese in it. Delicious. Bad for you. Nice! Fresh salsa, great chips, used lard in their frijoles… okay that’s the end of my memory. Oops, forgot the enchiladas. Awesome :)!

The atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped into yesteryear but the food is homemade, like your abuelita would make, delicious. Everything is clearly made with attention to detail, and the flavors and quality reflect that. The prices are also INCREDIBLE, especially at lunch, which they serve 7 days a week. If you’re in the area, and looking for a solid meal but not fancy, this is your joint.

This is a mom and pop type place with mediocre service and food. The complimentary bean soup is great and the sour cream sauce on their enchiladas is good. The fajitas aren’t great and the Queso is bad.

We’ve been a a few more times and have perfected our Casa Navarro game. Fajita nachos are the way to go although one time we go them and they were perfect and the second time we got them they were especially greasy so it’s a gamble but greasy can be good too. The cheese is… not entirely real cheese, it melts too good so if you think yourself above such things, make a note of it. You get a ring of bean nachos covered in the orange cheese and there’s a heap of meat in the middle so you kinda make your own, I like it, I think you end up with more meat than if it had been placed on each chip. Also discovered you gotta go frozen with the margaritas, much better than on the rocks. Bean soup still killin’ it– free and tasty, what more could you want?

A true hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex restaurant, the kind that survives in just about any Texas town with a triple-digit population. This location is in a leftover wing of a larger strip mall, not only surviving but doing well since 1994. The interior exists somewhere between Tex-Mex kitsch and border-town authentic, probably hasn’t changed since they opened. An enclosed entryway(?) opens to a small interior room with tables and booths. A larger space was built through a knocked-down wall that includes more seating and a bar, so the place is larger than it initially appears. This isn’t award-winning Mexican food, nor will it ever appear featured in a glossy magazine. It is plain and simple comfort food, the kind we all grew up eating, the food made for gringos living in rural Texas that they identified as «Mexican» cuisine. There are some traces of authenticity(e.g., menudo) but mostly just the standards. What stands apart is the somewhat extensive menu, particularly the special combos, available seven days a week, lunch and dinner. I counted 33 of them, listed by number and a brief one-line description. Any combination you could possibly think of is covered here and priced pretty much on par with fast food($ 7-$ 8), which makes this a great alternative. Had #12A, two chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, R&B. Each meal is served with chips and salsa and a complementary cup of beans, rounding out good value for the price. The food was good but not impressive, familiar and comforting without being stale or trendy. Worth a visit, if only to avoid the drive-thru.
