I lived in Bryan Place during my last semester at SMU, and although it is completely downtown and not in the Park Cities/SMU bubble, I absolutely loved it. It’s a tiny area literally right of downtown, and it’s a quick 8-minute drive to Tiff’s off Ross. Going North on 75 in the mornings was a bitch, but the Bryan Place town homes off San Jacinto are a stone’s throw from the highway. There’s also a bar called Three Sheets right off Ross/across the street from Bryan Place that is pretty cool, and has some strong drinks. The neighborhood is definitely an older crowd. Most of my neighbors were either retired or single, professional 30&40-somethings that drive nice cars and work 1485720247 hours a week. Which was great for me because I never had to worry about noise being a problem. The neighborhood is also full of dog fanatics and on multiple occasions my roommate’s chihuahua got into a feud whilst passing another dog on the small sidewalks. I also jogged several times during the day around the block, however, I never felt completely safe. Once you are just a few feet«outside of the neighborhood,» you are on your own, as the nitty gritty ghetto freak people are always lurking down and round Ross Avenue. Also, the nearest Starbucks was over off Gaston, a solid 5 miles from where I lived, and they were the slowest baristas in the history of slowest baristas. Holy cow, I could’ve grown 50 coffee bean fields in the time they spent making me my iced, venti, no-room americano.
