The Belmont as a whole is a timeless gem. The views from the Bar of downtown Dallas are killer. Super casual place and easy to just fall off the grid in west Dallas

I came here mostly because other review said it had a good view. The view was okay but nothing spectacular as it was mostly obstructed by trees and a new building. I was here late on a weeknight and it was totally empty. I didn’t mind the quiet ambience and the Bartender was friendly. He recommended the Cabrito which was light but yummy.

I was kicked out quite abruptly at midnight like I was drinking $ 2 PBRs. I was in fact drinking a $ 12 glass of wine. All I wanted was to get a little more work done before heading to my room. I wasn’t going to be much longer, but barkeep was running around and in a hurry. Not a nice vibe to be forced to down my expensive drink. So from the bar, I moved down into the lobby /lounge area and he promptly kicked me out of there too. He was a decent guy and my gripe is not with him necessarily, but it’s obvious it’s a dive bar mentality in a nice lounge style bar. Make up your minds.

Let me start by clarifying that the 2 star rating is not a reflection of the bar itself. The venue is lovely and has a great view. We had a birthday party of 45 – 50 people and the bartenders were quick and friendly. My rating has everything to do with how unaccommodating the event planner was with regard to my party. I contacted her a month in advance to let her know I wanted to throw a surprise birthday party for my husband and that I would have 40 – 50 guests. By contacting her, I mean I left a bunch of messages and then resorted to emailing her when getting no response. She did email me back and let me know that my options were to buy up the bar for an astronomical amount of money, which is silly because the bar would not be closed to other people, so what is the point exactly??. My other option is to just have a cash bar party– which is fine. She asked me to confirm the size of my party as we get closer to the event. I emailed her the Monday of(party was Saturday) that I would have about 50. I get an email back Thursday morning that 50 will be tight. Wtf? I was upfront about the size of my party from day 1. Then she informs me that they don’t allow anyone to reserve tables! Again, WTF!!! I may not have paid $ 3,000 to buy up the bar, which is an idiotic option since they would not close down the bar for us anyway, but I am still bringing 50 adults to your establishment which is more people than you see on most Saturday nights there. Why would you not be welcoming and let us reserve a couple of tables? That’s just smart business and good customer service. Oh and when I asked about putting up some decorations, she actually told me that since I didn’t buy up the bar, she would allow me to put up a few balloons. Whatever lady! In spite of all the drama, we had a great time. The event coordinator never even came out to meet me and say hello. Oh and my party made up about 75% of their clientele that night, so really letting us reserve tables would have been a non issue after all. My advice to Belmont is when you have party that wants to spend money at your establishment, extending them a few small courtesies goes a long way and leaves a much better impression.

A native of Dallas and the Oak Cliff neighborhood where the Belmont Hotel and Bar Belmont sit, this is my home at home away from home whenever I visit my hometown, which is often. The view is awesome, the happy hour drinks are great, the vibe is so «Brooklyn»(without pretension of any sort) that I can’t believe I’m not in NYC.

One of the shop owners in Bishop Art District said we Must go here or we will regret it. I do NOT like the idea of regret, so we went! I think I regret going more. I didn’t feel the vibe or gooey feeling that he has going on for this place apparently. We got there at 1am, no one was there, the place was empty, except for the bartender and two guy patrons, who continually tussled their locks while applying lip balm in a quiet corner of the bar, looking like confused CREED band members . There was no music playing, no muffled sounds of chatter or any activity to hear or see for that matter. Maybe we were just there way too late. But it was a Saturday night and apart from it being a hotel, where you’d think the hotel guests might come in for a late night mid — century libation, this side of town struck me as party central, so I just thought it would be little busier since it seems to be such an iconic joint. The valet insisted that we valet, but he must have left right right after we arrived because were only there for 20 minutes and we had to go find our own car, AFTER the toothless guy sitting behind the front counter refused us our keys until we paid him the $ 5 valet fee. I don’t mind paying for valet, but if I have to go get my own car because the valet attendant left for the night, then I think the fee should be waived. I would love to know if the $ 10 in valet fees, paid between the both of us, went into the hotel cash box, or Into the toothless guy’s pocket. Anyway, the skyline that this hotel was known for, is now blocked by a huge apartment building, so sad! and I heard later on, that this is a very shady area to be in late at night. Maybe if the bar were busy, loud or beautifully decorated it would have been a different experience and a memorable visit, but I thought it was so quiet, very boring and so very sad. «Whaaaaaa!» What a baby, I know.

Bar Belmont is the bar that’s a part of my much-beloved Belmont Hotel. It has an indoor and an outdoor patio as well as an easy entrance for those who are not staying at the hotel but still want to imbibe. The view of downtown from the bar is not as good as the view from the pool, but either way, the city of Dallas is a great backdrop as you enjoy a tasty beverage and/or food. Last time I was here, Sis and I split the«chickpea hummus»(uhhh chickpea hummus seems redundant, no?) which is from the neighboring restaurant Smoke. Redundant name or not, that hummus was bomb. Paired with some pita chips and yummy smoked greens, we were quite happy. This seems like a cool little spot if you’re local. I’ve seen it get crowded, though, but since I was a guest, I ended buying a beer and taking it back to my room where I could imbibe peacefully. Early in the evening was a much more serene time to kick back and relax.

I have been coming for years and just love it. You feel like you are in old school Cabo. You pull up a hill to the right and exit on to bricks that sound like a force meeting elegance when your heels hit the squares. Low ceilings and candles. Tucked in just through the entrance is a little bar with bench seating and spanish influences everywhere. Candles take over the glow of your surroundings. Shadows flicker on peoples faces. You do not mind being in this tight space in a line like drunk ants when Campari is highlighted on the back bar, anything anyone wants they have, and the wine list is fantastic BTG. It was still a bit chilllly willly so they had the plastic up on the patio. I love sitting at those tall bar tables with purse hooks when it is warmer. The guitar dudes will wrap you in music. We opted outside as a group to partly discuss how awesome the view is, only to be shattered that some lame developer built up, blocking most of it. RUDE. But that is not on the Belmont. It does suck though. But rolling with a Set of Sexy Dudes makes up for it. hee hee So whatever. Scenery for Scenery.

Great bar, fantastic drinks, and awesome service. The bartenders have been informative and fast! Every drink I’ve ordered has tasted great, and better yet had a great balance of alcohol and flavor. The bar itself it so awesome, the layout is very relaxed with great ambient lighting, and a laid back atmosphere. There is also always a nice chill tune playing through the speakers and there’s plenty of room to sit. The fact it’s connected to Belmont Hotel makes it the perfect spot to grab a drink at the Belmont! After a long days work, I LOVE the fact this place is so close and provides such quality!!! I will definitely make this a point of interest any time I’m in Dallas.

I really hate to do this… but 3 stars is as good as it gets and that’s pushing it. I went here while waiting for Smoke to open and found that it didn’t share much in common outside of a taster menu. I was dying for a particular drink from Smoke and assumed they would have it here… they did not. The selection seems limited as the bar is TINY… the interior is just non-existent. If you sit on the patio you may find it better, except that the waitress did not seem to be in the greatest mood either. The bartender was flustered the whole time I was there and the drink was mediocre. I didn’t even wait for Smoke to open before I left and waited on the curb. Even the view in this place is having a hard time… thanks to construction in the area. Goodluck Bar Belmont…

I gave Bar Belmont a try because it had decent reviews a view of the city and a patio where I can smoke my cigar. I got here is filled with 20 year old stuck up hipsters that are giving me the stink face because I’m enjoying a nice cigar. If you like a bar filled with nothing but fake blonde white women then this is your place to go

This may be a perfect bar. We had a bar tender Ashleigh and a bar back slash bar back also named Ashly(but spelled different)(maybe a bar tender for the tables outside?) and she is efficient professional, and opinionated. This is the perfect combo as is a patron appreciates the professionalism of an expert but also appreciate the OPINION of an expert. What a lovely night. Tonight, it’s a perfect experience. Thank you Ashleigh(and Ashly).

Great location with a great view… BUT, OMG stop with the crappy hipster wait staff! They stand behind the bar and do nothing, never come to the table and screw up every order! Please hire better people!

Good view of downtown but horrible hipster service. Dear management, The weather is awesome tonight but the service is not(and rarely is) which would explain why it’s so empty. Word of advise: fire your friends working the bar and go recruit the wait staff at Sonic down the road. Those kids know how to work their but off. Seriously, your staff hangs out at the bar chatting, if they are visible at all. Hire Starbucks employees! You have a great location but such notoriously lazy condescending hipster service.

Came here because D Magazine said it had one of the best patios for drinking and raves about the skyline view. Well, half the skyline view is blocked by some apartment complex being built across the street. The drinks were $ 10 and came in tiny cups that were HALFWAY filled. I got the belmonti and it tasted like cheap vodka with lemon juice and melted ice. There was only 1 waitress I the whole patio so it took about 15 min to get our drinks even though the patio wasn’t crowded at all. Definitely a lot of potential for this place that isn’t being utilized. Glad we came but won’t be coming back :(

I’d heard a lot of great things about Bar Belmont but was pretty disappointed – everyone raves about the beautiful view of downtown, but that view is now mostly obstructed by new apartment buildings. The mini slider platter with brisket, chicken, and pulled pork was delicious(from the Smoke kitchen!), but the foie gras and chicken liver pâté was very bland – not to mention that flies were swarming our food the entire time. But the drinks were great, and the patio was surprisingly cool for a hot July day. Overall, it was OK, but I won’t be rushing to go back any time soon.

The view is not what it used to be with a complex being built right in front which is a shame. Service started strong and came to a stumbling halt as the evening set in. The food which we ordered was decent. nothing really special to note. There were only two servers on the patio and we could barely get any orders in or get check on. The live music was too loud and looked like a pair from the«three amigos» movie. We were ready to leave by the end and glad we did.

With one of the most stunning views you will find of Dallas, Bar Belmont offers an experience unlike any other. Drinks are creative but expensive and the service is seriously lacking. If it wasnt for the awesome view I would be giving BarBelmont less than 4 stars for sure. This is a great bar to go to with friends, family, or business colleagues who are visiting from out of town.

OK. I’m not a hipster. I’m not«young» in the terms that a place as fashionable as this would be described in. After my visit, I was determined to come here and blast a two star dagger into this place for the outrageous drink prices alone, but then I saw that, wow, someone else had noticed that(yeah, almost all of my fellow reviewers), and that, apparently, this is at least somewhat acceptable for a place like this. I guess it shows that I’m not not going to the cool places, but in the spirit of not dinging for something that’s more commonplace than I thought, I’ll be a little lenient. Still, though, a $ 10 bloody mary, made from a MIX? That’s not acceptable. Make it from scratch, and it moves back to merely outrageous. Now, moving on to the good stuff: Visiting on an early Monday evening, we didn’t experience the crowding and poor service that some seem to have had. In fact, our group(eventually swelling to about 20), managed to manhandle our way into the best spots on the patio, and boy, are they spectacular. The views of downtown Dallas are just as described by other reviewers: Beautifully picturesque, with terrain that almost evokes the hills overlooking Los Angeles. The hotel and bar buildings themselves are very well done, retaining the ‘50s style while looking«modern kitsch» with little pretense or fru-fru. The trio of bathrooms are simply marked«bathroom»; this is something that probably more places should do. If it’s a single seater, does gender really matter? We had some snacks, in the form of some great sliders. Some were glorified(and not in a bad way) cheeseburgers, while others featured BBQ chicken or beef, complete with red pickled onions. Other than a minor complaint of the buns being a LITTLE too thick, they were delicious. Thin slices of «dill bread» had a good flavor, but could have used a little butter or olive oil. To end on a high note: For those who complained about the heat on the patio, apparently the Belmont has heard your cries. There is a fairly extensive mister system in evidence, as well as at least one fan with an integrated mister. Together, these babies kept the place actually pleasant on this, the second 100+ degree day of 2012. Consider this issue resolved; you won’t melt down because of the heat. Your wallet, on the other hand… sorry, I said I’d stop. :)
