Waitress nice but alone and overworked. Food ranged from unremarkable to bad. Atmosphere was blah. Probably wouldn’t go back.

If I could rate less than one star, I would. It took 55 minutes for three sandwiches to come out. No refills on drinks, and there was only one other table. By the time the food came out, it was cold and dry. The waitress had such a bad attitude that we just got up and left without eating. Would not recommend to eat there, but I would recommend shutting it down.

We ate at Dante’s today for lunch. I always get a little nervous when we walk into a place and it’s completely empty, but this was the only restaurant on the square where we didn’t have to wait to be seated. We may have gotten seated quickly, but that’s when the waiting began. It took at least 45 minutes to get our food and we were the only people in the restaurant! The food was pretty good when it finally arrived, but by that point I was seriously regretting our decision not to wait for a table somewhere else. The atmosphere is pretty quaint, but the place smelled kind of like mildew. With all of the other cute cafes in Dahlonega, we definitely won’t give this one another chance. One more note of caution — the pictures from previous patrons are very outdated. The menu only has sandwiches, burgers, and salads. We didn’t see any Caribbean type options unless there’s a separate dinner menus

Don’t go there hungry… it took two of us just over an hour to get our sandwiches for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The sandwich was not worth the wait and the chips tasted like they were sitting around awhile.

Stopped in after riding the wine country for a drink and down time. Very nice courteous service. Would definately stop in again.

Delicious food at fair prices. Super nice staff, prompt service, and good music. Great for lunch. Ask for Mel for your waitress, very attentive and very sweet. I try to make it to Dantes every time I’m in Dahlonega for their Veggie Reuben and their hand cut chips. My boyfriend is addicted to their chicken avocado wrap and he is very particular about his food.

Note to self, always check the dates on four star reviews. Clearly there was a different régime in place when the four starts were given out. We could not have been more disappointed. A Cuban should have yellow mustard, pickles and PRESSED bread, not a roll. If it doesn’t then it is a sandwich, not a a Cuban. The pork was dry and tough. Wifey had black beans and rice with plain, tasteless chicken. Plantains and sweet potato fries are the only items with any redeeming quality. The kids begged us to hit Moe’s on the way out of town… next time we may listen.

Unique spot for lunch on the old-fashioned Dahlonega Square. Great food and natural light. Always has the same sever though. Change it up a little. Try the plantains!

Cute little place right on the square. We ate lunch here and sat right by the window on a sunny afternoon. Our waitress was nice and attentive but service overall was a bit slow as more customers came in. She was the only one working the tables. We ordered the Plantanos Maduros with Mojito sauce and it was delicious. We also had the crab cake which was moist and tasty but a but too much mayonnaise in the cake itself. My husband ordered the pulled pork wrap which was good but the crinkle sweet potato fries on the side were AMAZING. Next time we’re in town, we would return to Dante’s for lunch again.

I took my mom to Dahlonega over the weekend and there was a bicycle festival. The square was packed. People were waiting in line at the popular restaurants. We walked by Dantes and noticed that there was no one in the restaurant, so we decided to eat there. We had a nice table near a window. I had jerk fish with rice and beans. It was excellent. The rice had a hint of coconut and it was delicious. The fish was prepared very well. My mom had a reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. She ate very bite and she isn’t a big eater. Our server was so incredibly nice and offered to give us tea to go at the end of the meal. I can’t believe I’ve walked past this restaurant so many times without visiting it. It is a little displaced. I hope more people try it out.

The idea of a Caribbean place in north Georgia struck as just odd enough to be worth a try. Very glad we did! As others have mentioned, Dante’s is in a row of shops, but has a great view out onto the square. It was late on a Sunday afternoon, and we felt like an early dinner. The service was good, considering there were several other tables in use and only one server(the owner, it seemed). The food was great, and worth the money. In fact, our appetizer came out a bit smaller than the owner liked(she said she had a new cook) and she cut the price in half for it accordingly. Definitely worth visiting if you want something a bit different!

Almost four(4) stars, this Caribbean joint seems out of place on the historic Dahlonega square but delivers tasty food nonetheless. Every fall, my wife and I visit the Dahlonega square. We’ve been here 10 times or so over the past few years and never been hungry enough to need to stop and eat. Guess there’s a first time for everything. The square is odd — it’s a little country town tourist trap at the foot of the blue Ridge Mountains that has anything BUT country food. There are two Italian joints, a New Orleans seafood place and a couple of odd little sandwich shops. Dantes is yet another little slice of strange in this, the home of the nation’s first gold rush. Nestled in a little hallway of shops on the high side of the square, Dantes has a little atrium of sunlight to sit in up front, a bar and a few tables in the middle and a darker room with tables at the back on the way to the bathroom and kitchen. Four of us sat down for lunch on a Sunday afternoon during a visit this fall. The owner(???) /waitress got us our drinks rather quickly and even turned on the atrium TV so we could check out the afternoon NFL game. It was just us for a little while, but while we dined, there were at least 2 – 3 other tables occupied. We ordered everything from cuban sandwiches to shrimp to jerk chicken. All of it was very good. My friends, who are better acquainted with Caribbean cuisine, were very complimentary of the dishes. Dessert — I think it was flan — also impressed. Dantes would be getting 4 stars save for the service. The owner /waitress’s initial promptness was soon replaced by irritation and slowness as we debated what we wanted to eat. It was a little befuddling — there WAS a point where we were the only patrons. So what if we were overly enamored with the menu and taking our time to choose? It just didn’t jive with the food — better service would’ve made for a much better experience overall. In the end, the price was just about right for good, homemade food in a tourist trap like Dahlonega. We’ll definitely visit again. I just hope the service is a little friendlier and in keeping with the terrific food.

Very cozy place. We selected a table by the window to look out on the square. The pineapple BBQ sandwich was exceptional on a fresh baked bun. The broccoli salad was awesome. Great place. We will be back.
