Oh Unilocal, once again you have given me hope of finding great sushi for a decent price, but as a dear friend says«you pay for what you get» I ordered 4 of their signature rolls, excited to try something new but the rolls were all mushy, tasteless and the rice was dull at best. We spent about $ 50 on these rolls and sadly we had to throw it out, I really tried to swallow down this sushi but it was really not edible.

It seemed like they don’t really know what spicy tuna looks like. They got my togo orders messed up and insisted that they did put spicy tuna. If they think light colored fish is spicy tuna, the sushi chefs aren’t experienced at all or their sushi has gone really bad. They said they’ll give me a refund, but I guess we’ll see if they keep up to their promises.

Was very pleasantly surprised how fresh the sushi rolls, sushi, and sashimi tasted. From the initial exterior view the restaurant doesn’t look like much but when you walk in the service quite good. The woman server was very friendly and the chef that served us had a friendly warm smile. The rolls are pretty darn good. We ordered the cypress roll and was surprised how balanced it tasted. You would think strawberries and what looks like a soy sauce balsamic reduction would taste good with a crab sushi roll but we were very surprised. I would have to say the fish is fresh. Rolls are simple and delicious. We will definitely be back. If you like Asian wannabe sushi joints that drown their rolls in eel sauce and spicy mayo, this isn’t the place for you. But if you want fresh real Japanese inspired sushi this is the place for you. Try the black dragon roll. Pretty spicy with Serrano chili but the roll taste so damn good. Loved my first experience here. I couldn’t find a good sushi joint around cypress until now.

HAPPYHOUR: all day Monday and Tuesday, 2−5pm on other days. Their HH is okay, consists of discounted beers and appetizers($ 1 – 2 off) and select(basic, ex: salmon skin roll) sushi rolls for half the price, but you will only receive half the quantity, so it’s good if you’re eating kind of light and want to try multiple rolls. Their food is pretty good, fish was fresh. Here’s what you should get and not get. Not get: beef tataki — was okay, chewy, kind of taste like beef jerky. Yummy roll — was okay(imitation crab inside, outside forgot which fish, with jalapeño and lemon) I would probably get another roll for $ 12. To get: tuna on crispy rice — it was delicious. Tempura udon — came with 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, broth was good, udon was soft! Just how I like it. Baked mussels was good as well. Nothing to rave about, but nevertheless good sushi joint! Definitely worth a try!

My boyfriend and I were craving sushi and came across this place on groupon. Service was excellent, the food was even better! My favorite were the baked mussells… We will defenitely be coming back!

Good sushi is so hard to find around my house. I don’t know what it is, if it’s the area or what but all the sushi places I try usually amount to just being okay(we had a good one, it closed down). While I wouldn’t say Sushi World is «okay» as an insult, I am not blown away by any of the food here. But for the convenience of the location and the quality of both food and service, I’d say it deserves a good rating. We had been meaning to come here for a while, and finally bit that bullet on a weeknight. The place was practically empty, so we got to pick our table. Pros: –Service was friendly the entire time. Our waitress came back to fill our water without needing to be flagged down, I could hear the sushi chefs having happy conversations over at the bar. All in all a nice time. –Food was good. Again, I wasn’t blown away by it(and will go into greater detail below), but it was well made and satisfying. –Although I did not partake in it, they seem to have a decent price on their tempura items. Cons: –It’s still sushi, so the price is a little high under normal circumstances. Not necessarily unfairly high, but still noticeable. –There didn’t seem to be a lot of cooked options(think baked salmon on top of the roll), which my wife prefers. Food breakdown(break– break– break– break-uh break it down): –Spicy Garlic Edamame: I have tried a couple different variations on edamame as an appetizer. This was a good one. –Cypress Roll: Very surprising, very interesting. I don’t remember everything on it, but it has strawberries sliced on top. It’s an interesting contrast, because you don’t really get any sweetness normally with sushi. I like it, and encourage sushi places to invent more signature rolls like this. –Red Dragon Roll: Don’t let the promise of spicy tuna fool you, it isn’t very spicy at all. I enjoyed it, but didn’t stand out as being amazing. –Caterpillar Roll: Good, well made even though I don’t care much for avocados(gasp). It was my wife’s favorite of the night. I will likely be back at some point… man, this was sort of a boring review for me. I feel disappointed with myself.

Overall this is a pretty good place. I would recommend giving it a try if you have never been. I’ve seen this place on Groupon a couple times and this is the second time I bought the same Groupon. I was lucky enough to catch Groupon with an extra 20% off. My friend and I had 2 rolls of our own and shared the last roll. We had a mix of tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, salmon and avocado and a simple tuna roll. When we arrived there wasn’t anybody else inside, but it was barely 4:30 on a weekday, and we were asked to wait a moment to be seated. The servers were friendly and they have a pretty good mix of sushi, sashimi and other dishes. We chose to order off of the paper menu.(make sure you ask for this menu back to keep ordering from it) if you dont ask for the paper menu /list back you are going to have to order the more expensive rolls from the regular menu. The fish seemed fresh and the rolls were neatly rolled, pretty much all you can ask for, and guests were served a small dish of wasabi and ginger, as you would expect in any sushi joint. Overall its a pretty good place that’s convenient and mellow, and if you get the Groupon its an even better deal.
