The Mofongo was delicious and the beans amazing. Tres Leches one of the best I have tried nearby and to top it all off an amazing Café con Leche! We will be back for sure!

My cousin and I found Rice and Beans quite randomly while traveling through Houston. This is a GEM of a spot. I had the ropa vieja, my cousin had a roast chicken and rice, and then we split a flan. There honestly wasn’t a morsel left untouched. It was so delicious. The plantains were perfect, and the flan was otherworldly. Admittedly, I rarely get cuban food since I moved away from Florida, but I just loved it! The décor is simple, the prices are good, and the food is great. I got the impression that we were the«non regulars» in the restaurant for lunch on a weekday, but we still had good service. I plan to stop at this humble shop every time I go through Houston.

Raw Shrimp!!! I specifically asked the kind waitress for the cook to please be sure my shrimp were cooked WELL… I could tell by his rude unfriendly body language he wasn’t going to do it. So looks like y’all are scratched off my list and I could have been a really good customer living less than a mile away but raw shrimp and enough rice to kill a horse is all I needed to keep searching for Cuban cuisine…

A OK Cuban food way out in the burbs. It’s a small cozy place in a strip mall. The food is very clean and fresh, but a little on the bland side. However, plantains were perfectly cooked. Service was super awkward. Hard sell of their wine was annoying. I would return for take-out.

Met an ex-boss of mine for dinner last evening(10÷5÷15) around 7:00pm. The restaurant was not crowded at all. I ordered the Lechon Asado(roasted pork), Congris(black beans and white rice cooked together), and Tostones(fried green plantains). It was absolutely DELICIOUS! I’ve ordered this dish many times before, and it is very consistent. The pork is fork tender(no knife needed) and melts in your mouth. The amount Congris is more than enough. And the Tostones were very tasty. There is always so much food and a very reasonable price. The plate always comes out piping hot(temperature, not spicy hot) and is so good each and every time!!!

Had been wanting to try this for years and finally made it a point to. I know nothing about Cuban food, have not been to Cuba yet but thanks to our Baller President Obama I do plan on crossing that visit off my bucket list here soon. As mentioned before the service isn’t very friendly. Somehow I don’t think the staff here is from Cuba, rather somewhere somewhat Latin and much closer… The beer selection sucks so didn’t order one. Started with the tamal. Thick creamy corn that reminded me of Central American as opposed to the obvious, Mexican. The shrimp plate at $ 14 was flavorful yet should have had twice as many shrimp for the price, considering that they are not Gulf of Texas shrimp as well should be. The steak smothered with ham and Swiss was extremely filling and could be shared by two people. Beans were interesting and there was too much rice. Is it authentic? Newspaper interviews on the wall with the founder say it is, from Miami. The seasoning was different than any Latin American food I have tasted in the Houston area, so maybe. Who know? Ever talked to anyone from Cuba lately? My last E-Mail to a friend there was intercepted by the State Dept. Sheesh.

Great food! Ordered the Roast Pork. Pork was flavorful and tender! Don’t be surprised if you have leftovers, it’s a lot of food. The plantains are very good as well. For my first Cuban food experience I am very pleased. Plan on going back soon to try the grilled shrimp which looked very good!

I would give it five stars if the service was better. The food is really good, and I’m not ashamed to say I ate here twice this weekend! Our waitress looked bored and didn’t put an effort into providing any sort of service. I will do carry out from this restaurant from now on. However they do look at you weird when you check your carry out order in front of them before leaving the restaurant. I have the right to check my order for discrepancies. Also, they should put the food items that have liquids in a sealed container, not just in a standard to-go box to prevent it from spilling all over the other food items while being transported in the car. Also, I don’t know how authentic the food is so I ate here with my friend who lived in Miami for a while and since she’s eaten a lot of Cuban food, she said this is pretty good Cuban food. It’s not the best but it’s not the worst. It’s pretty good for Cypress!

To start off I drove about 40 minutes just to eat here because of the ratings I seen here on Unilocal. Me and the wife literally just finished eating dinner here. The food was amazing! However the service or lack of service was why I’m giving them two stars. From the time we walked through the door till we left we barely exchanged any words with any of the ladies working here. We both walked in and there was a short blonde waitress standing at a table with a customer and two younger ones standing behind the bar/service counter. The closest one to us just looked at us, smiled and continued carrying on her conversation with the customer. As for the other two they just stood there and carrying on their conversation while looking at my wife and I. Finally as we begin to walk toward a booth one of the girls comes from behind the bar and motions us toward a table and just places the menu on the table and returns back to the bar only to finish her conversation. At this time we were only two of three customers there so we knew we should be getting more attention than what we were receiving. We look over the menu for about 8 minutes and still not one of them have even came over to ask what we would like to drink. Finally, a few minutes later the waitress that gave us the menu approaches and asks my wife and I, «What do you want to order?» Immediately I’m a little thrown off but I just want to have some good Cuban food so we place our orders for food and drinks. She walks away and returns with our drinks a few moments later. After waiting in awkward silence our food finally arrives and the presentation and flavor is top notch. BUT not once did the waitress or any of her conversation buddies return to ask how the food was or to refill our drinks. Our waitress actually disappeared to the kitchen area for about 10 minutes. The whole while the other waitresses glance our way but still don’t offer any service although our cups are empty and we are finished with our food. So I simply approach one of them and ask to pay my bill at the bar since it was brought out to the table. After she has rang me up and I’ve swiped my card my waitress finally comes out of the kitchen. The food is paid for and I’m not rude enough to not leave a tip but a tip was definitely not earned! Worst service I’ve ever had. Needless to say we will not be returning to here

I wasn’t expecting much when I pulled up and parked in front of the big, lighted block lettering«Cuban Cuisine.» An hour and a half later, I knew I’d stumbled upon one of those all too rare dining experiences: excellent food and service in a very ordinary ‘nether roadside non-attraction kind of place. The pork roast is all you will ever need. The amazing thing is the chicken noodle soup, excellent. Run don’t walk to this place, get the pork. It is a small place, so be patient it is worth it.

Extremely happy with our dinner here and will definitely be back! I had the Pechuga de Pollo a la Plancha-great chicken covered with grilled onions and served with rice & beans. Everything was fresh and seriously tasty. Hubby got the Shrimp de Ajillo(Garlic Shrimp) and was also very happy. My mother-in-law got the Pollo de Ajillo(Garlic Chicken) and loved it-I think I will have to try that next time, the garlic sauce in both dishes smelled wonderful. The service was good and the place, while kind of small, is cute and clean. So excited to have good Cuban food near home!

This place is still awesome! We stopped by again last night. The masas de puerco fritas was the best appetizer I have eaten in a long time. Next time, that will be the main course! The Vaca Frita was delicious as usual.(I’ve visited several times and only once has this been over done). The service was great and the Modelo was cold. This is one of my favorite places. Four stars before… Five stars now!

This place is AMAZING. Came here with my friend after a long day of shopping at the Houston Premium Outlets. We ordered the Bandeja Cubana(Cuban Platter W/2 Ham Croquettes, 1 Stuffed Potato, 1 Stuffed Yuca, 1 Cuban Tamale, and 3 Delicious Sweet Plantains!), Croquetas De Jamon(Ham Croquettes), Picadillo A La Criolla(Ground Beef W/Cuban Creole Sauce), and Lechon Asado(Roast Pork)! I recommend everything! Especially the Roast Pork, it was phenomenal!
