Legion Lake Resort

After more than a week on the road, I was dying to pop into a refreshing cool lake and have a swim. I finally got my chance in Custer State Park at Legion Lake — it is a gorgeous little lake surrounded by very large male bison peacefully grazing and pretending to ignore the humans.
In late August — the ambient temperature was in the high 80s/​low 90s and the lake was still a bit cool — but it felt really great after I got completely wet and I just soaked and floated for a bit and felt so much more peace. The rock walls facing from the other side are beautiful — and the sounds of young boys laughing and playing on the water with paddle boats was most excellent musical accompaniment.
Great lake, go swim it!

Stopped by when we were in Custer State Park. I had the Cobb salad which was filled with several different fresh greens, blue cheese and grilled chicken. Very good. Kids had the chicken quesadilla’s which was made with grilled chicken. Very tasty. The kids also had chicken fingers and the buttered noodles, both must have been good because the kids did a good job on them. My wife had the Mandarin chicken salad that rivaled Applebee’s. Service was just Ok. Server was pre-​occupied. All in all a nice lunch.

Great french fries and buffalo hot dogs at a fair price. They have starbucks too in the middle of the black hills. Great gift shop too.
