Sometimes plans go a little awry, but the alternative ends up being better. Arriving in Custer to find the place we’d planned to eat closed for the season, we looked around for another open café. Their pinup girl was visible from across the street, so we ambled over for breakfast. Good sign: the place was doing a rousing business at 7am. South Dakotans love their pastries, and the display cases were full of donuts, rolls, etc. to tempt(the pinup girl is obviously there to get you close enough to smell the goodies). We sat in the near-back of the long space. In addition to sweet treats, Baker’s does a full menu of traditional breakfast items. I got a Denver omelet with green chile sauce on the side. I’d come back here just to have that chile sauce! Spouse had an omelet and both of us dug the black bread that came with our plates. Service was great, even though they were busy and getting more so. If you want items to go, be sure to order them before your check comes. The register is close to the front, and the service area is further back — no one to ring you up up front. Definitely a good choice if you’re in the area.

We almost didn’t go here because it didn’t seem like a place to get lunch but I am glad we did. The burgers and onion rings were really good! We sat in the back and it was a bit cozy. The service was great!

Went in August 2015. Breakfast burrito was awful. The extremely sloooooow service was, well, sloooooooooow. There were lots of flies and it was stuffy inside. I go to the Black Hills frequently and will not return to this place.

Bison burger was delicious and huge, definitely struggled to finish it. Onion rings were worth it as well.

Had the baker burger and made it a Mike with fried onions and special sauce. It was tasty and filling. Onion rings were good with a light batter. Had a peanut butter stack for dessert on my way out.

Amazing atmosphere! The owner will sit down, hang out and talk with you for a bit! They can get a bit busy and they don’t allow for substitutions during the summer but overall awesome! I not only enjoy working at this place but I love the food too! Cherish(the owner) works beside her employees to make this place run smoothly and you can tell she takes pride in her restaurant! Did I mention how awesome the donuts are? Must try! But get there early cause they go quick!

Their buffalo salad was wonderful! It was similar to a taco salad but with bison meat. The dessert selection was incredibly tempting, but we restrained ourselves.

Some of the highlights at this bakery are EVERYTHINGONTHEMENUIT’S ALLSOGOODOHMYGOSHTHEDONUTSTHEBURGERSTHEBREAKFAST. EATITALL!!! Seriously folks. I was in Custer for business a few years back and ended up coming here several times. It has haunted my dreams ever since. I would almost make another trip back to the Black Hills just to eat here again. It’s that good.

The Breakfast Sandwich is positively extraordinary; we think it’s the best we’ve ever had(coming from people who have lived in NYC and enjoyed many a delicious breakfast sandwich). It’s the homemade bun that takes it over the top. The giant cinnamon rolls were also quite special. This place is a real gem.

My family and I came for lunch while visiting Custer State Park and the food was okay. Burgers were decent but not spectacular. They didn’t bring everyone who asked for it any water. The reason for my low rating however was the fact that I asked for cheddar instead of american cheese on my western burger and was told a big fat no! She said it was too busy for the cooks to give me a different cheese. Yet she substituted an entirely different side for someone else in my party(gave fries instead of cole slaw). I was just flabbergasted. I have never heard of a place refusing to give you a different type of cheese on your burger. I mean, seriously?!

Fantastic service and probably the best food we’ve had in the hills. We ate breakfast and it was delicious! Don’t pass on the pastries(yum!!).

This was a great comfort food spot. I wish that they had more to offer besides cheeseburgers, but mine was very good. I also got onion rings and those were excellent as well. The waitress was nice and the restaurant itself was ok. Overall a pretty average experience. Was torn between 3 and 4 stars but because I did enjoy my food I decided to go with 4.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere! The Pros… + the giant cinnamon rolls, tasty + the donuts were awesome + the fritter made me moan + the Breakfast Sandwich on their home made good was so good, order it! The Cons… — the drinks are a little steep, $ 2 for a small chocolate milk This was a nice little find, I can’t wait to visit again!

Five star sticky buns! And excellent chocolate donut too! We just popped in for pastries to-go so I am not sure about the rest of their menu. I would definitely go back for another round when we return to Custer.

I had an omelet, hash browns and toast. I’m a VERY hearty eater and this was too much for me… so if you like large portions and delicious food, you’ll love this place. Plus, the waitress, Lynn, has a sweet infectious smile and is the BEST waitress you could ask for!

Trying to be optimistic after reading some pretty negative reviews, I entered this place with medium expectations. The staff were nice, but I wouldn’t say friendly. They did their jobs but didn’t strive for anything beyond average. I ordered the breakfast burrito and asked for extra veggies added inside. The burrito arrived with not only no extra veggies but also the salsa that was already supposed to be inside it wasn’t there. Even still, the burrito was tasty and filling. I have other things I could complain about, but I’ll pass. Just know that you may not be impressed by this place. It’s not bad, but definitely nothing to write home about.

The homemade rolls they use on the breakfast sandwiches are BANGIN’, and the sandwiches themselves are large. They certainly don’t skimp on the portions! We grabbed our breakfast order to-go — 3 breakfast sandwiches, a regular breakfast plate, and four mini cinnamon rolls. The sandwiches were fantastic, as I’ve already stated, but the mini-cinnis were pretty dry… I only ate half of one because of that. The service was good to begin with, when there wasn’t a line, but as soon as the place started to see an influx of more customers, the service got snippy and a little sloppy. We had to run back in because they didn’t give us silverware with our to-go order, and when my husband approached one of the gals behind the counter to ask where we could grab some, she, assuming he was trying to order, snapped at my husband with a sharply toned«sir, you’re going to have to wait.» It was a less than welcoming interaction that could have been altogether avoided had they just put utensils in our bag to begin with.

Food was amazing. Took a star away because we went in just to get some donuts to go the 2nd time and nobody wanted to take our order and when they finally did it was like our 2 donut order was ruining their day. Which is too bad because the food was so good They need more help I think.

We totally loved their buns! My girl friend and I were on the hunt for delicious breakfast sandwiches in Custer. My friend and I shared a delicious breakfast sandwich, which we added an ample sausage party and hash brows to. It was yummy. We could totally tell our waitress genuinely cared about our breakfast experience. We do feel a little fat after eating it, although we think it will wear off my mid morning. We recommend!
