Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies

All the teachers at the Kirsch Center are inspirational. They all absolutely love what they are doing, are passionate and goal oriented. It has been a lot of fun taking their classes. The building itself is a nice place to study, and it was designed with not only sustainability in mind, but with aesthetics as well. With all the windows letting in natural light, the views of trees and mountains and lots of various choices of study space, this building is my favorite on campus. I highly recommend a major in Environmental Studies. It’s not just for hippies, but a place for common sense, intelligent and innovative minds.

The Kirsch Center is the first community college LEED platinum building in the United States. It is part of the De Anza College campus but it really stands apart as its own building. I took an environmental biology class here and until I did I didn’t even know this building existed even though I had been at the school for two years. This building is built to work with the seasons and uses highly advanced highly effective ways of conserving energy and yet still manages to create a comfortable learning environment. It was a 17-​year and $ 10 million effort to make this building see the light of day and it is truly amazing. I highly recommend you come and take a look around at this place whether or not you’re a student.
