Dr. Barry Taff and his associate Kerry Gaynor began their investigation on August 22, 1974, after a woman in the local bookstore approached them claiming her house was haunted. When the pair arrived at the woman’s house they were greeted by Doris Bither. Bither lived in the small home with her four children, a six year old daughter and three sons ages ten, thirteen and sixteen. The pair entered the home and described the inadequate living conditions and a strong pressure on their ear drums upon entering the residence. Bither claimed the sprits haunting the home would attack her and even rape her. Believing the tale of «ghostly rape» was hard at first for the investigative pair, but the bruises on her inner thighs made the two feel the need to investigate further. The oldest son mentioned that he had seen his mother being tossed around the room and he describes being shoved back by an invisible force when he tried to intervene. Doris Bither’s children also claimed to have seen the spirits and, in fact, they even named one of the more frequent visitors, «Mr. Whose-it.» To try and prove the family’s allegations, the investigators set up cameras in hopes of capturing any paranormal activity. Doris was instructed to call the spirits. As she summoned the ghost, a green mist appeared and with in seconds they saw a man’s upper torso. Nothing was ever caught on tape or photo. The only photos that suggest paranormal activity are that of a floating arc light in the middle of the room. The most famous is one where Doris is sitting on the bed. The photographic evidence produced by the team shows the arc of light floating above Doris Bither with no bends, even though behind it, we see the room’s corner. After Doris and her family left the home, the activity ceased. Doris reported that the phenomenon followed her and her family wherever they moved. She and her children have not been heard from since the 80s.
