Maria Bonita’s is right down the street from me and we usually just call in and pick it up. They are always super fast and nice. The food is always delicious too!

Best Mexican food in Culpeper! The guacamole is freshly made and fabulous; and while the ambiance isn’t much, the food, service, and prices are great. Go, eat, enjoy!

No, this is not a bad place. The food isn’t super great, but you definitely get what you pay for and this place is a very reasonable spot for a cheap lunch. The waitress(only one) is very pleasant and helpful. No problem getting a table at noon on a Saturday. The parking lot is plentiful. Lots of $ 6.50 lunch specials. Give it a try, but don’t expect anything more than a half step up from fast food.

Low prices and not bad for a quick bite. Food seemed to be partially microwaved as the enchiladas with beef were quite mushy but still good.

After seeing this place a hundred times while living around Culpeper, we finally decided to give this place a try. I went in around 6:00 on a weeknight. There were no other customers when I went in and I just placed an order to go so my husband and I could eat it at home. They were very friendly and the food came out fast. I can’t recall the total, but I felt it was very reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. We don’t do Mexican food often, but I would eat here again if we were in the mood for it.

Me and my sweetie have been here twice. Both times there were only a couple of people in there, but we went pretty late. The margarita was the perfect size, the prices are good($ 1 per taco for carryout-maybe that’s just a current special) the service was excellent both times. This past time, we got tacos to go and bought a drink which we drank while we were waiting. She asked us if we wanted a refill before we left. Yes, refills are free, but she didn’t have to ask! The tacos HITTHESPOT! The décor leaves a little to be desired, but we will be back for sure on budget-friendly date night or when we don’t feel like being where the crowds/waiting lines are.

Last week hubby took a day off to take care of some auto stuff, & while we were waiting to have all new tires put on my vehicle(yay!!!), we decided to try this spot. It’s been around for several years now, but we’ve always been out looking to dine too late(they close at 9 p.m.) to try it. This particular location was once a fast-food chain location(don’t even remember which one), then was an independent hair salon for a short time, & then morphed into its current stature as an independent Mexican restaurant. We arrived exactly at 11 a.m., which is when they open, so obviously were the one & only customers. What struck us right off — apart from the screaming Mexican décor — was the almost hermetically pristine cleanliness of the place. From top to bottom(& I’m not kidding — even the ceiling was blazingly white), the place was spotless. Even then, while we were awaiting menus, one of the proprietors was going around Windexing the windows(which didn’t need it). It was truly an OCD experience(«Monk» would have been right at home.) A basket of obviously house-made, warm, thin, crisp corn tortilla chips were served along with a rather mild insipid(although also homemade looking) salsa.(First basket is free; you’re charged if you want more.) The menus we received seemed a bit cryptic & limited, & we decided to wait until the white board of specials was finished being written, at which point it was brought to us to view. Hubby chose #1, which was a chicken burrito & enchilada with green sauce, rice & beans, while I had the #4 — chicken & beef/bean enchiladas with rice & beans. Confusion apparently reigns here, as hubby was served two chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Said they were fine, so no use complaining about the shape of what is essentially the same thing — lol! My chicken enchilada was fine as well — nicely shredded chicken that apparently had been cooked in a flavored broth. The«beef/bean» however, was — while somewhat tasty — the consistency of gruel, & I have to wonder if it was house-made or something brought in. Refried beans were the usual; & — THANKGOD — the rice was actually REAL rice; not the Minute Rice that most other Mexican restaurants serve. This is a personal bugaboo of mine with Mexican restaurants. While I do sometimes use Minute Rice at home, I do NOT want it served to me in a restaurant. Just a personal thing with me. Maria Bonita takes the time to use regular long-grain rice & I appreciate it. One thing that did hit a sour note? The several loud DINGS of the microwave. Sigh. There are also no garnishes to platters — i.e. pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, etc. This is definitely a no frills place. In fact, there are absolutely ZERO condiments on the table outside of salt & pepper. No hot sauce, no sugar, etc., etc. Prices were comparable to other basic plain Mexican restaurants, & service was a bit slow, especially considering the place was empty except for us. If we’re in the neighborhood & are in the mood for it, we might be back, but I won’t be going out of my way to visit again. Sum up is better than Pancho Villa, Culpeper; not as good as El Agave, Warrenton.
