Gile Cheese Store

From the outside, this Wisconsin Cheese market looks like a recycled Adult video store. Located right in town, it’s easy to find a access with their outlet sign and off-​street parking. The «outlet «moniker is a little inappropriate if you are one who translates outlet to discount or good deal. then you may be disappointed. But aside from the lack of outside appeal, inside there are lots of cheesy treats, specialty condiments, pastas, and candies.
The cheese selection is extensive, but not exactly «artisan,» if that is what you are looking for. No brie, no other exotic and few international varieties, but many, many choices of traditional domestic Jacks (I’m partial to those, of course) and cheddar. And SO many different flavors. One of my favorites is a Leek and Morel Jack which is nice strong variety, which melts and works well in quiche or Mac ‘n Cheese, and stands up to a bold red wine. I also like their Gorgonzola which comes in a wedge as opposed to crumbled. It’s strong and buttery and a fun addition to a cheese plate, or to add to baked cheese dishes. You cannot go wrong with any of the cheddar, white or yellow.
Having relocated from the city, I’ve noticed that cheeses anywhere in Wisconsin are not necessarily cheaper even thought they are «local.» This is probably because I’d been spoiled by the likes of Trader Joe’s and Mariano’s and their big buying power. But even Walmart here is not that cheap for cheeses. And I prefer to patronize these smaller local outlets, even if the prices are a bit higher. And Giles, like Weber Meats just north, is a very convenient stop between Galena and Platteville.

Nice to have cheese store off this quality in such a small town. Thanks for the cheese care package. Love your cheese and Weber meats!

These people need to get a personality… I mean LITERALLY if all the employees even shared ONE personality it would at least be somewhat better… but as it stands, the girls working there couldn’t get off the phone either talking or texting to whomever (Boyfriends, cow milkers or …) while trying to fain service. I won’t be going back no matter HOW high the gas prices go. Fennimore HERE WE COME!
