Gunsmith– quoted me $ 75 and 2 weeks to install my bull pump on my sks. After 10 months I called and he said he but it aside because he got frustrated with it(could have let me know) I was able to pick it up the next week with a lot of complaints from the gunsmith and a $ 90 charge. At that point I didn’t care, give me my gun. Thanks

It’s good enough and has a good degree of safety but the way they sell memberships and allow folks to jump you in line makes this a place that to me is a pain when they are busy like this Saturday. If it were closer to my house then I would probably cough up the $ 250/yr to be a member but there are many other places of similar quality that don’t do this and I don’t end up wasting an hour waiting around for a lane and I don’t need a membership to reserve a lane at Basspro and it’s half the cost. That said, this is a nice facility and I think they are doing a pretty good job and I will probably visit again when in the area, I just wouldn’t go out of my way to go there for pistol/revolver use. Also, keep in mind that this is a review of the range only(I haven’t used to classes or events but did attend a range gun auction that I found to be wildly overpriced for heavily used guns), I find their ammo and fire arms to be in the expensive side and I am an avid collector so I usually use FFL in lake bluff that charges $ 35 which is the same as the reduced rate On Target charges for members who’ve paid the $ 250 for an individual membership. $ 22 for a box of 9 mm and $ 25 for .38spl and .45acp and then $ 18 for .308 is high when compared to online or even Walmart or a sporting-goods store but to be expected if you don’t bring ammo. They will require you to buy their ammo if you rent which is standard too. I have visited on a Monday to try out the free rental day which I think is a great way to find a new piece to buy if you are curious how it handles. I was able to score a really nice scope for a rifle that I will bring back to OnTarget because they allow you to fire up to .50cal on the rifle range which is nice.

Of the three ranges that I’ve visited within driving distance of me, On Target is the best. This review is just for the range, since I rarely buy anything in the store. Here are the pros: — The range is clean and well lit, and shooters generally sweep their own brass when done — The staff is friendly and helpful, and will provide good recommendations for new shooters on what to rent — Rentals allow you to shoot multiple guns for one price. There is no fee to shoot numerous guns as long as you’ve paid for the lane and rental. — Except for one strange issue with the target carrier that seemed to only want to go to 7 yds, all equipment at the range has worked flawlessly — They offer a punch card frequent shooter deal that gives you a freebie session every five paid sessions — They allow you to shoot pistol on the rifle range if they are busy, and they frequently are busy Cons: — Wait time is generally bad. I’ve gone a bunch on the weekend and some during the week. Probably 30% of the time the wait has been an hour, and the others have been instant. — This is actually a pro for members(which I am currently not): Lanes can be reserved for members in advance, meaning if you get there early, you can see members just walk in and shoot while you wait. It’s a powerful marketing strategy for the membership, but it’s definitely a good idea to give yourself extra time if you are going. The cons are a function of it being a successful business, and I can’t hold that against them. Given their edge on their competition in the area, I’m tempted to buy a membership. I would absolutely recommend this to someone who has never been. I take all of my friends that haven’t gone before here because it is generally a good experience.

The ranges themselves are very nice. What sucks is the guy who managed the pistol range on sunday. We were looking for two lanes together and despite a clear conversation with him letting him know what we were looking for didn’t put us on the waiting list. Ended up leaving without shooting and will never return thanks to his lack of customer service. There are other ranges just as nice that go out of their way to make things f air and accessible

The cleanest and friendliest range around. Always a good time. Worth waiting a bit for a lane. The staff are always nice and willing to answer any questions. Great classes here too!

Three stars because it’s a nice facility. Lost two because of poor management. If you go on a weekend you may expect long waits. Our party of 5 needed three lanes. After an hour and fifteen minute wait the guy tells us that in twenty more minutes he can get two only. They manage their resources very poorly with a single point to place people on the wait list, register them if they are first time shooters and allocate stalls. They need to streamline that with a separate check in that anticipates the turn. Our further delay was blamed on members showing up. Really? You didn’t know they were coming? I’ll come back… during the week. It really is a nice range.

Mike and Susan instructed the Girls and Guns class in November when I went with a friend. It was the best experience ever. It was my first formal shooting /pistol introduction and it was knowledgeable and informative on top of being fun. I was also pleasantly surprised at the amount of one on one time you get in the classroom environment. Mike was very helpful assisting me in finding the right pistol as well. I could not recommend these instructors or On Target enough!

Great place to shoot, staff is knowledgeable and friendly(friendly staff is hard to find in this hobby for some reason). The ONLY reason I won’t give it five stars is because the wait times can be so long.

Very nice range, a bit far from my home but worth the trip. Great daily specials including free rental days. Great way to try out different guns prior to making a purchase

Went for my first time today with my bf and it was fairly good. Nice staff good people around. Prices were decent. I just like how there were two floors and usually I thought gun ranges were smaller but this one was pretty big.

Got my Concealed-Carry certificate of training here, great class, would highly recommend to anyone who asks! Excellent shooting range with employees who know the ins and outs of any weapon you point to. No stump-the-chumps here! Indoor range with everything you need, with the added bonus of air conditioning for those hot summer months. *click-clack* *BANG*!

I just started going to On Target for the last few months and I am very impressed with the people at On Target and the gun range are state-of-the art. The gun range is well ventilated. They are very eager to help and take care of you expediently. They’re not very expensive and Mondays have free gun rentals. Thanks to everyone at On Target.

My first visit to On Target was in 2012, my brother and i were turned away from the range because his kids, 8 and 9, had not taken their safety class. Where it was irritating(we ended up going to Article II in Lombard) it is ultimately their range and their rules. I guess what really irritated me about this visit was that after i explained my brother(who is military) and his kids are in from out of town, they guy asked us if the kids had taken the safety course yet… My wife and i and a friend went back about a year later. I almost never went back after that. It took almost a half hour to check in three people, the guy couldn’t figure out how to charge my wife and i for one lane and our friend for his own, so i ended up paying for all three which is not a big deal, but seems like it should have been a pretty simple thing. After we finally got checked in we went to our lanes. After about 45 minutes of shooting i feel as if someone is hovering behind me. It was one of the employees who looked at me and began tapping his watch as if to symbol my time was up. Not wanting to get into an ordeal we packed up and left, shorted 15 minutes of range time. At that point i was pretty sure i would never come back. This past July my brother came back into town. We decided to go shooting and didn’t want to have to pay twice at GAT to shoot rifle and pistol. This experience was much better than the previous two. Since i had taken time off of work we were able to go on a Monday and it was practically empty. We had three shooters and two lanes. There was no staff hurrying us off of the range and check in went very smoothly. I have not looked through the firearm selection on any of my visits, but from what i can tell they have a smaller inventory on hand than other shops in the area. Between the first 2 visits that didn’t go so well, and the last one that was an overall good experience 3 stars seems fair. On Target might not be my first choice in the future, but i am not crossing it off of my list quite yet.

Was just there the other day. It was my first time in a long time at a range. Staff is very friendly and patient. Got a nice little tour, asked questions and felt very comfortable here. I will be back.

This review is for Nick, the Gunsmith. Great service and he takes the time to make sure the job is done right. I cannot say this about all Gunsmiths. I took a Russian Rifle in there and it was for a job he had never done, but he took the time to make sure it was done right and now the action is very smooth.

I don’t usually air grievances but On Target in Crystal Lake will never get a single $ from me. I have had 3 bad experiences with them(and never a positive one). They need a lesson in customer service. 1) first time in the place about a year ago, the person behind the counter couldn’t answer a single question. 2) about 9 months ago when I wanted to look at a pistol, they didn’t want to take the time to take it out of their display. 3) tried to register for a class and they refused to find out if I could enroll when a different employee the day before said I could call to check if there were any openings the morning of the course.

I had two recent experiences with this range and I highly recommend it for both a place to shoot and for instruction. As a firing range they have nice facilities, their prices are fair and they are more local for those in central and northern McHenry County. As a plus, you can join the range as a member and the membership pays for itself after 25 visits(if you go 2 – 3 times per month you will come out ahead). For instruction my son took their Tots Shots class so he could come on the range with me. The cost was reasonable($ 50) and the instruction was good. Did he hear anything that I had not told him before? Not really, but he heard it again from somebody else! My son did exactly what I expected — started off a bit careless in how he took the rifle, etc. but by the end he was following their five rules with precision as close as you expect from an 11 year old. The class was well taught, had Minions so he paid attention, and then they had range time. Really a great value for getting him on the right path with gun safety. I am sold on this place — I wish I could take the CCW classes from them but they go back to back days and Sunday is out for me. Regardless, I am able to get in and out quickly and I expect they will see my face in their place weekly.

I visit the range at least once a week. Very nice ranges — the ventilation system is as good as it gets. You can’t appreciate how nice the air quality is unless you’ve visited other ranges. The downside to that is now I’m spoiled. I’ve attended a number of classes with Mike and Susan and both the classes and instructors are fantastic. The Ultimate Handgunner series was a completely new experience for me and Mike really opened my eyes to the challenges of firing from multiple positions, often while moving. There is only so long one can shoot from a bench without getting bored and the classes provide an opportunity to work on new skills that you can’t do otherwise. I hope additional classes are created that provide an opportunity to hone the skills introduced in The Ultimate Handgunner. Last but not least, what sets On Target head and shoulders above other ranges is the staff. I’ve visited other area ranges where I didn’t exactly feel welcome. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable, and generous with their time — even willing to help outside of classes. I feel good about spending my hard-earned money here.

We have been to a few ranges in the Chicagoland area. This one is superior by far. Electric range finder, 2 separate ranges, clean area with welcoming and friendly staff. We will definitely be coming back.

Just had a great time here with my wife! the range is very clean and comfortable, with nice staff to help you out. the lanes are nice, with good lighting, and distance setting for your targets. We were here on a Monday witch is free gun rental day, so i chose between a large selection of top of the line guns. i ill be coming back here very soon.
