I have been pleased every time I’ve gone in — mainly due to the owner. She knows her facts backwards and forwards. You won’t be sold things you don’t need and if you ask, she’ll give you her opinion regarding which brand/supplement/etc. is the best choice and why. I’ve lived in numerous large cities in the US and do not find her prices to be high — at all. The clearance shelf usually has a too good to pass by deal or two. I also don’t think her inventory is small — the store is not huge but each item seems to have been hand selected as far as best choices which I would rather have versus a shelf with 10 options of each item.

Nice selection of health foods. We have a similar store in the small town where I live. Prices are the same, spot on with other same sized stores. Glad to have a place to pick up a healthy snack close to where I stay when visiting Crown Point.

After reading one review I was a bit worried about this place. I decided to suck it up and give it a go. It was a lot smaller than I was expecting and a little more expensive than most places. But they have many hard to find vegan and organic items. Let’s be honest the Midwest outside of Chicago isn’t really known for its vegan options. For me this place is pretty great.

I read the other rating on here before going in to this store. I thought perhaps it was a bad day for the lady or a poor employee who had been fired by now. Nope! The lady in the store was so rude, I couldn’t bring myself to spend a dime in that store… you probably couldn’t pay me to. When I first walked in, I was in the store alone but within a few minutes a woman walked out of the back. I cheerfully said«hello» to her to which I received a grunt. After browsing the store, I walked up to the counter where she was and asked what the hours were. She said they close at 6. I asked when they open and she just stared at me. This was a Friday evening and I asked«for example, what time do you open tomorrow?» She again stared at me and then, without saying a single word to me, bent down, grabbed a business card and handed it to me! I have NEVER been treated that way in a store before.

This place was recommended to me by two friends and I don’t know why… I was excited to find a natural foods store since I recently moved from the Chicago area where Whole Foods is everywhere. The store front was modest, but I was glad to see some bulk bins and some familiar products. The problem with this place is the staff. The woman working barely greeted us. I was checking out the cat food and asked if they carried Solid Gold brand and she practically rolled her eyes at me shaking her head no. I had picked up a sample bag of the brand they do carry to take home and see if my cats liked it with the intention of buying from this store if they did. But, I wanted to make sure the samples were free. When I asked if they were she said, «yes, but the other thing she’s carrying ISN’T!» She was referring to my 3 year old daughter who had picked up a bottle of liquid vitamins implying that we were going to leave the store with them unpaid. I told her that we weren’t walking out at the moment. When I asked her where they belonged she barked the directions to the discount table to me. I have never encountered anyone so rude in this industry. I worked at a natural foods store in Indy and I’ve been to many in the Chicago area. I will never shop at this store and I will definitely pass on my experience to others who have the intention of shopping here! No one should be treated this way when they’re planning to spend money at a store! What a huge disappointment. I would have liked to support a local business, but I will buy the items I can’t get at Baum’s on my trips back to IL when I visit my sister.
