I really wish the stock yards was what it used to be but it has gotten increasingly depressing over the years. it is definitely the place to go for produce in the summer. I’ve been going here my whole life and have found some pretty incredible treasures. I have also sold things here and it is hard as a vendor as people in croswell haggle the crap out of everything. it used to be much bigger, but the produce and plants are worth the trip.

Perfect holiday weather combined with a locally, well-known, big sales event makes for a traffic-snarling, crowd-fighting, line-waiting happy-fun time. The small town of Croswell, population 2,467 as of the 2000 census,(I love the fact that someone has removed the«C» from the welcome sign!) has never been able to handle the influx of visitors for the three big holiday sales of the year; Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. I know it is a catch 22 situation though: it wouldn’t be a small town if it could handle the surge in traffic. I did noticed that the local police showed up some time after we sat in traffic to finally assist in directing traffic. Positives: –Huge event with a wide variety of stuff to mill through. –Large selection of flowers, plants and produce. –A haggler’s dream come true. –Plenty of garage sales and a cool swinging footbridge nearby(45 Maple St.) –The people watching. Negatives: –Inadequate amount of porta potties that have inadequate amounts of TP for the ladies(Bring out a handful after your visit, fellas, and be an instant hero!) –No public water fountains –The creepy vendor that keeps inquiring about the sugared almonds you bought until you begrudgingly offer him some and he sticks his hand, that has been God knows where, in your bag to fish some out. –Inhumanely caged farm animals on display. –The people watching.(I am conflicted.)
