This weaving room has people sitting at the looms weaving items that they sell in the adjoining room. They use the old techniques and you can observe them and ask questions. It’s a marvelous idea, and they use the proceeds to support the worthy Crossnore School. I came two years ago, and bought many beautiful wool items such as shawls and ponchos and tunics and table mats. I was so excited about returning to buy more this year. However, they had changed to producing rayon fabrics almost exclusively. I was so disappointed! It is so inconsistent to have all the labor intensive products made of an unnatural fabric that looks less expensive. I guess the cheaper thread is the reason, but I think people are willing to pay more for quality. After all, that’s why they come all this way to buy something from an actual weaver.
