My boyfriend and I decided to drive up to Cripple Creek for the Ice Festival, which was nothing special, and for our Valentines Day dinner. Walking through downtown, there were few restaurants to begin with. We came across Maggie’s and decided to give it a try. We waited 15 minutes before being acknowledged by a host to be put on the waiting list. He assured us that it wouldn’t be more than 10 minutes. 30 minutes later, we were still left waiting staring at the dining room full of empty tables. After finally being seated, it took approximately five minutes for the waitress to come by and take our drink order. We waited another 15 minutes for her to come by and take our order and another 20 to receive said food. The food was overpriced and nothing special. I could’ve made the same meal at home for the fraction of the cost. Overall, our experience at Maggie’s was nothing short of disappointing with tasteless food and an inattentive staff. I would encourage avoiding this place if you can.

«The best restaurant in Cripple Creek.» I wouldn’t know, because we walked out after twenty minutes of waiting to order. We weren’t seated for ten minutes, even though servers noticed us. They didn’t acknowledge our presence, in that way that says«this isn’t my job, so I don’t care.» After we were finally seated, we decided and had our menus closed for another 10 – 15 minutes. Our waitress walked by twice, noticing the closed menus, but didn’t care. I didn’t want to find out how long it would take to get our food, or the check. Not worth it.

This is a little golden nugget in Cripple Creek. The restaurant is named for the ghost that haunts the building. I guess it doesn’t help that the site was the mortuary in the late 1800’s. Don’t let all that scare you off. The food and service is good. Although it is in a casino you don’t hear the noise of the slots. I know I will go back and will recommend it to others.

Based on a local’s recommendation, I visited Maggie’s for lunch when in Cripple Creek. I ordered the fried shrimp plate, which came with the standard fries and slaw. The fries and slaw were passable, nothing special. I was really interested in the shrimp. They looked great, but were a huge disappointment. Mostly breading and though there was something inside that was probably a shrimp, who knows? There was no shrimp taste, just a blob of something. If you can’t do something well, why bother?
