Stopped in to get a bite. Food is always good, our server was fantastic! She was great when my boyfriend spilled his pop. We all had a good laugh and being kind about him being a big clutz. Great casual place to have good food.

Food is comfort food. Very good comfort food. We love the chicken dumpling soup, cheese curds, pot roast, chicken & mashed potatoes, meatloaf. It’s what we come here for. Nice Sunday– Thursday specials, too.

Everything I’ve ever eaten here was good. It’s a good place to take the family for dinner or stop off at lunchtime.

You get exactly what you expect from the place. Decent food at a decent price. Service was marginal, it was quite busy on Friday night so a couple of extra hands to fill water, help clear dishes, etc. would have been helpful. Food came out quite fast, which makes you wonder how much is ‘home-cooked’.

If as a child you ever vacationed in the Wisconsin Northwoods, you will remember eating at supper clubs or old shanty restaurants, Northwoods will take you back in time to your youth. The old shanty feel is alive and well here. Also the food should take you back to the good ol days. Try the Chicken Minocqua or the Lumberjack Steak sandwich, the Pot Roast sandwich is really good too. And if you get fries, get the waffle fries and a side of Northwoods sauce to dip in, JUSTTRUSTME. If you get a meal the Garlic Chicken is amazing and the Watersmeet loaf is too. Get the mashed potatoes with the brown gravy. Just trust me again, have I ever steered you wrong? And NEVER, EVER pass up the fried walleye. Dont forget to try the garlic chive dressing on your salad, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I’m a big dude with a healthy appetite and I’ve never gone away hungry.

We stopped on our way back from Indiana, and a friend recommended the Northwoods, so we figured we would stop for dinner. What a pleasant surprise, our server Sandy M is related to the owners, and she was great, the food was great, all the people there were really nice. We come back close to there quite a bit, now we have a great place to stop.

I came to Northwoods with a buddy for lunch. We just wanted to grab a couple burgers and beers. Diane, our server, was great. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The food was good and the beer was reasonably priced. Will be back with the family to try some specials.

One of my favorite local restaurants! The chicken dumpling bread bowl is always a favorite. Salads are also full of flavor and huge portions. Sandwiches and pastas are good. No matter what I order, the food is always great. Service has always been quick for me no matter what time of day. Atmosphere is cozy.

I’ve been eating here for years. Great food! My favorites-Bread and spread, Perch dinner, and I don’t know what they put in the ranch dressing, but it is the best I’ve ever had. Get a side salad.

You can’t beat a wholesome Northwoods dinner. Bring the whole family. They’ve got a train that rides around, a little arcade room, and the décor makes you feel like you’re in a hunting lodge. Love this place! You gotta have the fish. All their fish plates are good.

I go to Northwoods with my whole family and we all love it! One of the best things is the atmosphere! The food is great and I just like going here for lunch! It has a lot of stuff for everyone to enjoy! I definitely recommend!

Good food. Cheap Beer. Excellent service. It’s like being in a Northwoods bar/supper club. Try the perch!

We’ve eaten here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. I just wish there was a Northwoods in the northern or western suburbs. We visit this one when we are in Park Forest to see my mom. Today I had a shrimp wrap and cream of brocolli soup. Excellent! The shrimp was lightly breaded and crispy. So big I brought more then half home. My husband had the Northernaire. A sort of French Dip and loved it. He also had the chicken & dumpling soup. I had a taste and it was wonderful. My daughter had the pulled pork with a cottage corn bread that is to die for! We will absolutely be back. The service was excellent. Sorry I didn’t get her name. She’s been our waitress in the past also and bends over backwards to make sure our visit a pleasure.

Kind of pricey for what they serve. The food is edible but nothing to rave about. The atmosphere is nice, but the service can be slow.

I’ve never had a full meal here, mostly I end up here for«coaches meetings» after volleyball practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the South Suburban Sports Center down the road. I’ll tell you what I love about this place though, some of the best freakin’ appetizers in the known universe. If you consider a deep-fat fryer a must in any respectable establishment, this is the place for you. The«Bobbers»(boneless chicken, fried, and smothered in a sweet and slightly spicy sauce) are absolutely addictive, and the«Cheese Curds»(fried cheese balls, about the size of popcorn shrimp) are the best fried-cheese style appetizer I’ve ever had… and trust me, I’ve had many. I’ve only ever been in the bar area of the restaurant, but even there, the service dished out by Dave(a.k.a. Monty, Blue, Ugly, etc) is quick and friendly. Maybe someday I’ll actually come here for dinner rather than a couple of appetizers and beers at 10:00 on a Tuesday night… but since I have no reason to ever be in Crete aside from volleyball practice, I don’t think that will happen.

I am writing this for my whole family. We are all in agreement that this once 4-star restaurant is now a 1-star restaurant and we will not be back. The manager told us that they have changed the menu, the potato pancakes are gone, the spaghetti is gone, the tackle boxes for the kids are gone, the potato encrusted fish is gone, just to name a few. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone way down. Their signature meat loaf was once a family favorite and is now inedible. We do want to say that the waitstaff has always been exemplary, remembering our names and our children’s names as well as our favorites. So sorry to be saying good-bye but there are enough restaurants out there that we go to that I am sure we can find another.

Unfortunately, the only things my family and I liked from this establishment have been removed from the menu as of a 1-1-2010 revamping of the menu, including the spaghetti, thus eliminating my husband’s weekly highlight«AYCE spaghetti night.» I will miss the wait staff as they are always genuinely sweet and bend over backwards for their patrons. I list this as not wheelchair accessible due to the closeness of the tables, it is nearly impossible to make it through with a baby carrier.

Went here for fathers day yesterday. The menu’s diverse enough that the 8 people in attendance could all find something they’d like. I’ve been here a few times. Food is fine. Home cooked type stuff. Pot Roast, Fish n Chips, Chicken Fried Steak, Meatloaf, etc. Nothing here is bad, but I’ve had better. The portions are huge so you definitely get some bang for your buck. Which is good, because this place is so freaking far, you’re gonna spend some coin on the gas to get there. If your ever in the area and are starving — fill up here. You’ll be meat and carb laden. But as we all know — you’ll never be out here, so just take my word for it. It’s a good value but nothing to write home about. Due to this extra long journey for lunch, I will never again ask what my dad wants for fathers day. I’m getting him a tie PERIOD.
