There wasn’t much in bloom during my late August visit, still a few tranquil hours strolling along forested paths is a great way to unwind and enjoy a park like setting. Tours are self guided. Take as much(or as little) time as you need in the various sections of the gardens. Bring a book, find a bench and lose a few hours. Even local trains running nearby don’t ruin the tranquility. The staff was exceptionally friendly and passionate about their gardens. Not the biggest or the best, but a little treasure in Louisville.

As beautiful as this place is… do not bring your kids! Amidst all its beauty we found ourselves surrounded by pretentious elderly folks who did not appreciate our children’s energy. Other than walking at an appropriate pace, there is nothing for young ones to do.

As Mac B. says, this beautiful botanical garden contains some amazing plant specimens that should expand the mind and capture the fancy of plant geeks and gardening enthusiasts alike. Highlights for me included patches of clumping bamboo, a pomegranate shrub(!), a towering banana plant(Musa basjoo??) and a healthy looking pineapple lily(Eucomis comosa). Keep an eye out for splashing frogs in a petite pond. They’re adorable. Kudos to the plant collectors curating this garden. Loved the fact that it was so peaceful when we visited on a Thursday afternoon, but hope that more Louisville-area residents and travelers alike will patronize this garden to give it the support it so richly deserves.

With the weather being in the mid-70’s we opted to finally check out Yew Dell Botanical Gardens and I am thrilled that we did! In all seriousness I likely wouldn’t have enjoyed myself walking around had the weather been in the 90’s and up, nor would it be good if it was freezing. I believe that this well cared for and loved establishment is best seen when you can really walk around and not be concerned with the elements and just enjoy what it has to offer. All the shrubs, plants, trees and flowers are labeled… I love that! There are fun art pieces around(perhaps this is seasonally) for purchase and they add a nice flavor to each corner you turn. They have a scavenger hunt to take along while you indulge in the sights as well. It took us about an hour to take in all it goodies.

Looking for a quiet spot for a picnic in a cute setting? Yew Dell is the place to go. I’ve been to much larger botanical gardens but for it’s size Yew Dell ranks among the best. Don’t let the size of this place fool you. The diversity is incredible and would make most garden enthusiast salivate. Although you could walk through the gardens within a half an hour or so, if you took your time it is a great place to enjoy for hours. There are small trails to walk through but we didn’t take the trails. We intend on taking the trails during our next visit. The density of plant life is well displayed and the scenery is quaint and peaceful. This is a great place to spend an afternoon soaking in the beauty. Also, if you’re into photography and/or enjoy shooting plant life this it’s a great place to practice the craft.

I have been wanting to check this place out for a while. I am a big outdoors person who enjoys gardening. The fee is only $ 7.00, but is well worth it. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous. Its a great place for a picnic with your family.

This places is absolutely beautiful. It’s not too big so you’ll likely walk around a few times. It’s incredibly peaceful. I sat on a bench with my 7 month old for 30 minutes while she slept and not a single person walked by. The architecture is just as beautiful as the plants. The gift shop has numerous fun things. The bathrooms were incredibly clean. I didn’t see anywhere to purchase drinks. So, bring something with you when the weather is really hot.

Oh, what a little slice of heaven in the middle of suburbia! I know that sounded cheesy, but you will agree with me once you set foot in Yew Dell Gardens. When I visit a botanical garden, I’m usually more drawn to the flora. But Yew Dell is different, both the flora and architecture are incredible. Yew Dell combines the undeniable«cuteness» of period architecture with modern, minimalistic buildings. At the entrance, a red barn encloses the visitor center. Once you enter the gardens, The Castle awaits your discovery. I have no words but to say: «super cute!» Again, you’ll see once you see it. It is a bit shorter than you think a castle should be; hubby named it «Bilbo Baggins’ Castle». Next, there is the modern barn and pavilion. Fresh, new, country, yet modern. I never thought I would say this, but this barn would be great for a wedding! And it does not have to be country themed! The secret garden and the holly archway make for a perfect setting for an outdoor wedding. And don’t forget to check out the main house, log cabin, stone house…, etc. You will not want to leave this little slice of heaven.
