Waited :25 minutes for a menu. Waitress was unfriendly and totally weeded. The bartender just stood at the bar and watched as she was buried. The kitchen guy was just hammering his order up bell in the back. Sometimes the food is really good here, like 60% of the time. It’s like culinary roulette. The topper was the .50 up charge for a side of mayo. Won’t be back here anytime soon and that is sad because I live in CB. Bad margarita too.

Santa Fe prices, but not Santa Fe quality food. I ordered the hot, hatch green chile cheese burger. Green chiles were mild & sparse. No flavor to the burger what so ever. Epic Fail on the burger. My son had the chicken chimichanga. Greasy and over cooked. Fail. Good service, and good cold tap beer. Two stars, and that’s only for service & beer.

We were in the mood for mexican and made the short drive from mount crested butte. Our dinner was amazing. Coming from DC it is such a treat to be able to have legit mexican food. The enchiladas were delicious and we enjoyed the queso too. Seems like a good drink selection but we are currently on the wagon.

We are locals with 2 kids that frequent often. Food is awesome, great variety and the service is stellar. But best of all, they love kids. They’ve got a great kids menu and are so kind and accepting. Kids can play outside while you watch them and drink beers inside. Home cooking, great drink options and personal service. We love Ruben’s!!!

Chimi was very good as were the margs. Service and hospitality was top notch. Came in as a big group 30 min before closing. Totally recommend as a friendly place to hang out and enjoy good food.

I love the food at Rubin’s and never miss stopping in when I’m in the Crested Butte area. The enchiladas are my favorite, although everything I’ve had has been great. The margaritas are good enough to plan ahead on who is driving, as you’ll want another. The owner is very friendly, a native of New Mexico and treats his staff well, contributing to low-turnover and a more consistent product. Family-friendly too; don’t miss this spot on your way to, or from, CB. It is worth the two mile detour!

Friendly staff. Good New Mexican food and great for a family and kids. Large selection of top shelf tequilas. Highly recommended especially when you want to get away from crested butte crowds and visit cb south.

Ruben’s has my favorite New Mexico Mexican food dish, layered enchiladas with a fried egg on top and it was great! I went with a friend and her family to celebrate her dads birthday(70+). The waitresses danced with him after the first dance with his wife. We had a great time, the owner had a shot with the birthday boy and we all enjoyed the food and fun atmosphere. I went back a few days later and had a half order of nachos and it was huge. I cant wait to go back and have another margarita with my enchiladas and fried egg!

I’d say the place is good but not great. To start you off, they give you chips and salsa like most Mexican restaurants. The chips were way to salty and the salsa had this weird aftertaste and wasn’t good at all. The main course, thankfully, was better. I ordered the half rack of baby rack ribs. It was good but quite small and I left the place still feeling hungry.

Hit up Ruben’s again this past week. It’s one of my perennial favorites in Crested Butte. I haven’t spent much time in New Mexico, so I can’t vouch for the cuisine there and how Ruben’s compares. Let’s just call it Mexican-American, but not like Taco Bell or your other standard«Mexican» outfits. The menu includes burgers and such as well. Dinner started off with a killer margarita(mmmm. full bar.) I was served some whole, round, warm fried corn tortillas, that I had to break up to dip into the salsa. I really liked that take on the standard chips and salsa. Breaking apart the chips and eating them was very«participatory». For my main course, I had the Fajitas. Way too much food for me. I think I left half on the plates. Very tasty tho. They added jalepeno peppers to the fajitas which gave them a great level of heat. I really liked it(compared to Chi Chi’s or Chevys which is usually bland and blasé). Service was decent — of course I was by myself and sitting at the bar — nonetheless my food came in the appropriate amount of time. Ruben’s is kind of off the beaten path, in that it’s not in Crested Butte proper, but down in Crested Butte South(about a ten minute drive from town). It’s nice because it’s generally locals hanging out here and not all the tourists. It’s worth escaping town and the crowds sometimes — even in Crested Butte. Ruben’s is a good spot to hang your hat for a margarita and some Mexican fare. It’s generally not loud or gleaming from neon beer signs. Like most of CB, it just has a very casual and laid back vibe.
