If location trumps basic cleanliness, this is your place. In town and near the mountain shuttle, but urine and blood stained mattress covers, moldy and dusty bed coverings and throw pillows that clearly are never, or rarely cleaned. The master bed was at a significant slant because the bed frame was broken and rigged on the 4 legs with books, hydraulic lifts and a broken stool. The house smelled of cleaning products that were trying to mask the musty, dusty smell.(We would’ve washed the bed coverings ourselves, but they didn’t fit in the washing machine. We all slept fully clothed and kept socks on at all times.) The source of the smell was revealed when we, at the owner’s request, stripped the beds on our last morning. As we removed the sheets, the smell became more pronounced. Every single bed in the place had large stains on the mattresses, the pillows and mattress covers. It was disgusting to realize we had slept on pee stained and blood stained bedding. One in our group is a flight attendant for over 25 years, and we have several budget travelers in our group and none of us who have traveled the world to places like India and Nepal and Guatemala, have ever experienced such uncleanliness. We aren’t even stressing the fact we wore socks at all times becaiuse the carpet felt crunchy under our feet, or that we slept in our clothes. Our focus is on the bedding, the one thing upon which we draw the line. We chose the place because it was the most inexpensive rate directly in town, and we were flexible about our expectations, but basic cleanliness, especially in the bedding, is something we would never compromise. After we were sure our deposit had been returned and the check cleared, we contacted the owner who said she was the one in the house the days before we were. She said the bedspreads and pillow coverings are cleaned twice a year(disgusting when you think of all the people who come through) and she said«I wash and replace the mattress pads myself every time I am there.» I guess she didn’t this time as you can see in picture. Then she offered us a $ 150 credit the next time we stay with her for 5 days or more. After all that we experienced? We will not stay there again.
