Excellent place to watch trains. Situated right off of Front Street, it is a beautiful spacious area situated near the junction where the RJ Corman railroad and the Pittsburgh Line meet. There’s always lots and lots of trains. As an added bonus, it is walking distance from several decent restaurants and the Station Inn! Gallitzin, Cassandra, Lilly, Carney’s Crossing, and the famous Horseshoe Curve are only minutes away. Altoona Works and the railroad museum are approximately 20 minutes away. There is also a fun little caboose that children can play on whenever there’s a lull in the train traffic. The gazebo is also a nice little protective area in case it rains, and a nice place to sit when you get a bit tired. Plenty of parking nearby too. The park is open from dawn to dusk, so get there and just enjoy the rumblings right next to you. You’re literally next to all the action!
