Slowest service on earth. Took about 40 minutes to get my breakfast, and they were not that busy! Food was ok, but definetly will not be back. FYI — they do not accept credit or debit cards. Cash only. I had to go to the bank and come back to pay. There are no signs posted anywhere about this!

Excellent diner food, dirt cheap, and the warmest staff I’ve seen in this area in the 5 years I’ve lived here. My wife and our 2-year-old visited today(Saturday) around 10AM. We grabbed the last available booth and were promptly greeted and had our orders taken. Joanie, the owner, could not have been more visible, friendly or eager to make our initial visit the best it could be. $ 5.95 got me 2 eggs perfectly over easy, home fries(crisped on the outside, as they should be), an English muffin, two large sausage patties and coffee. More than enough food, all of it well-prepared(an actually toasted English muffin with plenty of butter; not diner-standard«toast» that is essentially warm bread with a sad, semi-melted chip of butter in the middle). All told, $ 22 fed us all until we were stuffed and we brought home leftovers equivilent to about 2 meals worth. Such a great value. We will absolutely return; we feel like we’ve found our local place. Finally, note it is CASHONLY. Also, for those of your particular about these kinds of details, the ketchup is Hunt’s(so bring your Heinz) and the syrup is Aunt Jemima(so bring the real thing). You get a $ 1 off your bill if you wear any Cranford(High School) Cougar clothing. I’m posting the whole menu in the photo section as well.

i know this review will shock some of you but here you have it! This place is terrible! and here is why. the coffee taste like piss water! the staff are rude when it comes to your child having issues pertaining to allergies. i was never so insulted in my life when i asked to know ingredients to one of the items on the menu. the gray haired man was super rude and not helpful! its shame because my husband loves the yogurt and fruit on the menu but because their coffee taste like vomit paired with the rudeness about helping me with ingredients i will never step foot into this place. we could have made it work and just ordered tea but because the older man was rude we are done. done done done!

I thought it was a very unconventional diner, definitely a local flavor, full of regulars, with a laid back atmosphere. Our server, which I believe was Joanie was very sweet. The food is super non fancy but tastie and cheap. I want to try the pancakes, my guilty pleasure, next time I’m there. When we couldn’t pay with a card, because it was cash only, Joanie actually said we could pay her next time. Who says that? Of course we couldn’t do that and luckily I had enough cash, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to leave a more desirable tip but we will next time ;)

Joanie serves up breakfast fit for a king, but for the common folk! Had unforgettable banana pancakes, an omelet, and home fries. Yes! unforgettable and the stuff dreams are made of!

By far our favorite place to go. We are always greeted with a super warm welcome and our kids are treated like royalty. Food is always perfect and prices are fair as well. No better place to be found in the area!

The best breakfast in Cranford! I go there once a month to meet a friend for breakfast. The food is tasty and the portions are a good size. The service is always good and you always get treated well. I’ve been to the other diners in town and I wonder how they stay open. Joanie’s is a local place and you feel good supporting the small business. Never had a bad experience there.

Great neighborhood café. Get your breakfast fix with a warm welcome from Joanie. You won’t find anything too crazy here so expect the standard breakfast/lunch café fare, Even if its your first time, Joanie and staff will make you feel like you’ve been going there for years.

Agree with previous rating. The charm of this breakfast and luncheonette is the owner and workers who make everyone feel at home there. The food is dependable, good, luncheonette type food, for example: great sandwiches, home-made soup, burgers, pancakes and eggs. Daily specials are always a nice surprise: chili, corned beef & cabbage, etc. It’s like having lunch at your friend’s home. Prices are very reasonable and you always leave smiling.

Great atmosphere, great owner, and really great food! Joanie’s is a local diner that really engulfs the charm of Cranford, NJ. Sunday Morning’s Joanie hosts a bingo game right in the diner, you really can’t beat that: prize? Free meal! Rather amazing. The grumpiness and rude attitude given at «The Cranford Family Diner» is the absolute opposite of what you will get at Joanies. Prepare for your coffee cup to always be filled and the management to always be friendly. The team of Joanie & George are a great addition to Downtown Cranford! Two people who truly love life and their jobs is a refreshing combination.
