Blue Rooster was one of my absolute favorite places to go for a lovely breakfast, but when I went last weekend, it was closed, packed up, and the building was for sale. Does anyone know of they moved anywhere close by, or if they closed for good? I don’t know why they would close, they were always packed! Hopefully they aren’t gone forever, I’m longing for their scones and clotted cream already!

Stopped on a road trip to the outer banks. Def didn’t want to do a Burger King breakfast or some random diner. Saw the Unilocal reviews and that this place was literally 10 minutes out of our way so gave it a shot. At 9 am we were the only people there but by the time we left it was at like half full. It’s small but cute and on a quaint Main Street. When we first walked in I was immediately drawn to the fresh and delicious smelling home made pastries. I got the bacon and cheddar omelette which was delicious. It came with toast, potatoes or fruit and of course I opted for the potatoes. It came as a hash with thyme and other spice and pressed into a patty… Delicious!!! Since I didn’t get the bread, I opted for a crossaint. Even though I questioned $ 3 it was the best decision of the day, wow crunchy outside and super soft inside, obviously out of the oven like 5 minutes before we arrived. Wife’s French toast had 2 different types of bread and was more than I could even help her finish. So glad we made this stop!!!

Such a cute place to have brunch. Been going here for the past one year. We love to come here before 11 pm, which usually there is no wait required. Loved the crab cake benedict, irish breakfast and fresh berry waffle. They serve good coffee and its also BYOB. Next time my boy friend and I are planning to bring orange juice and sparking wine to make our own mimosa! The dessert they offer is also delicious! Don’t forget to take out some on your way out.

Had the best breakfast this morning. Ordered the full Irish Breakfast and a Walnut Apricot scone. The food was for real. Fresh, tasty, authentic. My wife had eggs florentine, also excellent. Definitely recommend. Service was excellent but we were there during the week, because weekends there is a crowd. Not a place to go everyday. Kind of pricey breakfast for two. With generous 20 percent tip, $ 50. However, I don’t mind that every once in a while for an excellent breakfast. This one was well worth it, and memorable. Definitely will return.

I’ll preface the review by saying that the place is adorable in downtown Cranbury and based off what I experienced, I’ll go back again to see if I can up the rating(or not). I met 2 girlfriends for brunch last week. We made reservations and were seated quickly. Our waitress was friendly enough and asked if it was our first time being there(it was for 2 of us). She explained the house favorites, yada yada yada… we ordered a basket of mini pastries, an assortment of these tiny little pastries, and each one was delicious beyond words. The coffee was very good! Now here is where I decided to knock the extra stars off my review here… I personally ordered the ‘Classic French Omelet’. It is described as «Smooth as the outside of a balloon. When cut open, the smooth skin splits open to reveal a delicate interior spilling out with golden, barely coagulated eggs.» The waitress confirmed that the eggs would be runny and if that would be OK or if I wanted it more. I liked the idea of the runny egg when I cut into it so I said it was great the way it was described! When I rec’d my Omelet there was nothing balloon-y about it and when I cut into it, nothing was runny. I advised the waitress and she looked perplexed and took it back. She said sometimes it cooks a bit more than it should on the way out from the kitchen to the table. When I got my re-order, again it looked flat and I knew nothing would spill out but the waitress asked me to cut it again in front of her and of course nothing happened. She offered to take it back a second time, but frankly my friends were done half their meal by that time, so I just declined. That said, it was light, fluffy and yummy. but it was not what was described/expected. They did not even offer to comp the meal, let alone the coffee or the $ 3 pastry basket. I think that’s a classic restaurant fail. When it was time to leave, I went to the front where there was an older gentleman manning the reservation book. Even though I was standing right in front of him he did not acknowledge me. I can only presume from the other reviews, this may be the owners husband/co-owner. Finally I said«hi, excuse me, I was looking to see if I could buy those mini pastries». He very harshly said«no, we do not sell those to go!» Then he proceeded to look through the little window that peers into the kitchen and said«besides we don’t have any left». I was going to take another dessert to go for my husband, but after his rude attitude, decided against it. My friends both ordered the crab Benedict which was very tasty. I will try this place once more for brunch and dinner just to see if they can redeem themselves. If not, Molto Bene MORE than makes up for virtually everything this little ‘gem’ lacks. Also, 3 coffee’s, a small mini pastries basket, 2 crab cake Benedict and one ill prepared french omelet later, we paid nearly $ 23 per person — a bit pricey, IMO.

This place is absolutely adorable. The décor and atmosphere is so cute. It is such a quaint little place– I am so in love. In terms of the food and service: the food was great! It’s a bit pricey in comparison to the brunch places in the area, but because of the environment, it is well worth it! We had the eggs Benedict with the fruit cup and it was so delicious!!! Will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu!

Since we discovered this little gem in Cranbury, my family and I have been there 3 times within 10 days. Everything taste great! My 4 year old son especially love their pastry basket! Everyone is super friendly and very attentive.

As many have said the scones with clotted cream and preserves are amazing. French Toast has a great custard taste. Buckwheat pancakes are great. Eggs are well prepared. Coffee is good. Croissants also good. Service is quick and professional but not overly friendly. Can be a little crowded at times.

This place is just adorable. If I lived near it, I would be here all the time. The eggs benedict were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise had the perfect amount of acidity. After I tried a bite off my date’s plate, I tried not to look at it too longingly and make the situation uncomfortable. I had the crêpe filled with tomato and asparagus which was good in its own right. I got it with a side of smoked salmon which worked well with it. My only gripe is that the entrance is awkward. You need to get past diners in a cramp space in order to get to the pastry counter and hostess.

There’s not too many brunch places in this area where you can leave the house but feel right at home. Blue Rooster Bakery and Café has such a cozy setup, located inside a converted house with old hard wood floors and the aroma of fresh baked bread. My friend and I sat by what used to be the fireplace mantle. As soon as we opened the menu, we got excited. We decided to try the following: Crab Benedict, Full Irish Breakfast, and a Brie with Chutney Sandwich. And since it was early, I also treated myself to a latte. Our waitress was friendly and service was surprisingly fast. I especially liked the sausage that came with the irish breakfast. The dish itself was very hearty and definitely fills you up. Our meal also came with homemade raspberry and blueberry jam… it was delicious and I smothered it over all the bread. The egg on the crab Benedict was cooked to perfection, one bite and the warm yolk drizzle over the bread and crab cake. While I enjoyed it, I preferred the crab to be less like a patty and more like pieces of fresh cooked crab. As for the brie sandwich, the only critique I’d say is while you can never go wrong with brie, I wished the sandwich was pressed or toasted so the brie would be melty. All in all, this is a great brunch spot!

So impressed! I loved the food and the waitress this past Sunday for brunch. The food was wonderful– especially the scones and croissants… We had a room upstairs which was great for our loud bunch– wish we were more of a refined brunch crowd but I think we would have disturbed so many people. BUT next time i go with just my husband and baby, sitting downstairs is definitely part of the experience– there was a fireplace and high ceilings and great ambiance altogether. I highly recommend their Egyptian chamomile tea, cranberries scone and crab Benedict– everything was great though honestly(apart from the buckwheat pancakes– that’s an acquired taste). The only negative was parking but the town is so cute I didn’t mind walking a bit. Make reservations on Sunday!

The Blue Rooster is a cozy, quaint, and delicious breakfast/lunch spot right on the main drag in Cranbury NJ. Drive slowly or you will miss it – the entrance is easy to overlook. Looks more like a townhouse than a restaurant. Once inside, the staff is very welcoming, and this has to be one of cleanest restaurants I have ever seen(incl the bathrooms). They also serve lunch and dinner, but I’ve only had breakfast so far. Given the high quality food and friendly service here, I’d say the prices are reasonable. My mushroom & Jarlsburg cheese omelet was delicious, and the bacon(applewood smoked) is a «must have». Coffee is quite good, and fairly strong — which I always enjoy. The décor is bright and cheerful, and again — spotless! The home made pastries are very good as well. Tables are kind of close together, so don’t expect a totally private dining experience, but overall the Blue Rooster is a winner.

The food here is super. This is my second review with a twist. The food is spectacular… However, the service has certainly gone downhill of late. Our waitress today was so incompetent that I fought with my wife about not leaving any tip at all(which we never forgo). We have a baby and coming here in the past has been a pleasure because of how a accommodating they have been. Not today. Service: slow and not frequent Latte? Never heard if it Soy milk? Total hassle Gluten free: what is that? Baby cup with lid? You are such a pain! Basically we really looked forward to brunch and we went away sad. We will try again in the future, but no campers are happy in our. campground.

This place is a true hidden gem. Came here for brunch expecting to have a good meal, but turned out to be one of the best i’ve ever had. The buttermilk waffle is absolutely lights out. Had this with a side of bacon and was completely blown away. To start, the restaurant itself is very unassuming and looks like someone’s house from the outside. Once inside, it has the feel of a old school bed and breakfast. Service is prompt and the employees couldn’t be more friendly. There are a few different rooms and each is small enough where it feels like you’re literally eating in someone’s living room. Couple this with the fact that the food is delicious and you have the perfect place to come for a relaxing and enjoyable brunch. I’ll certainly be frequenting this place for years to come or as long as I’m in the area.

This is the sort of place that makes every far and wide search for brunch worth it. It felt like one of those places in Manhattan that try to give off a quaint, small-town vibe, except it’s the real thing. I got the poached eggs, which were like eggs Benedict except with no ham. It was delightful to say the least. Their butter was light and creamy and spread like whipped heavy cream. The creamy Mexican hot chocolate went down so smoothly that I forgot there was cayenne pepper in it. The scones were really yummy with the clotted cream and jam. and butter. Oh butter. And the cheese platter was interesting but seemed a bit much to be a meal by itself. I was super excited before, during, and after the meal. And there is no doubt I’ll come back if I’m in the hood again.

I adore this place and wish it were closer to home. It’s located very close to Downtown Princeton where you can spend the day window shopping. We go every Christmas. It’s located in an old home, the floors are off, the joists are squeaky and the ambiance is wonderful. Every person on the wait staff is attentive and friendly and the décor just begs you to come in for some tea and a scone. Did I say scone? OMG they are so buttery and delicious, I always bring a few home! The tea comes in little warmers and the breakfast food… all of it is made to order and served piping hot. I think the ladies would enjoy this place more. Great option for a girls day out.

I’m always looking for unique new places with great food to take my family. And the Blue Rooster Bakery & Café delivered. If you’ve never been to Historic Cranbury, it’s like being transported to the 1700s. You almost expect George Washington to ride by on his horse. It’s an adorably quaint little village tucked just a few miles away from all the busy highways. And the Blue Rooster Café operates out of one the many beautiful old Victorian homes that line Main Street. We were a little nervous stopping in on a Friday morning with two little children who are not known for their great behavior at a restaurant — especially a quiet, quaint little café like the Blue Rooster. But after getting some pancakes, bacon, toast and Cheerios in front of them, they quickly got with the program and both were happy and well-behaved. I started with a bowl of the corn chowder, which on this freezing cold day could not have been better. Absolutely delicious. I then had their version of the BLT, which was equally awesome. My wife had the goat cheese salad and she loved it, and we both split a side of the crispy fried breakfast potato thingy, which was just OK. I also love my coffee served in a French press, and I can’t think of anywhere else in NJ where you can get it like this. I went through two of them. And my wife really enjoyed her cappuccino. I will say the place feels awfully pretentious, at least in terms of the other customers who were dining there. I could instantly sense their displeasure when we trotted in with two little kids in tow, but my kids are so damm cute, you can’t not love them. As other reviewed said, it is expensive. You are really paying through the nose for that French press. Breakfast/brunch for the four of us was over $ 80, and that’s without any mimosas or bloody Mary’s — which I would have happily paid for if they had a liquor license. But all in all, we had a great meal, in a great setting, with great service. I’m ok with paying a premium for that. We will definitely be back.

Blue Rooster is a very very nice place to grab some food – but it’s not without its flaws. Let’s focus on the bright side though, since this is unquestionably a four-star place. The food is very good. And that’s ultimately what it’s about. For breakfast, their eggs and omelets are great – and they do egg whites without a second thought. The pancakes may not have the type of fluffiness that you might expect, but the flavors are well balanced. Their scones and croissants are a-ma-zing. Their coffee is also very good – whether your’e getting a drip or a french press. They also do nice custom lattes including some tea lattes. But those drinks are going to cost you. You’re going to pay for that french press, and those lattes as well. If you consider the great ambiance and service in this place, it’s worth it. But if I was getting these drinks to go, I’d do a double take. Yes, the service is good – but you also need to measure a little patience, especially on Sunday mornings. If you want some quick food though, just walk down to Teddy’s. I’m not completely impressed with their to-go items. I picked up two packages of granola and they were definitely overcooked. I also got what I think was called«bird seed» which was a trail mix with too many nuts and not enough balance. All of this said, I really do love the Blue Rooster, and you’d be hard pressed not having a good dining experience there.
