I am sad that I was only able to give Friar Tucks 3 stars, but I’ll explain why it DIDN’T deserve 4. I am new to Rohnert Park area, my boyfriend and I just moved from the Bay Area. We are both not huge partiers or drinkers, but we wanted to experience some of the night life in Cotati and see what it was like here. Upon entering, Friar Tuck’s was actually the most fun bar i’d ever been to! People were doing Karaōke that was projected on a big screen, there were lots of young people dancing/laughing, and I could tell this was a quality place. Then I approach the counter of the bar. There were two bar tenders working and it was a fairly busy night, so I waited patiently for my first drink order. A brown haired woman eventually asked me what i’d like and I said«Kentucky Mule– it’s like a Moscow mule but with whiskey!» I could tell by the look in her eyes that this request irritated her, but still, I received my drink and the night went on. As the night proceeded, I was having so much fun. I loved the outdoor patio and the outdoor mini-bar that accompanied it. They had an area for pool where groups of friends were playing. My boyfriend and I tried a little bit of everything. We played one round of pool, I sang one karaōke song and just chatted with some of the locals. This bar is sounding awesome right? Not too shabby. Well heres the deal. When I approached the bar counter again for my 3rd Kentucky Mule, the brown haired woman said that I was cut off. I was completely baffled. I had not been rude to her, I was not slurring my words, having trouble standing or acting like a total mess. I was completely confused, so I just said«You know what? That’s fine. Whatever you think is best.» And walked away. Next thing you know, a big fat security guard was motioning to my completely sober boyfriend and I to get out. We were being kicked out. 5 people stepped in and approached the security guard to vouch for my sobriety and upstanding behavior. I was disgusted and insulted. The brown haired bar tender had pulled a low blow and reported me. I was so hurt and almost started to cry from sheer embarrassment as I was escorted out the front door. Being new to this area, it was extremely important to me to make a good first impression on the locals. That is why I purposely DIDNOT over-drink, become a chatty Cathy or try to do any dumb drunk stuff. I have never been kicked out of bar, and i’ve been much more trashed before. All in all, I am not a perfect angel, but this bar tender bitch had it out for me from the beginning. I would like nothing more than for her to be fired, and for Friar Tucks to continue being a fun local place without her absolutely moronic comments and rude approach to «hospitality»

Incredibly rude bar tender. Came here for my 21st birthday and when I showed the bar tender my ID, he rudely tossed it back at me and said«okay.cool» in the most snarky tone you can imagine. It was the first time I had ever been in a bar and I had yet to have a drink on my birthday before being shunned away by the D-bag of a bartender. I would suggest going to the bar across the street instead, much nicer people over there and I was treated like a costumer not a burden.

An absolute travesty! My beau and I walked over to FT’s for a quick drink last week while we waited for our sushi order from the spot next door. They were in the middle of their trivia night and had a full bar, but there was absolutely no waitstaff to be seen. We bellied up to the bar and sat to wait for someone to take our order. We waited. And then we waited some more. Finally after about 10 minutes, before getting up to walk out, I decided to call them. Once the phone rang three gals appeared from the back. Looking completely out of sorts. Smoke break? Coke break? Who knows, but they clearly had no interest in our empty hands at the bar. After another few minutes, one gal, who looked three sheets to the wind, finally asked what we’d like. We order two pints of Guinness, it’s an Irish pub after all, and were shocked to see these pints immediately placed before us with nearly 1⁄3 of head on the beer. Now I know this isn’t Ireland or even an average Irish pub and you can’t expect too much from any bar in a college town, but the Irish pub that can’t pour a decent pint of Guinness is no Irish pub at all. I used to patron FT’s in their previous location YEARS ago, and I remember getting a nice pint there, but all has gone to hell since then. I believe that representatives from Guinness will actually come out to a stateside Irish pub that sells their beer and train the staff to pour a proper pint, at least they used to. This might be worth these guys looking into. Until then, I’ll enjoy my pints o’Guinness elsewhere.

The food was delicious. We went there during the week so there was absolutely no wait. Service was very good. Will be going back here for sure.

So thankful was able to find a place with a patio that was dog friendly! Very good prices(2 beer for $ 10!!!) and good beer too. Had a chicken salad w/dressing. The waitress was super sweet and kind and brought us water for the dog. Would definitely go back if I was in the area.

I was only in town for a Friday night and the next day, so I wanted to enjoy a few hours of play before the work that brought me to the Sonoma area. I looked around the other places on the Cotati crawl, and my third one was Friar Tucks. It was the first place that didn’t look like a biker bar. There was some sort of glow/black light party going on that night. The drink prices weren’t too bad, but the clientele was a bit strange. I never felt unsafe, but the people(mostly a younger crowd) enjoyed themselves more differently than I’m used to. I suppose the options are limited in the area, so this place might actually be really good when compared to the competition.

Really cool place with a relaxed atmosphere. Patio in the back, place to play pool in another section of the bar. Really neat and wooded on the inside, very Irish style. This turns into a club after around 11. Food is pretty good too!

I used to really like coming to this place for the friendly atmosphere and the fairly inexpensive drinks they used to have. Also the college scene is pretty fun, and I love the karaōke. I used to love the beer pong until it became practically impossible to get in due to negligence of the staff. But tonight, when it was pretty dead for a Tuesday, the bartender acted like he was in a hurry. Anyway, it is advertised currently that well drinks are $ 3 as they have been for weeks on Tuesdays. I was charged $ 4 and when I asked he said it was an old advertisement. I told him if like to talk to he manager and he said he’s back in the office. And when I said okay, I this he should change the sign, I’d like to talk to him, he just rolled his eyes and asked if my friend needed a drink. I’ll come back here. And I hope it gets better. But I had to make a point about the false advertising on Unilocal

I bought a chicken tender basket it was $ 10 and I only got 3 tenders. The beers cheap but you can’t even give me some Fries with my $ 10 chicken tender basket, how is that a basket? If you need to go to a college dive bar to drink some sorrows away, here’s the sticky floor dive to go to, just don’t buy the chicken tenders.

The hot spot for SSU students on the Cotati Crawl is not much to look at or talk about, but it gets the job done. It’s in a central location, parking could be worse, and Thursday nights during the school year make this place pretty much the top pick out of all the bars on the Crawl. Their back patio is cool, but just a heads up, the bathrooms are port-a-potties. It’s not too expensive and it’s a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. There’s lots of room to move around(unless it’s Thursday after 11pm) and a few pool tables. If you’re new to the area, or new to the SSU bar scene, it’s a solid place to start and ease yourself into the 21+ scene. Just don’t forget to expand to places like Santa Rosa once you find your drinking mojo.

Thursdays is literally when all of us college students go to the bars and Friar’s is our main stop. The line is always long but you’ll get in after about 20 minutes. They are suuuuuper strict so don’t even try using a fake ID. $ 2 beers on Thursday and karaōke on Saturday. Personally I really like this place to socialize with friends but it is packed almost every Thursday. Don’t even bother going on Friday or Saturday though, it’s always really dead.

My fiancé stopped here for lunch yesterday for a hamburger, he just wanted a burger and beer. Okay, when was the last time you were NOT able to order a burger med rare to rare in a resturant? Here’s the deal, the owner will not allow any meat cooked med rare to rare. My question would be, if your meat is not good enough to be served rare should you be serving it at all? Than I start to think of someone dictating to me how I can have my food prepared and thought, ’ no way would I go to this place’ ! Than Tony told me they had Death& Taxes on tap… okay I am now saying to myself… D & T own tap… must be doing something right. Wednesday is also 50 € wing day, that had me going. We had to at least check this out. What would you expect happened… after we ordered the beer, we were told they just ran out of wings! I immediately pointed out, the sign outside still has it mentioned, the waitress said she was just going to change the sign. We drank our beer, left 30 minutes later, still no sign changed. Did I mention Death & Taxes on tap? That got two stars, enough said.

The reviews are pretty much spot-on. It’s a total dive. What I’ve heard about people not often taking to the bars on Friday nights(but instead on Thursday and Saturday nights) was absolutely true. The place didn’t even resemble busy until about 10PM. It got a little too loud for me after a while so I left. The garlic fries are very ‘meh’ but the beers are reasonably priced.

PROS — The most ghetto place in Cotati, which is a good thing if you’re not a total country bumpkin — Nice selection of hip-hop/rap complete w/throwbacks from jr. high! — The price is right: $ 2 shots for ladies(Fridays), $ 5 beers for all — Ladies restroom is one large room w/1 stall, mirror, etc. can bring all your friends — Can dance or just relax here — College-aged crowd CONS — Unpredictable showing, one Friday it was BUMPING, the next, DEAD — The ladies restroom has an abnormally long line

Zydeco? White bean soup with ham hocks? Beer? Yes. Yes! YES! Came here during the 2012 Cotati Accordion Festival and had a blast. The staff is friendly, prices are decent, and the wood floor is ready for dancing! There is only one women’s restroom inside but don’t worry. If you are a brave soul you can try the porto-potty on the back patio. Speaking of patios… there is one in front and one in back. Food and drink service is available in both locations. I’ll be back in 2013!

I have to admit, this place has definitely grown on me! It’s become a real go to. Usually, the fastest way to get service is to start at the bar. Then move to a table if you want to. The corned beef is awe-some! But the fish and chips, are out of this world amazing! The fish coating is so crispy. Even if you have some leftover(they serve a hefty portion so two can often share) take it home and the next day you can pop it in the oven or the toaster oven at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes. It crisps up all over again, so do the thick cut fries! They use Corona in their beer batter and it works amazingly! I do not agree with the garlic fries being the best in town though. They serve it with roasted garlic. I LOVE roasted garlic. We make it at home and put it on and in nearly everything. However, apparently I do not love roasted garlic on thick cut fries. The taste of the garlic gets drowned out by the fries themselves. I like vibrant fresh garlic for garlic fries. Don’t know where to get really good garlic fries in Sonoma County. Last place I had good ones was at Monti’s. Ah I digress. The tacos come in two ways and I order it the way without cheese but with the bomb sauce. I’m not a huge fan of the sauce but it works with the crispy fish, lettuce, and pico de gallo. It’s basically a hot sauce mixed into mayo. You can order breakfast throughout the whole day. Just ask for the breakfast menu. Like the regular menu the breakfast menu is very straightforward with things like eggs, bacon, sausage(Jimmy Dean patty), and a biscuit. I’ve seen a lot of people order the biscuits and gravy but haven’t tried it myself. They also have waffles, a breakfast burrito, and things like that. I did get the side of corned beef hash. The corned beef is homemade and very good. The hash(potato) part is mixed in and last time it looked a little greyish(the may have grated ahead of time and not kept it in water) but it still tasted very good. It comes on a small plate and is only $ 2.99. So if you want to try their corned beef order the side dish, it’s the cheaper option to try it if you’re not up for a whole sandwich. My most recent complaint? The Celtic Caesar Salad. This is NOT a Caesar salad. The dressing does not taste like Caesar. There are mushrooms and blue cheese in it. I mean, don’t get me wrong … it’s not a bad salad. It’s just decidedly NOT a Caesar. Who puts freakin’ blue cheese in a Caesar?! And yes, I spoke with the head chef about this. He took my complaint very sweetly while he smoked his cig outside and we even had a laugh before I returned inside. So it’s noted. I also gave the owner a hug, she’s a very sweet woman. I like to hit up the free pool nights(always Saturday but forget the other nights). Keep in mind, there are only 3 tables, and it seems like the feast and famine situation with them. Sometimes people are on them forever and sometimes they are empty nearly all night. And if you do want to play on a not free night, it’s only a dollar. Who can really beat that? The other awesome thing! Football Sundays! I’m in there all the time for games now and I love how when there are nine games playing at the same time(like last weekend) they play them all at once! It was neat to see people collecting in different parts of the bar closest to the tv that was playing their team’s game. At that time I noticed a lot of people ordering bloody mary’s(it was brunch time after all). They serve that with a piece of celery and some large skewered olives. I had a sip once and thought it was good. I also noted that while a man was outside smoking a cigarette when the waitress who brought out his food, moved him to another table nearby. When he came in he asked while his food was at another table. The girls were very apologetic but explained that a man who was in a wheel chair had called in a request for that table(it is the one I see most people in a wheelchair at). He was fine with that and thanked the girls. I still do tend to leave when things are amping up and I do avoid the Cotati Crawl crowd, but there is plenty of down time in the afternoons and early evenings that can still be enjoyed at a chill pace here.
