Since my last review, Dr Safarik has contacted me and assured me that my previous experience was not the norm amongst their other patients and that the incident I experienced will not happen again. So I decided to return. I’ve gone back twice since (for my other 2 children) and I’m glad to say our experiences have been great! Dr Unal is an excellent optometrist and my kids absolutely adore her. The other ladies at Newport Mesa have also provided us not only with excellent customer service but with a smile every time. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Thank you Dr Safarik, Dr Unal and to all the helpful ladies of Newport Mesa Optometry, you guys rock!

I’ve never been to an optometrist before — needless to say I was pretty nervous about going. Newport Mesa Optometry was great — they walked me through every step of a basic eye exam, let me know what they were doing and why, and were very helpful when I had to pick out some frames. I would absolutely recommend going to Newport Mesa Optometry!

First of all, when I walk in no greeting just a stare. So I say to the boy behind the counter «Hi, I’m ShiDana Booker, I’m coming in on an medical emergency» Still nothing, so my intial thought was «is he a mute?» Then he spoke and I realized he’s just rude. He then informed me that they don’t take my insurance and I have to pay out of pocket. Now this is something should have been told BEFORE having me come in. He did offer a 15% discount but that’s still high! So now I took off of work and still have this problem with my eye. I’m pissed!!! I don’t care what my previous review was. They’ll never get another dime from me.

Dr. Safarik was extremely helpful and knowledgable! The staff are efficient and friendly. It was easy to schedule an appointment. Their pre– and post-​appointment communication was great as well. They have extended hours and a huge selection of frames for men, women and children!

I love this place. great frames and the service is friendly and comprehensive. I have sensitive eyes but the care here is always gentle.

I highly recommend Dr. Safarik. The office is clean, the staff are friendly and experienced and the Doctor was very thorough in his exams and explanations of the results. I even had an emergency issue and they got me right in to see the doctor within minutes. Plus, they have really cool frames to chose from.

Being new to the area I’ve relied on Unilocal to help me find all my «go-​to guys». However, when it came to a new Optometrist, I was skeptical as my previous and only eye Dr. had been my Uncle back home. Yet, in a new place and in need of new lenses, I had to make a choice.
I relied on the Unilocal community to help with that and always sorted near me and highest rated. I was not disappointed! Dr. Safarik is so personable and kind. He was so helpful in suggesting products for my contact lenses as well as the best lenses for my eyes.
By the end of my visit, Dr. Safarik gave me a complimentary trial of contact solution and case, not just for me but one for my boyfriend too! I was really impressed by his gesture.

Dr. Safarik is a great optometrist! He treats me, my two teenage boys and my husband. We highly recommend him to friends and family.

Dr. Safarik was extremely helpful with me and the problems I had been having with my eyes. The office is very nice and as a first time patient I was welcomed and assisted with great ease. I have been going to the eye doctor since I was really little so it’s not a new thing but it can be nerve racking to go to a new place. But the staff at the office made me feel very comfortable and would definitely go back again!

UPDATE: I went in for my contact lens check up and Dr. Safarik came in to clear up some of the things I wrote in my precious post about my contact lens exam cost! He was extremely professional in his demeanor and cleared up some misunderstandings I had. He took the time to explain that the cost breakdown of my initial examination and tried to get me out as quick as possible.
Safarik was great, his staff was friendly and very informative. I am happy to say that this practice really feels like they care about their customer service and patient care!
Compared to my past experiences with optometrists, I was conditioned to think that additional costs were an extra measure for additional profit (which is bad!!) but I’m happy to say that your visit to Costa Mesa Optometry will be a very pleasant and wholesome experience. You will be warmly welcomed and taken care of.

Dr. Safarik is the kindest, most personable doctor I have ever had! He is never in a hurry when he is with you and goes above and beyond to ask how you are doing personally. He will remember where you work, notice when you have cut your hair or even lost weight. Some doctors don’t have that «personal touch». The office staff was very helpful in helping me pick out new frames. They even took pictures of me with different frames so I could text my friends for their opinion! This office is top notch and customer service is the best.

This review has been a long time coming. We were referred to Dr Safarik years ago as my husband needed new glasses. His vision is lousy and as a result he has had many experiences with optometrists that can’t get his prescription right. According to my spouse, Dr. Safarik is the best optometrist he has ever had. Considering the amount of times we’ve moved and had to change doctors, this means a lot.
A few months ago, I hit over 40 «ahem» and wanted some cool frames to go with my worsening vision. After a thorough exam, he noted that I had papilledema, a swelling of the optic nerve that is usually really hard to see and indicative of serious health probs. He recommended I see an opthomologist ASAP and gave me some notes for her about what he saw. In short, I found I have a serious condition that required immediate intervention to prevent stroke. No symptoms other than some slightly blurry vision, either! My new optho doc was so impressed she wanted his card, as did my new neurologist! So, I am stroke-​free and have cute frames to boot.
How many people can say their optometrist saved their life? Guess you can count me in. Thanks, Dr. S!

It had been over 3 years since I went to get my eyes checked. I didn’t know how my insurance worked (even after calling the insurance company) and I wasn’t sure how the eye exam would go or what I was in for since the few times I have had my eyes checked it was always a different procedure.
The staff at NMO were awesome. They were really quick about seeing me, and I love that they are technically more advanced then most doctors offices I have gone to. I was able to do the new patient paper work at home and just email it back to them. They text message you about your appointments and I love that.
Dr. Safarik, was so nice and explained everything and even answered my questions which I knew were probably elementary, but he didn’t let on that they were dumb questions. He was incredibly through, couldn’t ask for a better Dr.
Their eye glass selection was great, it took me a while to find the «perfect pair» but I love having choices. I am also getting color contacts from them, which I’ve never had before, they will walk me through the process of how to wear them, care, etc. They called and rescheduled my appointment for the contact lesson, because they wanted to make sure that I have enough time to practice putting them in and taking them out, as well as have enough time to answer all my questions. I can’t wait to go back!

Came in for my annual check up and can say its always a pleasure.
