It’s like the movie Chocolat or Willy Wonka, where’s Johnny Depp?!? Chocxo, reminds of the episode where Monica Gellar tries to create something out of Moxie, but Chocxo is safe and delicious. For some reason, I had no idea what Chocxo was & thought it was Target’s way of creating their own Starbucks… I’m silly, I know. Anyway, I was looking for a non-Starbucks location with free wi-fi & I found it here! It’s less crowded & you’re surrounded by chocolate &7 – 11(aka chips run!). I got the milk chocolate mocha & shared a box of 4 chocolate pieces with a friend(lemon, peanut butter, tiramisu, crème bruele) & we each to a small bite of each to try them. If it were mean, these little chocolates are bite size & should be able to fit one into your mouth, but sharing is caring. The barista or chocolotier allowed us to try the various cocoa(75%, 100%, 30%, milk etc). Let just say, you’ve got wine tasting, cake tasting & now chocolate tasting. A glass of milk would have been great during our tasting. Anyway, the milk chocolate mocha was warm & brought a sense of comfort to my belly. It was comforting and provided the caffeine kick I needed. I wish I saved the 4 pieces later instead of eating them with my mocha because it almost felt like I was eating too much chocolate… hahaha who am I kidding!?! You can never have too much chocolate! I wish I saved them for dessert after my dinner that night. Oh well! The coffee & chocolate shop is small, clean & have really good wifi. The staff is friendly and give great recommendations about chocolate & beverages. Definitely a must stop place on a rainy day or study break!

Lets talk about the most important part of a buisness… CUSTOMERSERVICE… I went up to order and so far so good. The person at the register was not bad. She was nice and helpful, but definately giving the bare minimun customer service. Thats fine since the chocolates and espresso was pretty good. It was the woman making the drinks who was an absolute snobby bitch. She called the drink and unfortunately I grabbed the wrong one. She looked at me and said«you grabbed the wrong drink»… okay i apologized and she rolled her eyes. I then went to gove the drink back and very loudly she says«no keep it, its not like i can give it to her now» …She completely humilliated me in front of people all because of an honest mistake… THEYLOSTTWOCUSTOMERSANDGAINEDTWOBADREVIEWS… THEDRINKSWEREGOOD, BUTTHEREAREPLENTYOFGREATPLACESWITHTHEWHOLEPACKAGEANDTHISONEDOESNOT… NEVERCOMINGBACKAGAIN!!!

Just found this place by accident and I’m so glad I discovered it! Not only do they have coffee but they have chocolate too! The spicy peanut butter and jelly truffle is perfection! Also tried the cold brew coffee and it was also outstanding. So much so that I bought a bag of beans to take home! I definitely recommend this place and the service was also amazing! 5 stars all around! Great job!

Been here a few times to try different hot chocolate beverage. Not all of them are delicious and mostly too sweet. It would be better to let the customer control how sweet they want with simple syrup. Also had cappuccino. It was horrible. As bad as how Starbucks makes it.

Tasted the chocolate samples at Farmer’s market, then followed them to Costa Mesa. People here are really down to earth. They greet everyone with a big smile. They let us sampled different chocolate flavors and not limiting on #s of samples like other places. they have a variety of selections. Handmade chocolate is the best – not too hard or sweet, comparable to Godiva. So when blended in with 2 shots of expresso, it could be an addicting drinks.

Came here because it had awesome reviews… but the service was kind of disappointing. The 2 people working there today missed the mark on common decency and good customer service… But since you come to a café for food and drinks customer service doesn’t matter… I guess.(Sarcasm) Coffee is decent, food is good, and the employees are lame.

Someone PLEASEEE pinch me. I found chocolate heaven!!! So my friend was like, «Want to get coffee?» And I was like, «Sure!» Little did I know that it would lead me to this lovely place. I had actually been wanting to try it out for quite some time, but wasn’t really quite sure what to expect. Was it a coffee shop or a chocolate factory? The name was giving me identity crisis… I arrived, and to my delight it looked just like your normal cutesy coffee shop. But with a barrel overflowing with chocolates and a display case filled with chocolatey treats! The baristas working were super super sweet and welcoming. It being my first time, they let me try the different types of ganache they had. I am a huge dark chocolate fan, and they had THREE types of dark chocolate ganache that they use to mix into drinks and make hot chocolate with. The sweetness ranged, and I decided to go with the medium sweet one which I believe was a number 72. Each chocolate they had was numbered. They also have special deals for almost every day of the week, that is posted on their Instagram. I majorly lucked out and happened to go on a day that hot chocolates were only a dollar! Dollar make you hollerrrr! I almost ordered like four cups because guys… ITWASTHATGOOD! But alas, I only ordered one. This location is pretty small, but cozy. I heard the other locations are bigger, so I would like to check them out as well. Until then, dreaming of my dark chocolate hot cocoa that was pure bliss… Xo Chocxo.

My roommate and I came here on a very windy, rainy, gloomy Sunday morning looking for a place to study. We had called first to ask if there were study spaces and my roommate had a funny conversation with the person who picked up the phone. We were pretty excited to come here after that. When I first walked in, one of the baristas knew I was looking for a place to study(probably because I was peering from outside) and directed me to a table and joked around. I already felt pretty welcomed. My roommate got a drink that I can’t quite remember but she liked it a lot and appreciated trying all the samples for chocolate to find the one she wanted(she liked the dark chocolate ganache). We studied for a while(the place has a lot of feel-good music which I appreciate!) and I finally ordered a dark chocolate frap. It comes with 2 espresso shots btw(cause I didn’t know). Anyways, they got my name wrong but I do tend to mumble my name I guess but it’s all good. I got the frap and I like it cause it wasn’t too bitter or sweet since it was dark chocolate. People came and went to the tables and this place gets poppin’. Halfway through our study session and pretty much when it was down time for the store, one of the baristas handed out small chocolates to everyone in the store. We were so excited! It was the organic peanut butter ones they have on sale near the cash register. We really appreciated the hospitality and customer service! Will be back to this place again, such a gem.

Unique type of shop! You can choose what kind of chocolate goes into your drink. I’m a huge fan of both coffee and chocolate, so this place was perfect for me. Very friendly and welcoming people at this place! The atmosphere was chill but still professional, the lovely lady behind the counter was very knowledgeable about all the chocolates and gave great suggestions. She offered us a few samples of their chocolate, some of which include their sweet ganache and their 72%. I ended up getting the black out with the 72% and my boyfriend got their mocha with the dark chocolate ganache. The black out was seriously strong, and as a big fan of strong coffee, it was a real treat. The mocha was delicious as well. We also got a box of chocolates, which included six pieces of chocolates of our choosing. We ended up liking the sea salt caramel, hazelnut, and banana foster. We will definitely come back, and with more people too.

This place is a chocoholics dream. The staff is friendly and fast. I ordered a hot chocolate with dark chocolate ganache and it was chocolatey heaven. They use real melted chocolate, rather than the syrups and artificial stuff that other more popular coffee shops use. The drink was so rich and creamy with a strong taste of cacao. They have a large selection of coffee, teas, snacks, and chocolates from all over the world. I think I’ve found my favorite local choco spot. PS. This is a great place for working or studying. The wifi password is: espresso

Cool little coffee shop(*which was affiliated with a gourmet chocolate company but has been sold to a new owner since this review). They have coffee and pastries as well as a variety of the organic dark chocolate. On my visit I got a medium-sized mocha, a brownie and a bar of chocolate(one with a high percentage of cocao from Peru). The interior is smallish with only 7 or 8 tables and a few patio tables outside the front door. Employees were very friendly and glowing with smiles. There is a single restroom which is kept very tidy. The delicious mocha had a deep, rich dark chocolate flavor and was served at a perfect temperature to start drinking immediately. The brownie was full of melted chocolate and was quite good although on the verge of its descent into dryness. The chocolate bar will be consumed at a later date although I’ve purchased one before and found it to be delicious; not too sweet and more on the«earthy» side. A great place to visit for either coffee or organic chocolate if you are in the area. 4.5 stars!

Came with two friends on a Sunday. Coffee and chocolate – can you really go wrong? The shop is bright and inviting. As soon as we entered, we saw a barista(chocolate chef?) whisking a bowl of chocolate. He asked us if it was our first time, and we said yes, and he proceeded to give us samples of either sweet or bitter chocolate that we could add to any of our drinks. According to my friends, the barista was sassing me the whole time – first when I asked for a medium(between sweet and bitter chocolate) and then when I asked for a macchiato(he assumed I wanted a Starbucks style macchiato – basically a latte?). I don’t know, I thought he was nice. The cashier was super nice and gave us samples of the chocolate bark on display. All the truffles are beautiful and I would consider getting chocolate here for someone as a gift. My two shot macchiato with chocolate was nicely proportioned. The chocolate really separated from the drink but I’m assuming it’s only natural seeing as it’s actual melted chocolate and not powder. My friends ordered an almond mocha with bitter chocolate and a latte with sweet chocolate, and raved about it.

I used a check-in for a free 12oz coffee even though I’m not really a coffee drinker– since I don’t know good coffee from bad coffee, I won’t rate it. Rating based on mostly service and a bit for the chocolate(blasphemous, I know). Service: The girl behind the counter was cold, uninterested in helping, & took no interested in my questions or in aiding me with my lack of coffee knowledge. I asked her some questions about the tour they offer at their factory in irvine and she was disinterested. I asked her a question about their coffees, like mochas vs chocolate coffee and she was really vague, like, ‘chocolate coffee has chocolate in it’. Then I said I had a check in and as a mostly rhetorical question, asked, ‘I can use it, right?’ She laughed. Like, at me, and said yeah. Chocolate: I bought a pack of milk chocolate with hazelnut bar, which was pretty tasty, but actually a bit too milky for my taste. It was smooth and creamy, but was more cream than chocolate. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense. The hazelnuts that were roasted were ok, but the caramelized hazelnuts were really good. It helped that they were mostly whole. Overall, I really went in for the chocolate and to maybe have a conversation about their company and their products, and as an afterthought, I got the drip coffee. I also got attitude like I didn’t belong and was treated as such.

Came in after reviewing looking for another good coffee shop on our way back from Orange County. This place was awesome!!!‘ We were assisted by Bret, who was very helpful and truly passionate about the cacao, and coffee they roast. He gave us a walk through and quick tasting of the chocolates they currently had. All chocolates tasted awesome. We even took some chocolate for our home brewing. Definitely coming back, and would highly recommend. A plus that they support and receive beans from co-op farmers.

Why I love Chocxo and drive 8 minutes out of my way… –great service –knowledgeable baristas –coffee addict –amazing chocolate –love me some mocha –thick –great flavor but it’s not that strong so if you’re looking for a jolt, you might have to add espresso shots.

What are my 2 favorite things in the world?! 1.) Chocolate 2.) Coffee You could imagine how stoked I was to try this place out!!! Chocolate meets coffee here and it made my day! They just opened in August of last year! The baritas are extremely nice. They let me try a few dark chocolate flavors(since that is my fave kind of chocolate) and they can add it to your drink. I really felt like I was in the movie«Chocolat» when they gave me all those samples, haha. Pick a drink, pick a chocolate, and ask if they can combine whatever you desire — most likely, they will(since he told me that, haha). It will blow your mind. This was probably the most unique Americano I ever had. Add a little dark choco in there, and it’s a done deal. Like to get work done? School work… planning…just like being on the laptop… welps you can also get that done here. Lots of outlets, the music isn’t overwhelmingly loud, and the AC is just perfection(I don’t understand how some coffee shops don’t have that). Anyways, this is such a unique place. Come check them out and come to their 1 years anniversary opening on Aug. 18th!(I was told they will have lots going on and discounts!)

Richard Foley’s Chocxo(think choc XO!) is a newish place where you can get two fixes with one stop– your coffee addiction and your chocolate addiction! They roast their coffee locally in Lake Forest and produce their chocolates locally in Irvine. Based upon OCCM Ryan’s review, I sought them out one early Sunday morning. First off, they open at 7am. Secondly, since I was a Chocxo virgin, they let me sample their ganache– OMG– it blew my socks off. With the counter girl’s helpful suggestions, I ordered a latte with ½ dark chocolate ganache and ½ caramel and made with almond milk. It’s not an understatement when I say that this is the best coffee drink I’ve had in 2015. Rich, with a hint of bitterness and a shot of sweetness, evened out by the almond milk. It was divine. You can’t miss their display case filled with lovely delectables. Although it was breakfast time, I took home some pistachio-cranberry dark chocolate bark, $ 1.50/oz. and four truffles: the spicy PB& J, the organic milk chocolate apple Jack, the organic milk chocolate Bananas Foster and the cinnamon bun truffle. The Bananas Foster was fantastic– you could really taste the banana. The cinnamon was the runner up. The truffles are $ 1.50 each. The fancy black box will cost you .50 cents extra. An incredibly wonderful way to start my Sunday with a new Costa Mesa discovery. I will be returning to Chocxo very, very soon!

One of my favorite coffee places! Such a great selection of coffee and chocolates, everything beautifully arranged, it smells so good walking in! Service is great here, I stop by every time I am in the area and am never let down, no matter what i try I love it! Super clean and well kept, nice seating, easy parking out front, you can taste the quality and care they put into their product, prefer this over big coffee chains any day and the prices are still reasonable as well!

I had no idea that ChocXO had a coffee location in Costa Mesa — which is dangerous because I’m going to have to make it a tradition to stop here whenever I’m in the area. When you first walk into the shop, you’re hit in the face with a chocolatey aroma with sweet hints of coffee floating through the air. Before you can even decide what sort of drink you want, you’re gazing at a bunch of sweet treats, cookies, pastries and more available for you to consume. It takes a lot of self control, but it’s more of a reason to come back to try everything they have. I had just finished a lunch meeting and was craving something caffeinated and something sweet. My usual at a coffee shop is an iced Americano, but since I was at a place that prides themselves on chocolate, I went with an iced mocha — something I hardly ever drink unless an opportune time presents itself. This was one of those situations. The iced mocha comes with your choice of chocolate — dark or milk. I went with the milk since dark chocolate can be a little too bitter for my liking when mixed with espresso. That’s why I always ask before I order. This concoction was perfect in almost every way — I even opted for the whipped cream with more pieces of chocolate on top. This was a super smooth drink and I had wished I had ordered a larger version as I was almost done before I hit the second stop light on my journey home. Just be warned, even the small version comes with two shots of espresso and I was still feeling the affects around 1AM. Did I regret it? Nope. If it was in front of me I’d do it all over again. The people that work there are really nice and friendly. If you have any questions about coffee, chocolate or how they make something, they are quick to answer and give suggestions. Can’t wait to come back!
