Our casino company(M C CASINOGAMING) and our beverage service company(SoCAL BARTENDER) collaborated with CHARLIEPALMER at BLOOMINGDALE’S for the last 3 years at the Newport Lexus fundraiser. It was always a pleasure to collaborate with their staff, and they were always courteous and well organized. They always arrived really early, and their workers were well-groomed and great to work with. EXCELLENT food, too. Sorry to see them go…

Five of us had supper at Charlie Palmer’s recently. We all ordered something different, and nobody liked their meal… I may have had the worst luck – it was a filet covered in some kind of onion paste. It was ghastly. I tried to scrape it off but failed. We may be the odd ones out, though: the place, especially the bar, was quite well attended. The three star rating is the average of a 2 for food and a 4 for the very successful modern interior décor.

I stopped in here for a quick snack while waiting for traffic to die down in the area. Service was pretty good. Staff is friendly. I ordered the kobe sliders and a beer to relax for a bit. They have the usual domestic and California craft beers. The sliders were really good. A little pricey. Overall, it is a nice place to get a drink and or snack if you are in the area Think hotel bar casual dining attached to a major chain store.

Happy Hour until 7pm, with happy hour priced drinks only, no discounts on food. The service is slow, but it’s convenient if you are in the area. Our party of two ordered 6 glasses of wine(HH price $ 8), steak tartare, and yellowtail tartare. Each tartare was relatively small, and between the two, I enjoyed the steak tartare better — it’s topped with a fried egg! The total bill was pretty steep at about $ 90 before tip.

This spot was way overwhelmed with our group here of 60+, but their bartender and 2 waitresses kept on humping, thru happy hour and beyond. I think they actually caught up at a few points. The acoustics can’t handle 60 people yakking tho’ and it was getting to the club level of noise, minus a good beat. I wish they had a better pinot and Malbec on the happy hour menu, but that’s about as bad as I can paint it. The sliders were great and so very tasty, just didn’t care for the pickle, somewhere some chef must always stick a pickle in my burger. blah! love the ambiance and the staff, I’ll be back

Aside from the snobby clientele that dine here, I really enjoyed the environment as I went here with a co-worker. We were in an open area but I felt like I could still privately talk to her. I think the entrance was beautifully designed and sort of gave off a nice vegas-y showy feel upon entering. However, they really make it more defined on where the true«entrance» area is as many people were coming in the back way and having to walk across the restaurant to get to the hostess station. I had the seafood gumbo, spaghetti and meatballs, and matcha ricotta beignet. I have to say, I really enjoyed the gumbo more than expected. The spaghetti and meatballs was good(can’t really go wrong with that!). The matcha beignet was sort of a let down as I didn’t really taste anything but the overpowering lemon gel that was provided as a dipping sauce. For a place in South Coast and the prices they charged, I was hoping for a more«wow» factor. Service a bit too slow that we ended up wrapping our foods to go(spent over an hour and 20 mins!) and even though I didn’t have any wine, the glasses were really dusty. Nice servers, decent food, slow service.

What happened to this place ?? Not worth the time and money period. The only good thing about this place is customer service & the atmosphere. Cocktails are horrible !!! We ordered the embassador drink was nasty !! We switched to this other cocktail which was also disgusting. Sorry, but they need to go back to their old menus and stop changing things out.

Here are the positives — plenty of drink options and the food looked good. The wait staff is terrible… It was like we were inconveniencing them by trying to order. Probably because our group wasnt dressed like a bunch of pretentious OC types. Even the manager acted like it was annoying having to help us when his servers were clearly ignoring us. So if you want to spend your time being ignored — this is the place for you!

So good! I came in for a coctail after work and got the«Hottie With A Body»… a coctail that’s apparently not on the menu but my server in the bar area, Lisa, recommended it. She didn’t disappoint!!! This martini style confection had muddled strawberries, vodka and some other delicious ingredients including apparently some sort of chili. It was awesome. I was going to just have a drink and leave, but then Lisa offered me some bread while I was finishing my drink. Oh. My. God. Their bread? Some sort of bun made with sweet potato pieces in it and another crusty artisan roll. The butter was perfectly room temperature too(one of my pet peeves is hard, cold butter) so it spread easily and I was hooked. I inhaled every bite of the bread. I was already here and still peckish, so I went for the truffle mac and cheese. As everything else here, I wasn’t disappointed. A creamy sauce, perfectly cooked noodles and a strong truffle flavor topped with a crunchy, cheesy crust, I was in heaven after a long day at work. The food is phenomenal, Lisa was very sweet and attentive, the drinks are unique and the environment is very lounge — like and enjoyable with ambient music, I will definitely be returning!

I came here last night with a coworker and thought it was great! We both ordered cocktails, which were well done and moved on to entrees since it was already getting late. I had the New York Steak with a Bearnaise sauce. My steak was beautifully seasoned and honestly didn’t need the extra sauce as every bite had flavor. This is how medium-rare should be done – great char on the outside and wonderfully pink in. My friend had the chicken and though I don’t ordinarily order chicken … I could definitely make an exception here! It had crunchy, crispy, salty skin and the meat was tender. Served on top of mushroom risotto, which my company said he thoroughly enjoyed — what’s not to like! At the end we were just too stuffed to move onto desserts, but next time I will definitely have something!

We had chicken wings, mussels & bone marrow. My fave is the chicken wings. Mussels were succulent, w great flavor, but so tiny. Love love love the lychee martini! I would rename it «Ambrosia»(food of the Gods!) haven’t found anyplace that can make a mean lychee as here! Great service! Cynthia is a fabulous waitress! Manager(Stent?) is equally awesome. Both checked in many times to ensure we were happy guests! Great ambiance. Good crowd of 30 – 40 something’s. Nobody was rowdy… definitely a plus! Will def b back!

Came recently on #LincolnDrive2Dine where you got to test drive a Lincoln and Dine at Charlie Palmer. How great was this?! Got to try both that I would normally not try. The test drive was easy, just had to give personal info and tried out the MKZ. Afterwards, we headed inside and were treated to a 3 course meal compliments of Lincoln Motors. Everyone in charge of this event was from Michigan, including the cars we test drove. I was really excited to try Chef Seakyeong Kim’s menu. I didn’t make it last time to OC Restauant Week. It’s such a good deal, you should go here when they have it. Got to try a few things on the menu, including butternut squash soup(awesome, but only slightly warm) and the steam carrot cake(hmm…candied walmuts, I think I just had this in the soup) Honestly though, my favorites were: MOLTENCHOCOLATECAKE(Warm and makes you feel at home) Candied Hazelnuts, Praline Powder, Raspberry Frangelico Gelato CRISPEDSKINMARY’S FARMCHICKEN(slightly dry at the ends but great use of all accompaniments that came with the chicken) Truffle Wild Mushroom Risotto, Spinach Purée, Young Onion, Hen Of The Woods Mushrooms, Poultry Jus PRIMEFLATIRONSTEAK(Favorite dish of the nice, slightly crusty top and cooked medium rare. Had a tough time cutting at first but melt in your mouth goodness. You can taste a little bit of the finished butter too) Caramelized Onion Balsamic Crust, Potato Gratin, Sauteed Spinach, Bordelaise Sauce We were able to get Hess Chardonnay and a meritage type California red. Not the best wines but it went well with the food. I can’t wait to come back. The food here is creative and seasoned very well. Service is superb. It can be slightly expensive but the experience is worth it. They always have these food/drink pairings as I just missed the Macallan dinner yesterday. For a great playful cuisine in a modern chic atmosphere with great service, do come here.

I had dinner here recently and walked away not particularly wowed. The best part of the night was the cocktails(and the company). They seem to be pretty generous with the booze so yeah, great for me. Everything else was pretty blah. We were in a large party and apparently we couldn’t order form the main menu and had to go by the prix fix menu. I ordered the poached prawns appetizer which was a little flavorless. The popcorn added a nice crunch but there was nothing particularly amazing about it. The filet main course was good and i don’t have any real complaints about it. It came out pretty cold but still tasted delicious. I still prefer the filet at either ruth chris or mortons but this one was actually pretty decent. Just cold. For dessert I ordered the chocolate lava cake which was a total dud. I cut into it expecting all this molten chocolate to ooze out. Instead, all i got was a very unenthusiastic lava that was not remotely interested in oozing. If this was supposed to be chocolate lava then it had cooled long ago. Lame. It was an odd experience overall because we had fun due to the company but agreed that we definitely wouldnt come back for the food. We didn’t leave thinking«I want to eat that again.»

Came here on a Friday night and sat at the bar. Got kinda packed by the time we left. The décor is fancy with dim lighting and a large multi panel TV on one wall. The drinks were made perfectly by the bartender. Nice and stiff just the way I like it. We ordered the bone marrow, kimchi risotto and brussel sprouts. All of which were very good and I definitely recommend them all. Saw a lot of people ordering the spicy seduction martini btw in case you need an idea Mos def be back here

There’s a surprise in my FOOD!!! Came here two days ago. It was my first time as my hubby brings his clients here often. Appetizer we ordered the ahi tartare, bone marrow and bacon wrapped dates. For entrée we ordered the blacken salmon salad and filet mignon with a side or Mac n cheese. Brent our server was called over because I found a fish scale in our ahi. He apologized, took my plate away and said the manager will be over shortly. I took another bite and found a SECOND fish scale!!! *smh* Our entrée was served and as we were eating the manager Aaron/Erin(not sure how he spells his name) came over. Not exactly apologetic at all. He says, «well heard there was a scale in your ahi. Well fish has scales, at least it wasn’t a bone.» Really??? You came over to waste our time to tell me something I already knew? What is the point in that? The way the manager handled the situation has left a bitter taste in our mouths. There’s no way, at this point, we would want dessert. Just grabbed the bill and got outta there. Bill came and the ahi wasn’t taken off. Already fed up, didn’t bother to argue and just paid and left. Very disappointed and hubby is no longer bringing his clients here anymore. HORRIBLE!!!

We have passed by this restaurant at Bloomingdale’s too many times, never wanted to give it a try, it always looked so empty from outside? We didn’t want to wait for a table at Anqi after our shopping, so we went to Charlie Palmer instead. A very beautiful and stylish restaurant, a vintage wine shop next door, I saw many people sitting at the bar, they have wine class each month, and cooking class from time to time, that sounds very fun! They also list the wines they are selling on their menu, it’s a good idea to take home a bottle of reserved wine after dinner! We got seated at a very comfy and semi private corner booth in main dining room, the three of us started off with two bottles of sparkling water, sister and I were so thirsty, complimentary breads were brought to the table by servers, they were so fresh and delicious with warm butter. The menu was good, many small plates and appetizer choices, the entrée selections were limited, but they all looked so good. Starters: Seafood gnocchi: lots of fresh seafood in a very delicious sauce with shellfish foam, the shrimp and salmon pieces were particularly good, sister and I loved it! Ginger soup: nice flavors, it looked so good, tasted even better, hubby loved it. Entrees: Pan seared Thai red snapper: the red curry fondue was so flavorful, amazingly delicious, the snapper was perfect, tender and light, great with the curry sauce, the mussels and veggies in it were so yummy too, I LOVED it! Crisped skin farm chicken, with truffle wild mushroom risotto: the spinach purée was so good, I dipped some of my fish in it, it tasted great! Sister loved the tender organic chicken and soft risotto. Bacon crust scallops, with crispy skin pork belly: I wish hubby didn’t order pork… Well, he loved the pork meat and cauliflower purée. Sides: Herb French fries with two dipping sauces: the fries were so yummy! Garlic sautéed spinach: I just loved the fresh spinach, so delicious! We tried French white by glasses, they were great with my fish dish. The food was so lovely, the plates looked so pretty and creative, the flavors were amazing, the taste of the food was light, but the purée and fondue sauces were so flavorful, the perfect balance for each dish! As for service, our waitress was great, she was so busy with many other dining people who were going to a concert after dinner, she asked if we were the same, very thoughtful of her, in case we needed to finish dinner at a certain time. She was super friendly and fun! Other staffs were all so polite and attentive, manager came by to make sure everything was ok, great team work, we were impressed! We got so full with the large portions of entrees, no room for desert, although the cream brûlée trio looked so tempting. Maybe sister and I had too much sparkling water too, it was so filling. The tab was $ 200ish for three people, but my sister doesn’t drink. A very relaxing early dinner for us, everything was perfect, nice wines, delicious food and great service, we really should come here more often, considering we shop at this Bloomingdale’s all the time. Ps. They have a bar and lounge area, with small plates and cocktails menu, served daily until close, the lounge opens till late daily, a nice place for a casual date night, quiet and relaxing.

FIVESTARS for the Amazing Chef, Seakyeong Kim, who rocks the food here at Charlie Palmer! WOW!!! Chef Kim was trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. He has worked at some very prestigious restaurants. His training, combined with his personal and cultural creativity results in some amazing food creations! I was invited to CP to attend a work function and to enjoy a celebration dinner. I met Chef Kim personally and was able to learn about his food training and cooking style! Not many chefs will engage in that conversation, but Chef Kim took the time to speak with me. Not only is he a creative food artist, but he is genuinely a humble and friendly professional! Three of us shared a total of 8 appetizers /main meals and I literally skipped out of this place because my palate was tickled with such great food! Appetizer #1: Market Green Salad($ 10). Amazing fresh assortment of greens, combined with cucumbers, golden rasins, sunflower seeds, Asiago cheese, and Champagne Vinagerette. I haven’t tasted a salad that was this fresh in a long time! Grade: A– Appetizer #2: Brussel Sprouts. This has to be one of the BEST brussel sprouts that I’ve ever eaten. Chef Kim uses a secret ingredient(can’t say what it is) to flavor and sweeten his brussel sprouts They are served well marinated and crisp. It’s a combination of sweet, savory, and crunchy! It works! Grade: A+ Appetizer #3: Roasted Eggplant Ravioli($ 15): Bell pepers, dried rud currants, Asiago Cheese, Pine nute, marinara, and aged balsamic vinegar. Delightful and traditional. Visually, this dish was stunning and it tasted like my Italian Grandmother’s pasta(insert grin here). Grade: A– Appetizer #4: Blackened New Caledonian Blue Prawns($ 16). A set of 4 prawns marinated and grilled to perfection. Served with Artichoke, braised beans, pancetta, & Romesco sauce. Served with heads on! This dish made me smile! Grade: A Appetizer #5: Seafood Gnocci($ 16). Home made gnocci that was chewy, yet tender. served with Shrimp, calamari, salmon, mussels, safron, edamame, Piquillo peppers, and topped with Shelfish foam. One of the best dishes of the night! Forward and innovative! Grade: A+ Appetier #6: Wagyu Tri Tip Beef Carpaccio($ 17). I’m a huge carpaccio fan, and this dish ranks at the top of my list. Delicious and beautiful. Great combination of protein and fat in the meat! Tasty! Grade: A+ Appetizer # 7: Bacon wrapped Blue Cheese stuffed dates($ 8). The traditional tapas dish that goes well with about anything you are drinking. The bacon was grilled to perfection, and the blue cheese inside had enough acidity to balance off the palate. Grade: A– Appetizer #8: Charred Edamame($ 7). Who could have thought of bringing the traditional edamame dish forward in innovation? Chef Kim! He marinates the edamame in Yuzu and Citrus salt, then grills the edamame so that it has a smokey flavor to compliment the acidity of the citrus. Amazing! Grade: A+ I liked the fact that Chef Kim came out onto the restaurant floor to introduce himself to his customers and to see how the customers were enjoying their dishes. I found him to be polite and personable, yet humbled. If there is anything wrong with your dish(which there won’t be!), he gladly accommodates the customer request! THAT is customer service! I will be sure to come here to host additional events and celebrations! The food is delicious, the Chef is personable, the restaurant is clean and classy! He is the best of the best Chefs here in Southern California! Thanks for the delicious food! Food Grade: A! Service Grade: B+(sorry, the waitress messed up several times). Worth the Money Grade: A– Overall Impression Grade: A!

I recommend the clams, tuna tartare, and sliders. I’ve pretty much tried almost everything but I’m always craving these three things when i come here. Service is great, very helpful staff. I think every time I’ve been here everyone’s dressed up and in suits but usually I come here after shopping at south coast so I’ll be in shorts and a top =X I could care less. Don’t judge me! Lol No need for reservations they will fit you right in.
