Fall shindig tonight! Come on out and enjoy free music, food(bean and ham soup), and great wine! Plus the company is amazing and wine is something to write home about! There is also a Bön fire! Be sure and bring your own lawn chairs, but other than that your set for the night!

My wife and I visited this small winery and enjoyed tasting a variety of excellent wines — don’t miss this winery which is tucked away in a beautiful location in the hills of southern Indiana just off scenic route 62 along the Ohio river(hidden on the north side of the highway). The owner greeted us and personally guided us through tasting six wines — our favorites were the«red tail hawk,» a sweet red and the«blue river blush,» a delicious and complex semi-sweet. We enjoyed the wine tasting and also enjoyed good conversation with the owner — more businesses could benefit from having an outgoing and personable customer-service oriented approach like this! The owner was very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgable about the winemaking process. We enjoyed the experience!

I visited with a friend this past Sunday for a tasting. We had a living social deal to use and it looked like we were not the only ones because they were very crowded. They were having a complimentary chocolate lovers buffet in honor of Valentines weekend which was very good. We particularly loved the chocolate dipped bacon and the chocolate dipped cherries. It took a few minutes to be set up for our tasting because of the crowd but the chocolate goodies helped to pass the time! We were told we could sample everything if we wanted but we opted to begin with the semi sweet category since neither of us prefer dry wines. I enjoyed the two blush wines we sampled but my favorite two were the bitchin berries elderberry and the apple cherry. Both were unique and very good for us sweet wine drinkers. We also got to have a glass of wine each and we got a cheese plate to share. We also got to sample a cranberry cinnamon goat cheese which I loved and even decided to bring some home. Overall we enjoyed the tasting but found several of the wines to be almost bitter or acidic and considering they were supposed to be sweet it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I would return to get more elderberry wine and probably the goat cheese!

Scout Mountain sits in a secluded part of the state that I don’t get to visit very often, but am always amazed that it’s still part of Indiana. I speak of course about the hills and woods, both of which are evident as you throw your car into low gear and say a silent prayer that you make it up the one lane hill before another car comes along. Once you make it though, you’re rewarded. This reviewer also points out that Scout Mountain is really on a hill, but I guess Scout Hill just didn’t sound as appealing. The friendly folks behind the counter made us feel at home right away, pour wine and laughing and joking with us as we tried the different selections. Everyone was very knowledgeable about the grapes, the notes that you taste and even gave food pairing recommendations for each one. My favorite pairing? The one that goes with a straw. Scout Mountain is part of the Hoosier Wine Trail and is located in the Eastern Time Zone. Stop by and give them a try as you wind your way across Southern Indiana.

When I visit wineries, I try to keep an open mind. My in-laws live in Corydon and the wineries in their area may not always have the level of, well, sophistication, that I’ve come to expect in Indy. Scout Mountain was one of those wineries. You have to drive up a very narrow, very steep gravel driveway to reach the tasting room. The wine was mostly too sweet for my tastes, but the in-laws were happy.(My husband and I tend to prefer drier wines.) There are different wineries for different tastes and Scout Mountain did the trick. I found nothing technically wrong with their wines … it was more like going to a Chinese restaurant when I really wanted pizza. I enjoyed what I tasted and we bought a bottle, because they didn’t charge for the tasting. Just know, if you go, they tend to the sweet and that is perfectly fine for some people.

Struggling winery and it shows. From the grounds to the wine production to the overpriced cheese trays, etc. Stopped here on the way to Leavenworth Inn. The wine tasting was free and no real limit posted to how many you can try. Staff was pleasant but rushed and preoccupied. Wines here are from stainless except the higher alcohol content one from the bourbon barrel(buzzard roost red) it’s their only saving grace in regard to flavor. The cheese tray…$ 8…for approximately 12 ritz crackers, an equal amount of pretzels and a handful of cheddar cubes. Complete ripoff. Had one glass of Traminette and we left.

I saw the sign for Scout Mountain on highway 64 East. I decided to give it a try with my boyfriend. We pulled up to the winery which was on a beautiful country lane. However the winery ended up looking more like a tack shop than an actual winery. At this point I was not disheartened. There was an older gentleman working outside and some dogs roaming the property. It was welcoming and I thought it definitely had promise. Unfortunately, it didn’t. We walked inside and the employee behind the counter was indifferent and once we asked about some wine we realized she really didn’t know anything about any of the wines. After trying a few of their wines each and listening to her stories about drinking too much and getting sick we decided it was time to leave. The wines were not very good and tasted more like juice. Even their«dry» wines were sweeter than most Rieslings I’ve had. I would save yourself the trip and instead go to Overlook Restaurant on the same exit.

There was a deal on for a wine tasting out here, so I bought it. I’m trying to uncover some great local wine, so I thought it’d be a great place to go. It isn’t far from home, and I was really excited about the free glass of wine after the tasting. I was shocked when we pulled up. The entry is essentially an old gravel driveway off the road, and the winery itself isn’t much more than a barn with dogs everywhere. I should have visited their website before going, but I didn’t think anything of it. However, when we walked in there were several employees getting things set up for the day’s activities. Because it was the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, they were having a chocolate event. The employees were incredibly friendly and helpful. They seemed to know a lot about the wine, and they were generally interested in making sure we had an enjoyable experience. Had I visited their website, I may not have made the trip out, but I am sure glad I went. The two bottles of wine I bought have been enjoyed. It was an interesting experience, and I am so glad I went.
